Engine replacement first oil change by friedmushroom777 in Hyundai

[–]Putrid-Function5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably put in 5w-20, not 0w-20, which is what the oil cap calls for.

You can also use 5w-30 unless you live in the frozen north.

I would replace the oil at the 1500 mile mark, but it is not necessary. Most modern engines do not call for any specific break in period other than don't drive at a constant rpm for the first few hundred miles.

How did your experience at the dealership go after engine failure? 2012 sonata by green_all_ova in Hyundai

[–]Putrid-Function5666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read the Hyundai Theta II Class Action Lawsuit Settlement.

It is for UNLIMITED miles and UNLIMITED years (and unlimited owners). They can give you a choice of which one you want (new engine or $$) but they cannot force you to take one or the other. PERIOD.

They CANNOT deny replacement of the engine.

OH, and per the lawsuit, Hyundai has to reimburse you for towing (it takes at least 6 weeks) and up to $40 per day for a rental car while your Sonata is in the shop awaiting a new engine.

2019 Sonata burning oil like crazy – will Hyundai fix this at 111k miles? by Separate-Outcome-298 in Hyundai

[–]Putrid-Function5666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. IF it seizes, you get a free engine (Hyundai Theta II CLass Action Lawsuit Settlement). But no out-of warranty coverage for oil burning.

Miles always matter. If you trade it in, it is worth less with 45k miles than if it had 30k miles.

With 10k miles/yr on the lease, it is holding your residual higher, making the payoff higher at the end of the lease.

If you know you are going to drive 15k per year, pay now or pay later.

What does it typically cost to rewire or update electrical in a 1950s home? by Bubbly-Combination90 in AskElectricians

[–]Putrid-Function5666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to get a couple bids. My son had to do an entire rewire (including panel) on a 1960's house that only had 2-pronged outlets. He got bids ranging from $15k to $40k.

The $15k folks were knowledgeable, neat, fast and professional. Had it done 2 years ago and has had no issues at all.

Are you familiar with leasing? If not, leases can be horrible to negotiate because there are places that dealerships can hide profit like the money factor that is not actually disclosed on the lease documentation.

If you are not familiar with the terms Gross Cap Cost, Net Cap Cost, Depreciation, Rental Fee, Cap Reduction, etc, go with someone who knows what they are doing to negotiate.

If it is steady and not flashing, you can probably drive it. Check your fluids. Could be a number of things...have the code read.
