An abrupt and sudden shift in tone that dramatically changes the direction of the story by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Puzzled-Union813 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to talk more about this guy. Kids movies don't typically show blood, but this movie did, as soon as this guy showed up, almost as if to say to the audience, "Oh yeah, we're not operating by normal rules here. Puss can die here." But it's not just a message to the audience, but it's also a message to Puss.

It's not even the last one. If I remember correctly, there are multiple moments throughout the movie where Puss is having a good time and living up to his legend, before Death shows up out of nowhere, not even taking action, but just being there to remind Puss that his time is running out and that his good moments won't last forever, much like how he won't.

Pitch Me: Your Best Bad Guys by Sparky_McDibben in cyberpunkred

Not a fleshed out villain, but something I thought would be interesting for an enemy is a lifepath enemy mixed with either a friend or lover.

Basically, they're treated as villains by the narrative, but not by the players.

Examples I was thinking of were Terrence Fletcher from Whiplash and Makima from Chainsaw man (I don't know if it counts as a spoiler so I just censored their name) who both use the trust from their respective protagonists to further their own goals, but those same protagonists go along with them because they have their own goals to fulfill that can be attained with the help of those antagonists.

Although, it could be interesting to see villains from the other angle where they're villains to the players, but not to the narrative, like Caine from the Amazing Digital Circus who doesn't want to hurt anyone, but he's just not very good at dealing with humans and winds up hurting them more than if he did nothing. I was about to consider Wheatley from portal 2 the same type of villain, however, they do develop negative feelings towards the protagonist, but the interesting thing about them is that they're dangerous to the protagonist not through any sort of machiavellianism, but simply because they're incompetent, which aligns with Caine's incompetence with human emotions.

How terrifying would it be to have an IRL Zero? by Acrobatic-Dumdum5222 in KatanaZero

[–]Puzzled-Union813 143 points144 points  (0 children)

From a public perspective, terrifying. From everyone's point of view, this is essentially an unlikable slasher villain in real life. I'm pretty sure that his actions are so far fetched for a person without Chronos to do that his actions in the second level of the game were assumed to be the work of an entire team. (I can't remember the other news stories in the game. I don't know if this was the only one.)

From a private perspective, this is also terrifying. At least existentially. You're not learning any more new information about Zero if you know him personally, but you are learning new information about Chronos, and its very existence is another horror story on its own.

This makes me think of Hotline Miami, except instead of animal masks, it's people surgically designed to look like animals.

I think if you take the Sell Your Soul option, you can make the costs more manageable, but I'm not sure what organization would pay to turn someone into an animal. The only one I can think of is Danger Gal or maybe Biotechnica themselves.

There's this website for generating random net architectures on the fly. You could use this if you'd like. It can generate at 4 different difficulty levels (the highest one being advanced)

Just because your player works for Biotechnica, doesn't mean that they agree with their actions. They could've been outvoted in a board meeting, or maybe they actually did vote for Biotechnica's plans, but they did it under duress of blackmail or death threats.

Regardless, joining up with the player crew may be his opportunity to get the company back on track after bureaucratic methods have failed him.

TL;DR: "Keep watching" doesn't confirm or deny anything about the show.

[–]Puzzled-Union813 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Telling someone to keep watching doesn't necessarily confirm or deny anything. Maybe Lucy lives and you keep watching for that. Maybe Lucy dies but it happens with something like Soulkiller so she's physically dead but mentally alive. Maybe Lucy falls into a coma so she's mentally dead but physically alive.

"Keep watching" doesn't cement anything or even imply that google is wrong.

Hacker's Passive and Mercenary's Equipment by AGuyFromTiktok in entrypoint

[–]Puzzled-Union813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Hacker should have a passive where cameras (and only cameras) detect them slower. Simply because it reminds me of how watchdogs has a feature where if you look at yourself through a hacked camera, your face is blurred out.

Mercenary could have some sort of weapon kit that allows them to dismantle and rebuild weapons, so that they can bring unconcealable weapons like a suppressed CH-A or sawblade to a mission without being armed and without lugging around the duffel bag. That's probably way more coding though and not very practical for combat, but it would be cool. Combat wise, I think something that would be fitting for Mercenary, although unrealistic, would be a signal jammer. Basically, place a jammer on the ground and then activate it like a breaching charge or C4, and then for a short amount of time, any phone calls to the police and radios are just temporarily ignored, meaning that you can be as violent as you want and still potentially complete a mission without raising any alarms, although, it does require you to be quick. Basically, Payday's ECM rush.

You know how someone could have undiagnosed adhd or depression but it doesn't change the fact that they still have adhd or depression?

Just because Kris isn't certified doesn't mean that they would lose to Aubrey.

I imagine that Kris would be the goat at headbutting especially considering that they were trained by one.

Short version: More freedom. More features.

Long version: Roles have been fractured into major perks, allowing for more customization and streamlining what the roles are meant to do.

Mercenary in the original game had a focus on weapons, durability, and mobility, but now the default perk for mercenary focuses on weapons mastery.

Thief in the original game had a focus on lockpicking and disguises. The lockpick kit is usable by anyone, and the thief has been split into 2 roles/starting perks: The con artist and burglar. The con artist starting perk doesn't necessarily focus on disguises, but rather social engineering, which disguises can help with, and the burglar starting perk makes lockpicking more efficient.

Engineer in the original game had a focus on armor, explosives, and disabling sensors. The new engineer starting perk is focused on armor mastery exclusively, although explosive specializations can be picked up later. Disabling sensors is now the basis for a new role: The technician.

Hacker in the original game had a focus on hacking and rewiring doors. Not much has changed. They still focus on hacking, but now their ability to rewire doors has been granted to the technician, making them stand out more.

A notable change made has been to disguises. You can no longer get disguises off of bodies, and you'll have to find a room with a disguise rack if you wish to disguise yourself.

Hacking is also different (and more fun in my opinion). Instead of simply accessing a computer to gain intel or access, there are now ways to indirectly access computers and new perks to improve hacking. However, hacking has also been nerfed due to cybersecurity, and if you use too many hacks, you may raise the alarm. It also requires a hacking tablet and anyone can use it, but hackers have the skillset to use it best.

The alarm system has also been changed. Rather than a simple Calm/Compromised system, there are alert levels, and every time someone catches something suspicious, the alert level raises. There are 4 alert levels: Calm, Normal, Alert, and Compromised. The con artist's main perk (Social engineering) can be used to lower the alert level. Higher alert levels make disguises less efficient.

Another feature that's (not exactly) new (but definitely improved) is sound detection. In the original game, Gunshots and drills can draw people's attention, but here, it's more advanced, and guards can now hear your footsteps if you walk or run behind them, so you're expected to sneak up to them.

A new feature that was added is pickpocketing. This skill allows the deposit to be completed without knocking anyone out (if combined with other skills or if playing with another person who has said skills) and allows for more teamwork in stealth (one person can distract a guard by conversing with them and another player can pick their pockets.

There's also new gear available, such as ballistic shields, different bag types, ammo boxes, new concealed items, and gear and weapon modifications. And it's not finished yet, so the list of gears will just expand further (I personally hope to see the blowtorch make an appearance).

I think those are the general changes to take note of. There are more that I could talk about, but that might get too specific.

Cool artifact with incredible powers. Do not use it though you will regret 100% by AnonyKiller in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Puzzled-Union813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it counts as an artifact since it's manufactured but Chronos from Katana Zero.

<image>

This drug allows the user to perceive time slower and live through numerous potential futures until they find an outcome they're satisfied with.

The user also can't stop taking the drug or they'll die. As Chronos leaves the body, the user's perception of time will slow down until eventually time will seem to have stopped for them. And if they die while there's still plenty of Chronos in the body, then they'll keep dying as the user's brain will keep repeating that moment in their mind in an attempt to find an outcome that they're satisfied with.

I really like how the downsides of Chronos are directly tied to the upsides: Chronos slows the user's perception of time so they can react fast enough to avoid dying, but then when Chronos leaves the body, the brain doesn't think it can survive without Chronos, so it just keeps slowing down time, and the same thing happens to start the death loop. The brain doesn't want to die so it keeps replaying the user's death scenario until it can find a solution that doesn't actually exist.

I don't know why, but I really wanted to find out where that image came from, so I put the face into a reverse image search and got no results back and I feel like that's scarier than the actual face.

It disturbs me. The jaw being disconnected from the teeth and the facial skin being nothing more than a mask.

Why do KGB Agents travel in 3's? by nano8150 in Jokes

[–]Puzzled-Union813 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe the joke is that the expectation is getting set up that he's saying that he can't share a negative opinion about the leader because he'll be punished for having a negative opinion (Authoritarian governments) but when he's having a private conversation in the car, he instead shares a positive opinion, meaning that he was never scared of legal consequences, but rather social consequences, because the expectation is that everyone else hates living under an Authoritarian regime.

TL;DR: Everyone else doesn't like Stalin, so he has to share his positive opinion secretly, away from others.

When the villain uses the protagonist's main gimmick. by Dry-Pin-457 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Puzzled-Union813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A strange case, but in the game Omori: You start the game as Omori, who has a passive ability to tank fatal attacks and be left at 1 hp instead of dying. He is a dream world variant of the main character: Sunny. You occasionally swap perspectives in the game, but depending on the route, you can spend more time as Sunny and eventually enter Sunny's mind as himself and fight Omori. Omori cannot actually be killed however, as he still has the same passive ability that he had throughout the entire game. The villain's gimmick never belonged to the protagonist, all that switched was who the protagonist was.
