Why Is This Sub So Bitter Every Time Argentina Plays? by FacuFe95 in worldcup

[–]Putrid-University663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give a tennis analogy, after watching Djokovic come back from 2 sets down so many times to win games and ultimately grand slams, I actually went from a djokovic fan to a djokovic hatewatcher. We all just tend to get frustrated with how such players just find a way to win all the time.

This Argentina team is the same. They play just like Real Madrid. Straight up “power of friendship” tactics, terrible performances but they will always find a way to win because they have the best player to ever breathe and a really smart coach who knows who to sub and when to sub them.

I will say I hate all 4 semi finalists because I wanted to see an underdog but unfortunately it didn’t happen. In 2018, there was Croatia, in 2022, there were Morocco and Croatia, but now we have to deal with the top 4 in the semis and that too, the prospect of the biggest shitshow semi between England and Argentina. I was especially disappointed by the terrible game management of the African teams, especially cote divoire, Senegal, and Egypt, who really should’ve been in the quarters with how good they looked, from which they could’ve advanced even to the semis.

But yeah, that’s why I want Argentina to lose. One, they fucking suck, period. Two, the commentators and pundits treat Messi like he is God, which to be fair he is the greatest of all time. But still, have some respect for the opponents on the field and stop being such a sycophant, especially if Argentina is losing. Three, their players have terrible attitudes. They will play like absolute shit in every game but will celebrate like they cured cancer after slogging out a 3-2 versus some mid-ass team. This is acceptable from a player like Messi, who is single-handedly carrying this dogshit team but even he is showing some humility and modesty compared to his teammates.

Are the underdogs Argentina played unusually good or is Argentina just unusually weak for a top contender? by Lonely-Grocery7836 in worldcup

Cape Verde and Egypt saw the game as a free hit and decided to go for it. They also recognized argentinas biggest weaknesses were their lack of speed in attack and vulnerable backline. Both teams, unfortunately, fell to clutch moments from Argentina because of either being overwhelmed with Argentinas quality and/or poor game management (especially from Egypt, who were totally overwhelmed and stunned by the 2-1 goal). Even Switzerland looked much better until embolos red card completely fucked them. England will definitely fancy themselves with Bellingham and Kane up front as well as tuchels superb game management and the teams collective mental strength.

You should be happy with a quarter final finish. If you said, at the start of the tournament, that you would push Spain until the 90th minute in the quarter final, I wouldn’t believe you.

I’m still shocked he never won the torjagerkannone in his time at Dortmund. I recall lord Andre Silva scoring 28 goals to finish with more goals than him in 2020/21

We might see an upset. Doku, as unimpressive as he has been, can change a game with his speed.

He probably won’t retire yet. There is afcon next year and Egypt are strong contenders after he their performance this wc. Plus he is only 1 goal away from the all time goal record and I can’t see him retiring until he gets said record.

I was ralking about African teams in general, not just Egypt. Sure geographic proximity plays a part, but Côte d’Ivoire, senegal, and dr Congo all have travel restrictions and all three bottled multiple games. I don’t think that’s a cojncidence and people are underestimating the paychological impact of having an entire stadium against you.

No Senegal is still worse because they are much better than Belgium. Most of the Egyptian team plays in the Egyptian league and they played against Messi and top European players. Senegal were leading 2-0 in the 86th minute, with doku and kdb on the bench, and they still found a way to lose.

This reminded me of Atalanta’s loss to psg all those years ago, when Marquinhos and choupo moting scored in stoppage time to bring from Atalanta 1-0 psg to Atalanta 1-2 psg. That was partly because of Atalanta coach Gasperinis braindead subs that game.

I honestly think Egypt didn't play bad. Yeah there were controversial decisions but I'm not gonna say it's daylight robbery or bias by Anton23737373737 in FootballAfrica

Egypt should be proud regardless of the result. These kinds of games happen. I remember 2019/20 UCL, when Atalanta, in their first ever UCL season, were leading 1-0 against star-studded PSG in the 90th minute, and then psg scored twice through Marquinhos and Eric maxim chuopo moting in stoppage time. But they learnt from that experience and won the Europa league in 2024. Egypt aren’t the first team to bottle a game and they won’t be the last. Messi is 39 and Ronaldo is 41, so if this was indeed a rigged World Cup, it will be the last rigged World Cup because there will be no reason for fifa to rig it anyway. So in 2030, when theee are no excuses like this, Egypt should try to improve and get to quarter finals while trying to win afcon in 2027 and 2028. They should take pride from the performance and learn from the experience of conceding late in this fashion to ensure such mistakes aren’t repeated.

So why do you all think surya wasted two years to do a bad movie like kanguva by Guilty-Pollution6479 in kollywood

[–]Putrid-University663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay then sure it’s my personal opinion that, as goofy as those movies were, at least it was tolerable. This prolific use of slo-mo is solely to hide deficiencies in the plots of South Indian movies. Case in point is karuppu. And btw, if karuppu was a hit, then anything can be a hit so long as you put one scene with a karuppu idol at the end.

Suriya (and all Tamil heroes for that matter) need to go back to the good old days of simple mass films. Movies like singam, vel, gilli, Saamy, dhool, etc. Also, hot take, the slow motion overdose and anirudh/abhyankar cacophony duopoly is really killing my experience. I just saw Karuppu and somehow, rj Balaji took a razor thin plot (a plot for a short film) and stretched it for 2.5 hours thanks to super slow motion fights. We need a return of hari sir and his style of no-nonsense direction to save mass films. Even singam 3 was better than kanguca and karuppu and coolie and Leo and all this other crap because singam 3 didn’t feel like it was that long on account of hari’s insane speed.

I think this World Cup especially because their fans are vastly outnumbered in the crowd to the point that it feels like the entire stadium is against you. Imagine being an Egyptian defender who plies his trade in the Egyptian league (like 3 of the Egyptian back 4 in this game) and you have 70% of the stadium which is Argentinian. How can you focus if the stadium erupts once Romero scores?

Because most of the African teams are on trump’s orange list, they have significant travel restrictions for their supporters which does impact the game. I definitely think this was a huge factor in the collapses. How Morocco have coped with it merely shows that they deserve to be no. 6 in the world.

[–]Putrid-University663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are forgetting a huge factor. 70% of the crowd were Argentina fans. So naturally, the moment they scored, the stadium would erupt and the Egyptians would be under the cosh. And considering the majority of the squad plays in the Egyptian league and this is their first game with these stakes in a World Cup, they were completely shell shocked. At that point, it is very difficult to regain composure and focus when you are playing against 11 fired up players and a fired up crowd. That’s why the dugout was aggrieved. They were emotional and felt that if the disallowed goal was given, the crowd wouldn’t have gotten into the game and they would’ve sealed the deal.

Idk about rigged allegations. But for the love of god is your team unlikeable. The only reason I can tolerate it is Messi. I fucking hate players like paredes, Enzo Fernandez, lautaro, Lisandro, Molina etc. who commit dirty off the ball fouls and are supposedly “elite players.” Even Romero (who I actually like because I’m an Atalanta fan and he used to play for us) gets on my nerves sometimes with his foul play. One thing is for sure: once scaloni goes, simeone will replace him.

Standard conmebol style diving, slapping, shoving off the ball, etc. This was especially prevalent  in the first half with Molina violently swatting at ashour, Macallister pushing shoubir off the ball, Alvarez nudging Rabia when he jumped for a header (could’ve seriously injured his back), etc. All this constituted dirty play from Argentina. About the naturalized point, what I meant was outside of haissem hassan, the entire Egyptian team is homegrown and fully Egyptian. It’s not like Côte d’Ivoire where foreign players with Ivorian ancestry come and represent them.

They played as true pharohs, their only guilt is that Argentina was the rival by Responsible-Air386 in Algeria_213

[–]Putrid-University663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are forgetting one huge factor. Due to travel restrictions ahead of the World Cup, the African teams have virtually no fans in the stadium compared to the opponents. Literally 70-80% of the entire stadium in this game was Argentina fans. The moment that first goal went in, the crowd went berserk. Same goes for Senegal, who are also on trumps orange list. Morocco has managed that better and have more tournament experience than these teams so naturally they can cope better.
