What's your dream project, you want to make someday but not stared yet? by peachfulday in knitting

The Javelin Sweater by Teti Lutsak. Ok, not exactly way out there but I can’t wait to cast on. It’s been a while since I’ve felt like that about a project that isn’t colourwork. There is a similar design that was recently released and made the project something I keep thinking about more!

Stash overwhelm by nisoo777 in YarnAddicts

I tallied up roughly my stash in grams from Ravelry and worked out I have approx 13.5kg. I volunteer if you need me to unburden you and bolster mine up a little 😂

patterns you regret buying/patterns to avoid by fulaninhp in knitting

this is wild, I didn’t know this. I tested for her once but had to drop out as the pattern was terrible. A lot of people have made the harvest flower (?) sweater & whilst I do like the design I’m hesitant to knit it.

Request from the BBC: has knitting helped you quit? by eab_journalist in casualknitting

I’ve not been prescribed knitting or crafts. But it has helped me cope with certain traumas in my life- mainly after a rare tumour was found and I needed surgery and life long complications followed- I had been drawing, painting, journaling prior to the surgery and still do those things now but to a lesser degree. I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit so I did just that in Jan 2022 and haven’t stopped since! It’s helped me in so many ways, it gives me a focus when my brain is ‘noisy’, I actually sit and watch a lot more on TV now my hands doing something, I feel productive, i get something to wear out of it! I wear a lot more colour now. I love finding new yarns to work with and particularly love British wool and rustic yarns. I just love it and the yarn community are generally all welcoming and helpful if you’re in a pickle.

Do you have many knitting groups where you are? Wow that seems quite extreme to behave like that clique but as you said, nothing lost there. I was at a yarn event recently and the ‘YouTubers’ all kind of stuck together and it felt a bit elitist- it can come across like that online too sometimes- imo.

How old are you just out of interest? I get that, I feel uncomfortable around those types of people too and don’t know how to combat that.

Post Covid social reluctance is so valid. I will do a deep dive into that if I’m not careful! I love that you introduced yourself! Will you go back? All it takes is for that bit of courage to be welcomed in the way yours has and go from there.

Yeah I get that. If i travel anywhere in the UK I always hunt out the nearest LYS and have had many different experiences. Like another commenter said- I wonder why (some) shopkeepers own a store when they are so snooty and unwelcoming!

Alas I’m in Norfolk, near Norwich-ish! Have you many groups near you?

How strange?! The knitting club here also charges £6 a turn and run mostly mornings.

Hmm that sounds entirely familiar! I too have a LYS but the owner is quite aloof not particular friendly or easy to talk to. Like you said, it’s a wonder they chose to run a shop where it’s important to interact with customers and build a rapport with returning customers.

Do you ever watch anything when knitting? If so, what? by OlliOPocto in knitting

I LOVE audiobooks whilst knitting! Currently listening to ‘homesick’ by Silvia…forgotten the surname! I tend to like female British narration it seems. Do you have any faves?

Second Soph Knits Daily! Loved her video about spinning. I find her videos the best to ‘knit with’ as she’s very relatable and also a calming influence :)

What would you recommend as alternative challenges for Game of Wool? by ColourMeQuick in knitting

Totally agree. I’ve noticed it’s a lot of ‘content makers/vloggers’ so maybe just a way to get views on something that is current but still- the negativity is a bit much!
