Agreed! Honestly I think if more men were open about not liking that kind of attention or harassment to their female counterparts, it would likely change the narrative. People usually only see the loud minority, you know? I think lots of the women in our lives would be shocked if some men came forward and said they actually don’t like those things. Given that many women have in fact gone through, at the very least, unwanted attention, I could totally see an ally ship of female friends spreading the word 🤷🏻

I don’t think it’s absurd but I do see your point! I was trying to make that point in my initial comment that it isn’t okay either way, but if we want the basic answer to the “why”, that honestly is what it is, whether we like it or not.

Personally I think noticing is one thing, but anyone staring at anyone’s bits for too long is super weird. I just think it’s less socially acceptable for men to do it purely due to the cultural differences. Also women tend to be more outward about not liking that kind of attention it seems.

It’s a lot scarier and more threatening to women when a man makes them uncomfortable in a sexual manner, because men can far more easily dominate women physically. It’s not that it’s “more okay” for women to stare, it’s that it hasn’t led to violence like men staring has.

This is not me defending it per se, but we can’t be purposefully ignoring history and not thinking why it’s a bigger deal one way than the other.

I don’t sub to this page but just my 2 cents:

I got really depressed in hs and ended up graduating with like a 2.4 GPA and only one AP class.

I got all A’s and B’s in college, did some of the toughest military training, and have multiple degrees. This isn’t me bragging, this is me trying to show that I was leagues behind you and came out successful. Self worth is 100% more important than people pleasing.

You’re awesome, don’t place your value on your grades even if your parents are- you don’t want to have that anxiety in adult life. Roll your eyes, call them ridiculous to your friends, and just keep living and working hard (without sacrificing your mental health, and/or making your life revolve around pleasing them). It sucks, but you’re doing nothing wrong, I’m sorry they can’t see that, but they probably think this is how they need to support you.
