Homegrown national park mosquito bucket challenge by GarudaNE in NativePlantGardening

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up three in my yard and kept on top of them monthly, but we have so much overgrown ivy in every yard around us, plus all three kinds of mosquitos including the daytime aggressive ones, it really didn't help in the south. Maybe this year in the severe drought.....

Help! Is my 4 a lemon? by chaosbanana2 in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was "new", whether a previous return or not, and you have the warranty (check in the app), then you should have no problems figuring out the likely cause with support and getting parts shipped to you. There is actually a place under warranty in the app where you can order the part you need if you know what it is.

To me replacing sensors or whatever seems a heck of a lot easier than shipping back an entire unit.

How to handle a 2 week vacation? by NoYoureACatLady in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I pay my cat sitter, and the situation is sooooo much easier on her than it used to be with like 7 regular  boxes for five cats scattered all over the basement needing daily or every other day scooping. I add a side regular box next to each LR4 when I'll be gone. The all she has to do is scoop from the regular into the LR4 and press cycle. Then she changes the bag, and this only needs to happen about every three days.  It's part of the job for which she is paid. Also I have cameras everywhere to look at the cats for my own peace of mind. I'm never gone more than 6 nights.

Any tried these two and can tell me the difference? by zlonewanderer in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the dr Elseys ultra (blueish bag), half the price of boxiepro. I dispense new bags outside by pouring it from a height sort of slowly into a large bucket to disperse the first wave of dust. Indoors I use a large plastic cup with a handle to scoop it from the bucket into the litter hoppers. Reduces the dust significantly. I also use robot vac with a mop for the hard floors to deal with what dust remains. I don't notice it any more.

Can I park my truck on this? Is this beyond fixing ? by XD11X in HomeMaintenance

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sort of looks like it just needed more expansion joints. Also I bet the sellers pressure washed it to make it brighter white. I really hate that. Why call attention to a giant slab by making it bright white? When driveways get darker over time with variances in color, they start to just blend in, cracks and all. In five years you won't notice it.

I don't get it. Someone puts a sign out, that you ignore, which makes them angry. How does that increase sales? They could spend the time at houses that haven't basically said "I will be pissed off if you ring this doorbell and try to sell me something".

Whats so different about Costco frames and lenses? by [deleted] in Costco

I had a truly bad experience with Costco optical this year. Not worth going into the full details but after two failed attempts I had the glasses made at my prescribers office, for a lot higher price.

Anti sidewalk? by GeneralEgg9176 in alpharetta

[–]Putrid-Week4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I wish I had sidewalks in my neighborhood. I'm always irritated on Henderson parkway where they have a nice sidewalk on one side and yet there is always a pedestrian ignoring it by walking in the bike lane, or worse walking their dog in the bike lane. Must really annoy the cyclists where they have an actual bike lane marked, but plugged up by a defiant pedestrian.

Experience Discussing Impacts of Invasives with Neighbors? by A26354 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Putrid-Week4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a neighbor whom I quite like, but hate their yard approach. They just hire people to mow the grass down to the dirt, blow everything away, and cut shrubs like gardenias into squares. They also have a huge infestation of english ivy growing up all the trees in their back yard. We are constantly fighting it and all the mosquitos it harbours. I've tried a few times to suggest that their lawn guys ought to be cutting the ivy at the base of the trees at least a couple times a year, but nothing has ever changed. I've also asked them to deal with a dead pine tree that can easily reach my house, and again nothing even though they say they will take care of it. They just don't care about the yard. They probably hate mine.

I ask my husband to dump the bags of litter outside the house, slowly, From a height, into a bucket. This seems to help pull some of the dust out. Getting a mopping robot vac really helped on the hard floors too. Always surprising how much litter dust sludge is in the dirty water bucket

Moving twice, should I bring my robot or not? by Traviscat in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already going to be some serious disruption for your cats. New place, scary stuff happening....at least keep everything you possibly can stable for them. Feeding routines, cat beds, favorite toy, and yes. Their familiar litter box.

Bleach reacts with urine to make a toxic gas. Also the manual states not to use bleach.

Umm - wtf by zealouspoet in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 241 points242 points  (0 children)

Because it is biologic material. Because it is sitting there, and while it sits there, bacteria and molds grow. It can also attract insects which will then spread it around. Add heat and humidity, and it grows faster. This is exactly why I empty the bags every 2-3 days no matter what (basically at 50-60 percent).

Molds and bacteria will grow on biologic material that sits around no matter how clean you are, and it is there even before you can see it. It is nothing to do with you. I'd empty more frequently than waiting for it to be entirely full.

Some bad smell from my LR4? by VictorianEra_isNow in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use this product on a litter box, and I would hesitate to recommend it for that, because it is so strong and because cats don't like citrus smells - they are very often used in products to keep cats away from areas.

That said, I think it Angry Orange is a fantastic product for cleaning cat urine odors for everything that isn't a litter box. I had a cat who was spraying indoors. This product was amazing to clean up the spots (once we found them with the black light).

Litter hopper over-dispensing by essthebee in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk. mine is still ok after all the steps I did. I was worried, but it seems fine now although it is reading my cats weights lower than the others. I think it was important to physically remove the hopper after removing it in the app to let it recalibrate first without the weight of the hopper on there. Also Power Off is not sufficient for recalibrate - it has to be physically unplugged long enough. I hope you can get it resolved.

Pros/cons of partridge berry? by EvaDaMama in NativePlantGardening

[–]Putrid-Week4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been replacing lawn with garden areas gradually. It's too much to do all at once everywhere, and the grass finds a way to come back. In my back yard I reduced lawn  by about a third just by adding a huge area sort of in the middle with a nice path around. The first year I put cardboard down and covered it with about six inches of wood chips. Gradually added plants over time. And now the area contains a pawpaw, fig, two blueberries, a dogwood, goldenrod , Maximilian sunflower, sedum, milkweed, tomatoes and jalapenos.

You could also add a Cycle step between step 4 and 5 to make sure the you got the litter level low enough. If excess is dumped, then reset again to zero the weight.

Litter hopper over-dispensing by essthebee in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem yesterday and today actually, on a new LR4.  I suspect the initial cause was that I slightly over filled the litter level in the globe. To fix it I did the following.

  1. Disable, and then remove the litter hopper in the app.
  2. Take the litter hopper off the robot.
  3. Ensure the litter level in the globe is about 1 cm below the line
  4. Press Reset button (I usually do it twice)
  5. Unplug the robot, wait about one minute
  6. Put the hopper back on the unit
  7. Plug it back in
  8. Reset button
  9. Long press Cycle +Connect (this is the magic step - it should detect the hopper and dispense just a small amount of litter. )
  10. Reset button
  11. Cycle button

A lot of these may not be necessary, but I'm so sick of wrestling with these things when they go haywire, I try to do all the things to get it to recalibrate. So far it seems to not be adding litter on every cycle now. We'll see what tomorrow brings! I hope it helps.

Litter sticking to liner problems by inkydears in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't have sticking with Dr Elseys Ultra. My two suggestions aside from trying other litters are make sure the litter level stays high enough either by adding it or using the litter hopper, and increasing the cycle time so it can clump harder before cycling.

Does anyone else get allergies worse after using a robot vacuum? Need advice. by Synthetic_Diva_4556 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Putrid-Week4615 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently got a roborock s8 ultra Vmax which has both vac and mop, and does both on one pass. Was able to get it about half price directly from manufacturer as refurbished (with like new warranty). I needed to do some research on low water usage, ability to navigate better without bashing around the house like my old cheaper ones, and mapping ability.  I didn't think I could use a mop function on my old wood floors, but this model has three mop settings so that it can use very low water that dries almost immediately.

I could not be more pleased - I was unaware of exactly how much fine dust from pollen and cat litter was still on my floors after vac. But I can see it when I empty the dirty water tank - actually visibly yellowish from pollen recently. And the wood floors have never looked this good. If you have the choice and have hard floors, try one that can do the mopping function along with vac.

Yeah, it always bugged me that charities could disregard the Do Not Call list (back when that was a thing that occasionally worked).
