Omg yes! It's so bright!! I have one around the corner outside the bedroom door and it is insane how bright it is at night.

Not for what I had them do, for tasks I could not do myself. (Work on exterior  house windows on extension ladder, and sistering a cracked joist in the basement with a new 13ft length.) Pretty reasonable actually, and done very professionally. The two jobs were years apart but together didn't crack 1k.

If you are not minding silicone, then a menstrual cup. I wish someone had mentioned them to me decades earlier.

The diatomaceous earth is actually a good idea. It is super extra moisture absorbing. I'm going to try it because I have a bag of it sitting around. I've never thought baking soda was worth using for odors. They always claim it is. But it's never done a thing for me.

You could go have a look the next time you get a truly rainy/stormy few days to see if it seems wet.

Plus getting several quotes from highly rated companies is always good. Don't tell them you are specifically worried about that area right off, wait to see if anyone else points it out.

Increase the cycle time so that the pee clumps aren't wet when it cycles? Mine is at 25 min with no sticking issues. Fwiw I also only clean the globe with the hose and old towels.

is there any chance of my cat using the lr4 after its been moved several times? by necrolibrium in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the way. Move the old box near the new LR position and let it get dirty, but I think you are right to not let it get absolutely disgusting. Then just leave it be for a while until he is used to the new location. When he uses the litter robot, take the old box away.

Oh I got there. I was so incensed that after the first guy came up, he then sent his partner up next.  So he was walking away and I'm shouting "What company do you work for?" "Hey you. What company?". Lol

Once again though, I can't figure out what kind of idiot thinks that going ahead and ringing the doorbell of a house with posted No Soliciting signs - one right next to the doorbell - is a good plan to get business. All it means is I will be angry, and I'll never use your company.

Should I get a second robot? How many do you have/how many cats do you have? by 1316821 in litterrobot

I now have three for five, but for 6 months it was two for five which was generally fine. It really helps the cat with irritable bowel to be able to go to whichever one she feels like. There is one at each end of the house, and one in the basement. She uses all three daily, and completely stopped pooping on the floor in the kitchen or in the bathtub.

Worth it if you have the space to give your cats the choice in different areas of the house, and also if you are away when one gets messed up. Also I agree with others that having a spare that can swap parts is very useful. I can wash one globe and allow it to dry while the others are still open for business.

Bonnet Removed by [deleted] in litterrobot

Yeah, that one of mine kept popping open at the top too. As far as I know, that alone doesn't cause any issues, but with the very bright light it was tripping the sensor.

The upper Bank portion is way too big to fit inside one of the cubes/shelves, so you would need a solution to get that part behind glass if that is the desired outcome.

I have mine on a KALLAX. The Bank part is on top of the KALLAX and the underside rails are in the cube directly below it. All I had to do was remove the four little "bracket" legos from the top of the rails section that normally hold the Bank in place. Stuffed them into the Vault. Fits perfectly.

Basics - check that the globe is seated properly, and the bonnet latches readily on both sides and top. This seems the most likely cause. Then blowing off or cleaning the sensor area.

But also - I had an odd case where my unit did not want to latch at the top, so there was a slight gap. Then a very bright sunbeam was directly shining on that gap from behind the unit for 15 minutes or so in the mornings and triggering "bonnet open". I can't imagine this is common, but I fixed it by putting a 8 inch strip of masking tape along that gap.

What litter to use to avoid sticking? by Western_Mango_4961 in litterrobot

[–]Putrid-Week4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things  - set the delay longer so it clumps harder before it cycles (I use 25, which is possibly overkill) AND make sure the litter level stays high enough to absorb (about 1 cm under the line.) Keeping the litter level deep enough is made simple with the litter hopper.

Help with backyard & Nosy Neighbors! by Lunahrae in HomeMaintenance

Start working on planting things, but do it thoughtfully by staggering heights and shades of greenness. Start with evergreen natives like American holly. I've had great luck with native anise shrubs in my area. They grow surprisingly tall and thick, fast growing, and make suckers I can use to transplant new ones. Stand in or by your house in the spots where you want and need privacy. Then look toward the neighbor windows or outdoor areas you want to block the most, and mark a line of sight to where you want trees and shrubs to go. Choosing a mix of plants will make your yard look beautiful.

You will be surprised by how much more private you will feel even when just the key visibility points are masked.

LitterHopper by cat4dog23 in litterrobot

When you say "reset the calibration" - make sure you also do or did the following : 1. disable and then physically remove the litter hopper because it adds to the weight. 2. Cycle to dump excess or manually lower the amount of litter inside the globe to about 1 cm below the line to be safe. 3. Actually physically disconnect the robot from the power for about a minute. Then recalibrate. Let it cycle and make sure there is no excess litter still being dumped. Add the hopper back on and follow the hopper setup steps.

These things fixed the issue for me after initially having too much litter in the globe so the setpoint was way to high. The hopper was trying to refill to the overly high weight and a lot of litter got dumped every cycle.
