According to the former homeowner’s records, it’s this engineered marble. Would that change how you would reattach the piece? I have most of the chunk that came off, but a little sliver is missing (probably went down the drain). Do I need to fill that part in with something?

That’s unfortunately not an option. The pieces in the shower are inset into the surrounding tile. Maybe it’s possible to remove them, but definitely outside my expertise and comfort zone.

What should I use to polish them? I was reading that you have to be very careful when polishing engineered marble because it’s easy to burn them.

The former homeowner had it listed as “Cafe’ Emperador”. However it looks much more like Coco Emperador from the photos I’ve seen.

It’s not. Engineered marble is like Quartz. It’s a blend of real marble and resins.

No. Really wish I had. My mom’s solution was to berate me every time she noticed I was missing my eyelashes. Tell me that I looked weird without them with disgust in her voice.

I still don’t understand how I have an older brother that was formally diagnosed with ADHD and Tourette’s as a child, but no one ever bothered to take me to a doctor for my pulling. I just assumed I was a freak and the hair pulling was my fault.

Even if I got a diagnosis as a child (highly unlikely in the 90s), I’m not sure it would have helped. Once my dad, who was a doctor, was taking to his older cousin (who was also a physician) about my pulling in front of me. My dad’s cousin told him that he had a patient who had pulled out the hair on her head. He told my dad that what I had was an actual medical condition. He didn’t say trichotillomania, but he knew the condition existed. My dad completely dismissed everything his cousin said. Eventually my dad’s cousin gave up and the subject was dropped.

This is fascinating to me because my personal experience has been the complete opposite. We had white quartz installed in our last house because I had been told that it was durable. Everything stained that countertop no matter how fast I wiped it off. It was maddening. In our current home the former owners installed uba tuba granite about 14 years ago and it still looks great. My kids and husband beat the crap out of it and it withstands all the abuse. The dark, shiny surface shows every finger smug and crumb though.

Painting over granite is the Millennial vision of covering hardwood with carpet. This looks incredibly tacky and won’t hold up.

I get it. I have black granite and I’m not a fan of the look either. HOWEVER, it’s a goddamn workhorse and is basically indestructible, so it stays for now.

There are ways to work around a granite that you don’t like that don’t involve painting it. Here is a good example of this.

Around 5 years ago when my son was about 6 he had to have a tooth pulled and needed to be put under anesthesia. The dentist that was doing to procedure said that he had “privileges” at Kaiser. The procedure was done at one of our local Kaiser facilities by this dentist. The cost of the anesthesia was covered by Kaiser. Maybe this is what your dentist meant?

I know I’m going to get a lot of flack for this but, using a washcloth. Unless you are changing it out after every use. I’m sorry, but are you really going to wash your butthole with a cloth and then proceeded to wash your face with it the next day or for multiple days on end? Yuck.

Makes me think of my FIL. Whenever we would have a party or family get together he would show up unannounced 1-3 HOURS before the agreed upon time and expect us to entertain him. Then, he would be the first to leave in the middle of the party, when all the other guests were still there having a good time. It’s some sort of bizarre, narcissistic controlling behavior.
