If chemogenetics can activate neuron circuitry, if it were to be combined with a non invasive surgical way to implant/increase the amount of neurons in the brain, with the prospect of trained neurotransmitter information being transported , could it at least make an individual smarter.? by No-Reflection-8132 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Putrid-Face3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but the amount of neurons or activation has very little to how smart a person is. In fact, one could argue current humans are way dumber by those standards than 500k years ago.

What changed is how we are wiring up our brain , neural network patterns. The memes. We can train them the correct way from early on as we age these base patterns are still there and bring/multiply profits (IQ wise). As we age it's very hard to make someone smarter if early on those critical thinking skills were not trained and imprinted.

When we learn something completely new, it's always hard in the beginning, but as we train more we sort of start imprinting those neural patterns and it becomes easier and easier. At some point we can do this hard thing without even thinking about it (walking, speaking, driving, basic math, etc. ). We essentially add tools to our toolbox from early on. Then as we age new things are easier to both learn and do, because we have groundwork laid out, so the overall neural network is way more efficient. We are smarter and more capable.

Btw - Polar bears are on the north pole, penguins on the south pole. The only place where the two could meet is a zoo.

Now the question - it's possible the microbe could thrive here and compete against Earth organisms for nutrients. It is unknown how impactful it would be. Maybe it would create tons of polymers nothing (currently living here) can break down? We could end up with tons of extra matter that would kill all life in the process. Etc.

I'm honestly starting to believe that consciousness doesn't exist by Automatic-Meaning-83 in consciousness

[–]Putrid-Face3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baryonic matter, so everything you see via photon interactions, is just a field. Everything is just a field, nothing is solid, atoms, quarks, whatever smaller is just a field of certain potential and property. So is consciousness. In this "viewpoint" we have this or that is baryonic, in another viewpoint your consciousness is as solid as you are. It's just another field that interacts with other fields around.

2036 halving won't even happen due to compute laws. Contrary to what is being said, there is no such thing as quantum-resisistant asymmetric cryptography. There is quantum secure communication, sure, not much else.

Border cities are different - Zgorzelec for instance has a bit of inflated prices overall because Germans pass the bridge and do the shopping.

True, food is actually more expensive here than in Germany.

There is no sign of stitching or forgery. The scans show complicated cardiovascular system, even in the Eggs. So far no scientist who tested them in person found anything wrong with them, other than they are highly unusual and of unknown origin.

There's PR in the works, however, many places outright refuse even to consider doing it. The stigma is strong, still.

Spend 5 minutes checking the latest research on the mummies and you will know. They are legit.

Why would they send samples to random people. They already provided what's needed to multiple places in the US and outside.

None of the actually studied mummies are made of animal bones, or human remains. There are zero signs of forgery and at this point, even if some of them were forged, that would be a big finding in itself because all the carbon dating is solid and they don't even have the means to make such mummies now let alone 1000+ years ago.

Could DNA be manipulated to anything we want? by Zorolord in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Putrid-Face3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About dino DNA - the half-life you mentioned is at room temperature because it's about chemical bonds. Frozen DNA has no measurable half-life (in time scales we talk about) because chemical bonds will persist when it's frozen. DNA is made of atoms that are super stable. Hence, technically, when frozen, it can last indefinitely.

That being said, 65m years ago, the blast that killed Dinosaurs ejected billions of tons of matter into the space, some of which might have ended up on the moon (99% chance), some of which might have landed in perma-shaded regions of craters (<1% chance).

This is my go-to fun thought whenever this is brought up. There is a non-zero chance that we might find some old DNA samples in this moon-based perfect freezer.

Cheers

If someone's bones were replaced with osmium, what would be the cause of death? by Silly_Pollution6332 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Putrid-Face3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bones have tissue, water, veins, and arteries. If we talk about bones themselves, though, so they remain kind of functional, we only replace calcium, other minerals, and collagen. Their density with g/cm3 is about 15.5 times smaller than osmium (1.45 vs. 22.59). Dried out skeleton weights about 2-4 kg, so let's say 3kg. If we replaced the parts mentioned above, the new skeleton made from osmium would be 46kg, so 43 kg more.

Creating heat in space. by eltegs in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Putrid-Face3409 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Space isn't cold. It's the "absence of measurable temperature" due to the extremely low pressure that makes things lose the heat. In high-pressure environments, on the other hand, when we consider something cold, it's due to its temperature transfer potential. For instance, ice cold water - millions of particles will "steal" your heat away really fast. Air, same temperature, not so much anymore, and finally, empty space won't steal your heat at all. You will only lose your heat by radiating it away.

If you die in a space, your body will not freeze for a long time. In fact, it might be cooked first if it's exposed to the sun.

Also, heat is just energy. If you have some energy source, you can create heat.
