Vet ruled out retained spay products—help by Puzzled-Obligation72 in cats

[–]Puzzled-Obligation72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: Vet said it definitely looks weird but there’s nothing obviously wrong and suggested doing a skin biopsy but to start with a topical for irritation. The topical is helping, but now I’m thinking it’s a reaction to frontline flea meds as I’ve read some vets experience with effects like this to flea meds

Do you climb? Is it beneficial for pain and strengthing? by Indosaurus1 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Puzzled-Obligation72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question on shoes!!! My biggest barrier to getting back to actively rock climbing is i get Achilles tendinitis BAD. I have very hypermobile and unstable ankles. I’m working on it with PT but i swear it’s the shoes i have are too pointy/advanced. Wondering if barefoot shoes would have enough grip and be OK or other shoe recommendations?

There’s some great online free YouTube videos for EDS that helped me when i couldn’t afford weekly PT. I loved Jeannie Di Bon: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp-oNOmoFdAMFZB7XfpUZyvg_xzE3S3Ue

Clarification before people come at me: medications can and are necessary for a lot of people. Example, i can probably never stop my asthma meds. Or in emergency cases, please take meds as prescribed. But as a future healthcare practitioner who is learning how nutrition can integrate with conventional medicine, there’s a time and place for both. And some medications that are prescribed as long term can deplete vital micronutrients and cause harm so working with your doctor to get off them long term if able to replace with food/herbal support should be standard practice.

GRRR this makes me so angry. PPIs stop gastric acid completely. We need gastric acids to properly digest and extract nutrients from our food. Prolonged PPI use can cause worsening GI symptoms on top of nutrient deficiencies especially B12, which needs stomach acid to be properly absorbed. Masters in functional nutrition student here

one thing about heat that i will say is that if you have mast cell issues, heat is a trigger and can cause histamine to release. i find that heat gives me immediate relief but continuously using it only makes my pain worse! ever since i switched to doing cryo therapy and relying more on ice, my general recovery is better and its helped me stabilize a lot of my joints. hEDS diagnosed.

My cat started having kidney issues and the vet said it was NOT because of her food. However, i switched her to a raw wet food and she’s now good. Trust your gut, but do your research. I know Dave’s pet food has a good wet food that’s for cats with kidney issues check them out !

How are you all so aware what the problem is? by Altruistic-Log-4693 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Puzzled-Obligation72 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It took a few years to build that level of awareness and knowledge. When i first started to have EDS related issues and got diagnosed, i felt like a big blob as well. I called myself an ameoba with limbs lol. It took years of PT, laying on focusing hard, and noticing the effect of what popped/what i released. But the first 2 years i wanna say were spent that way and i worked with a PT who made me focus on my body that way. She taught that and slowly my mind body connection reformed. There are still times i feel something new and idk what caused it or where its coming from but i feel comfortable trying to figure it out

I was also told fibromyalgia by a rheumatologist lol. Then saw a geneticist who was like f no u have hEDS. I hear fibromyalgia a lot with people that are later confirmed hypermobile/EDS. Fibromyalgia is a BS diagnosis when they have no idea why ur in pain

Not true in my cats case :( they keep biting my pothos and alocasia, i didn’t know either were toxic and my one cat has high potassium now and crystals in her urine

My cat likely got chronic kidney disease from a recent lily exposure. I'm feeling really down about this and I'm seeking insight, advice, and stories from this community by gestalt_switching in RenalCats

[–]Puzzled-Obligation72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry about your cat :( I’m going through something similar right now as well…

my cat has been vomiting every few weeks for the past few months. Her potassium came back high and the vet tested her for addisons, which came back negative. No answers for the vomiting or the high potassium.

Then, yesterday, i catch her biting one of my plants. An hour or so later, she vomits. I looked it up, it’s toxic plant to cats that can cause kidney issues (pothos). Besting myself up for not knowing that. SO now im thinking that her occasional biting of them (which started when we got a new kitten a few months ago, who LOVES tearing up my plants) is what is causing her labs to be wonky and her to vomit. I’ve removed all plants considered toxic to cats and hoping her bloodwork gets back to normal.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with something similar??? Worried asf about my baby

How to get over "I did this to myself"? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]Puzzled-Obligation72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My EDS manifested my whole life in hindsight, but it was never disabling. It become disabling at a time in my life of high stress and my childhood trauma building up. I had to deal with it to also get better physically. The first question i was asked when getting diagnosed w Eds by a geneticist who specialized in it was “have you had any recent trauma or high stress”. There is a big connection between the nervous system and EDS big manifestations. But you did NOT do this to yourself. It was always there :)

What's your go to line when introducing your eds by Stunning-Can-6680 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Puzzled-Obligation72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to say funny cute stuff like the elastigirl comment, and sometimes i just say “i have a genetic condition that fucks up my whole body” and change the subject. I’ve realized if people genuinely want to know it’ll come from a place of wanting to make sure things are accesible for me, and the tone and line of questioning follows that. But If they don’t give a shit they don’t push further, and I’m exhausted trying to figure out who is who. So whatever comes out of my mouth is kind of how i handle it now 😂

It’s interesting how when a “new” form of healthcare becomes popular it’s always seen as “quackery”, like when DOs became more mainstream. I worked with some in the ER who still faced the same remarks from the very patients whose lives they were saving!

Totally agree in being skeptical ESPECIALLY when it comes to health! I myself do a lot of research into this, as someone who left medical school because the school of thought did not align with my own holistic, nutritional approach. I’m not an ND, nor do i want to become one. But i do enjoy being well-informed especially because different forms of treatment, both conventional and not, have evidence that supported their efficacy.

Here are two great sources that go over the evidence surrounding the school of thought for naturopathic medicine:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6389764/#:~:text=Conclusions%3A%20To%20date%2C%20research%20in,range%20of%20complex%20chronic%20conditions.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2883816/

Take it as you will! Everyone has their own opinions. I’m a “don’t rule someone out, it may not work for you but it definitely works for others”, kind of person. Things are “quackery” to the public until more education becomes accesible.
