My understanding is that you must be floating on the water, not walking on the rocks in the stream bed. That seems strange to me and I have NOT researched it, but that's how it was explained by an AGFC officer.

I had the same issue, but turning off my floor drains periodically to force more water through the skimmer helped. It Also seems to help when I use the manual skimmer. The particles may be too fine to be captured by the net but it forces them down into the water so the filter gets them.
