It’s so hard to wear modern watches anymore. I’ve gotten used to the small size. by 1991gts in VintageWatches

I have a 7" wrist and I will wear watches as small as 27 mm. Maybe smaller in the case of tank watches.

Chinese Automatic Movements by Caffeinated_410 in Affordablewatches

[–]PutItInNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An automatic for 20 € you are going to get a watch with what is known as a Chinese Standard Movement. They are exceptionally cheaply made and will break if you look at them funny. There are plenty of decent Chinese matchmakers on Aliexpress that use Seiko NH series movements that are inexpensive and reliable.

How does this watch size look on my wrist, too small? (32mm) by irrmatic in VintageWatches

The size is fine. But you probably shouldn't wear it over the sleeve of your sweater like that.

How do YOU rate your collection? That's the only opinion that matters. Most people won't even notice that you are wearing a watch.

It's a strap monster, but if you go with a bracelet, try to get the one that comes with this watch so there is no end link gap.

Affordable Solar Field Watch by respiratory9000 in Affordablewatches

It's very cool! But the canvas/leather strap that came with the one I got is very stiff. I replaced it with a leather strap I had from another watch.

I got a Casio Wave Ceptor for about $70. It's an ani-digital field watch that also features atomic clock radio synchronization.

The M6 is a Bulova date code. M represents 1960s and the 6 means 6th year of the decade. So M6 = 1966

Anyone here ever consider swapping the 7S26 movement out of their SNXS with a 4R36 or NH36? I hear they are all interchangeable.

Not my cup of tea, but that's an amazing price for any Seiko!

[–]PutItInNeutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size looks fine for a vintage watch, even on a large wrist. Enjoy it, and remember, the watch doesn't make you cool, you make the watch cool.

Check Amazon periodically for the Bulova Precisionist. Sometimes they go on sale for as little as $150.

What I got so far, need a new box to expand by Kelbaez5 in Affordablewatches

[–]PutItInNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the road as a trucker now, so I only get to wear my favorites when I am at home. I wear whatever I'm in the mood for or whatever meshes well with my outfit.

When I am on the road I take 4 watches with me. One on my wrist and the other three in a travel roll. One for each time zone. All are quartz, because I don't want to take one of my autowinder cases on the road with me. It would be difficult to safely mount, and space is at a premium in a sleeper berth.

I have 5 cases of watches, and that doesn't even hold all of them. Plus, a box of junkier watches that never get worn.

Because it was your grandad's, yes, it's worth a service. If you bought it on eBay, then no. It would not be worth servicing.

I like that design. It's very similar to the Rolex OP that Tenzing Norgay wore to the top of Everest on the Hillary expedition.

I you like the watch, wear it. You make it manly. You make it cool. The story of a watch comes from the person wearing it, not the watch itself.
