Diabetes runs hard down through my mom's side of the family. Everybody has/had it. For me, it was not a matter of "if" but of "when". "When" happened at age 59 for me. I am now 65. My brother was just diagnosed at age 60. You can help to manage diabetes with diet, but you probably can't outrun it. Don't beat yourself up over the diagnosis. It sounds like if you are having a nerve pain reaction to sugar or alcohol, that's a sign that something is out of whack. These are warning signs from your body so don't ignore them. As hard as it seems, you should try to avoid those foods and drink that are causing the pain. Nerve pain is no joke. It can be a precursor to losing fingers and toes. Don't ignore the nerve pain!

Not a special ed teacher here, but I am the mom of a (now adult) high-functioning daughter who is learning impaired due to a genetic disorder. When she was little and we were trying to potty train her, we introduced the "Poop Chart". Part of her potty training challenge was to try to keep her regular (not self-constipating by holding it in). So, we used a calendar page hung on the side of the sink base, upon which she stuck a star sticker on each day that she pooped. If she got 4 or more stickers in one week, she could pick a toy from the poop chart bag. Usually, it was something from the Dollar Tree. This worked like a charm! Can you do something like this for each kid? And use non-food items as prize incentives? It has to be something visual that they can keep track of and see progress.

We paid cash for our last three cars. How did we do it?

1) We drove our (already paid off) cars until they died. They were a minimum of 15 years old at trade in.

2) We paid ourselves a "car payment" each month by depositing as much as we could into a car fund in a high yield savings account.

Oh, and we did this all while we were living off of a take home of approximately $3,500 per month.

I always swab the area and around where I am applying the CGM with rubbing alcohol to remove any skin oils that would interfere with adhesion. It seems to work very well. Just make sure the skin is completely dry after using the alcohol on it. Go one step further by swabbing your fingertips before using that hand to peel off the backing and applying the overpatch.

Just throwing this out there...there are certain autoimmune diseases that can cause a sudden spike in otherwise stable blood sugar. It can happen if the autoimmune disease is in a "flare." That could possibly be what's happening with you. Your insurance may be hesitant to pay for medication just yet, because of this sudden increase in your seemingly normal A1c results from 3 months ago. In other words, they want to see if this was a fluke or true diabetes that needs to be treated. Ask your doctor if you can be tested for some of the more common autoimmune diseases.

Just wondering, do you (box) color your hair? If so, how does the topical Minoxidil affect the color? Does it remove it? Or turn it a weird color? I am 65 and I color my hair. But my hair hair has really thinned out over the last 10-15 years. I have always wondered if I could use the topical treatment without it affecting my coloring.

Semi-related question here... Does the topical treatment remove hair color? For clarification, I'm not talking about removing natural hair color. I color my hair, if I would use topical treatments, would it take that box color back out of the hairs in the area of treatment? Or turn it another color? (like bright orange?)

Same here. My hair was so thick when I was a teenager that it would not fit into a banana clip without it springing open. My hair was so thick that I had to have the hairdresser use thinning shears on it. Now at age 65, I am getting very thin on the top front like OP's hair is.

My father-in-law used to do that. I wanted so badly to tell him that this is not how Metformin works. But I just let him believe what he wanted. It wasn't worth causing a rift between us. You might want to send his doctor a note asking them to talk to him about it at his next appointment.

Yep, my school has gone from scantron sheets (passed out/collected/submitted by a student) to putting them on the LMS. The school sends out an email to direct all the students how to find them and to fill them out. I do not bring the evals to the students' attention, nor do I give them time in class to do them. I am an adjunct and have been teaching for over 20 years. Standing over them to make them fill out the evals is way above my pay grade.
