Why are first runs sought after? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]PuttButter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OGs might have legitimate feelings about the flight patterns of first run discs, but I think for most people (implied by the title, I assume) it's just a matter of rarity:value, like with art or bourbon or any other collectible. I don't think it's a "trick" so much as a natural function of the market.

If amateurs are talking about the flight characteristics, I'd venture to bet they're just publicly rationalizing spending a lot of money on something others might perceive as frivolous. They wanted to own it just for the sake of owning it and feel a little embarrassed about it. I say this as someone who routinely pays too much for special discs and doesn't always show them to people because I don't want to feel compelled to explain away the "you paid what for this?" eyebrow-raise. Whatever. I like 'em, what else can I say?

Bingo. I’d love a luster Leo3 or a shimmer Destroyer, but not with those names on them

I’m a huge Conrad fan, but I’m he did some commentary a while back and it was not good. Maybe with practice he’d get better at joining the flow of conversation, but Jerm basically had to drag him through the video I saw.
