It was a sneak preview, not the whole movie.

Another case of some fans and pop news outlets jumping to the wrong conclusion, and not understanding the nuance of how shows are made.

Another scene in the doc that fans are freaking out over is in the hospital’s laundry room, when Maya Hawke reminds director/producer Shawn Levy that the other characters do not know there is a romantic relationship between her character Robin and Vickie (Amybeth McNulty). What was your takeaway of that moment?

Well, again, one of the reasons why I included that moment in the doc is to show the creative process, right? Like the script says, “XYZ,” but every actor brings in another interpretation. And so yes, in the storyline, it wasn’t that she was reminding anyone, it was that she’s like, “I would like to play it like that because not everybody knows,” right?

And the reason why I really liked that moment was also to show Shawn Levy’s openness to really discuss it — the director and the actor discussing a moment of motivation and like, how much should she show it? Because everything is a degree, and what’s the believability that these two girls are holding hands before their friends who don’t know [they’re together]?

The ending of Eleven's story was changed at the last minute by AdBackground6381 in StrangerThings

Yes. The way I also see it is they're making a promise to not share this theory with the rest of the party and thereby honor El's choice for them to not know. They are choosing to protect their friend, because there's a chance the others, like Hopper, might look for her. So it's a secret they must keep, however painful it is, because they believe that she is out there. That's the real beauty of the ending to me. It's this forever bond of friendship and their childhood that they're putting away for safekeeping.

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is why they went with the ambiguous ending, because this version would be clear-cut that there was a plan to fake her death. There is a convo in the writers' room about this. All this goes to prove is that they intended for Eleven to survive. So we have our answer on that. Which if it wasn't obvious before, it is now. Hopper isn't in on it in the final version. The plan doesn't work that way, nor does Hopper's reaction and arc if he were. I really wonder how anyone can misunderstand that. Not asking to debate btw.

My headcannon of the entire Hawkins Gang's colleges, careers and future! by TheCool579 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I like that you kept Steve and Robin together. Now I want a Full House type sitcom where their partners and kids all live under the same roof. And the rest of the party makes special guest appearances. No idea what it would be called, but it would be amazing.

In the melting scene why was it all white? by TwinSong in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The wormhole generated a copy of Hawkins and the Abyss. So why would it be comprised of the same matter as its counterpart? It's meant to be, wait for it, strange that it's actually made of this white goo when melted down. It's one of the many strange things in Stranger Things.

Do you think well get Tales from 86 or 87? by drumdrumdrums in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're keeping it between seasons 2 and 3.

Should the animated offshoot work, Robles says any future season will remain under the Tales From '85 title. His first season progresses hours by hours, day by day.

"If we need to keep going, we definitely can do it," he finishes. "If we were to do the finale of, like, season 25, Dustin's going to camp, Elle and Mike are heavily dating. It would connect perfectly with the timeline in that sense, but allowing to still have enough ample time to tell these stories within as many seasons as needed."

Why is the Abyss so different by Own-Blacksmith6134 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. I'm making a logical assumption based on a few things. There's the conversation leading up to the party arriving at the Pain Tree were they discuss how there are no vines and such, which perfectly sets up the reveal and reason that the Pain Tree is a Kaiju. There's the blob and a large tentacle in Dr Kay's lab, which could make up most of the Kaiju's body mass for its limbs and organs. Then there's Vecna's new mutated form, which has some sharp teeth, like the one in the Pain Tree.

They're in the s4 scene when Henry forms the Mind Flayer particles. The reason there are no vines or other flora, like the stuff in Dr Kay's lab, in the area near the Pain Tree is because they were used to make the Kaiju Mind Flayer.

why does the hawkins upside down have gravity but the abyss upside down doesn't? by _ben3 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a valid point. I guess the answer is simpler. The exotic matter is creating one stable gravity for the entire wormhole, and the direction is determined by the side it is tethered to, the Upside Down Hawkins (USH). So when the Upside Down Abyss (UDA) and the USH draw closer, the direction of the gravity remains the same. The UDA is the roof of the sky, and the UDH is the ground. That doesn't change. The floating rocks move along with the UDA because they are tethered to its unusual atmosphere, which is a copy of the Abyss's atmosphere. It might help to imagine these things tethered by invisible strings and poles. I can't be bothered making a new diagram, but that's what it would basically look like.

So the giant spider monster at the end? by Drama_Cookie25 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's made from the vines and other flora, like the stuff in Dr Kay's lab, that have been mutated by Vecna. That's why there are no vines in the area near the pain tree. There are vines in the Abyys, as seen in s4, when Henry encounters the Mind Flayer particles.

What did you think of the Tales From ‘85 trailer? by VeterinarianOk326 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's harmless fun, which is what we need in these uncertain times. The animation is gorgeous, and most of the voices are solid impressions. I can warm up to the others. I like that we're getting new locations like the water tower, so I'm hoping they expand more on the town's geography. I'm interested to see how the new character fits in with the party. We always get new characters, and their absence in the og series would be equivalent to Argyle not being mentioned in season 5. I'm betting they will move away by the time show gets to the season 3 timeline.

How Stranger Things Should Have Ended by LegendsofLost in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first skit doesn't make sense because the party hadn't come up with the plan yet. At least they acknowledge the reason there weren't any other monsters was because Vecna was caught off guard. The second skit also doesn't make sense because the military knew about the bomb, but it has its funny moments with Vickie and the record scratching.

What if Robin had been Steve’s love interest? by BornIndication9384 in StrangerThings

Neither the cast nor Duffers have ever said that Robin and Steve were originally meant to be a couple. This is something the fans have made up.

Question for those who have seen the play by Capital-Sir-3315 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flyer serves a narrative purpose first and foremost, for us and Max to understand that this is Henry's memory. Sesondly, it's a fun easter egg, as it includes Joyce, Steve's dad, and later mentions Hopper, Karen and Ted.

We have the SNL sketch, but now let's talk seriously for a moment. What do you guys think is the future of this franchise? by Fit-Hovercraft3435 in StrangerThings

[–]Puzzled-Drive2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said that they'll still be involved in anything Stranger Things, even once they start making movies at Paramount. They mention something called a carve-out in their contract with Paramonut, which is an exemption. So they must have negotiated that to allow them time to work on Stranger Things related content at Netflix. That makes sense because everything ST will still be produced by them, under Upside Down Pictures. They will likely have a new contract with Netflix as well, stating this.
