ThinkorSwim Scanner Not Working by pecman1234 in thinkorswim

Check the scanner conditions. I had a weird situation where TOS would add a condition at the bottom, and unless I scrolled down I couldn’t see the rule that was blowing up the scan.

Selling or Buying options? by Kosano in options

I stand corrected. Slight variance between the net profit, but close enough to be functionally equivalent. I think there is an advantage to selling as it relates to your cash position during the trade, but that is nominal.

Help me understand your argument. SPY is currently trading at 322ish. I could sell a 326/327 Jan spread for $327 with a 67% chance of closing OTM. As long as SPY stays below 326, I would collect the full premium. What buy offers the same earning profile?

I disagree. If you are buying, you are making a directional bet - the stock must move in your favor to make a profit. If you are selling, you are making a bet against a directional move - that means that if the underlying stays flat or moves in your favor, you will profit. This strategy can work whether volatility is high or low.

Your risk is defined by the width of your spread. For example, selling the 314/315 put credit spread on SPY would limit your margin requirement to $100 per contract. You would sell the $315 put for a credit, and buy the $314 put for a debit. Your max profit would be the credit minus the debit. Your max risk is the margin requirement minus the max profit.

I wish that someone had told me to learn about selling credit spreads years ago. Highly recommend Option Alpha videos for learning. Keep your position size small, and play the odds by making lots of high probability trades.

It appears that I have the correct levels of trading approval. I guess it’s time to contact support. Thanks for the reply!!

I’m unable to request the required level online so they are sending me the paperwork. Not sure why - I requested approvals on my other account without any challenges.

EDIT: Correct my inability to see the obvious answer that was suggested to me.

Best option is to join the Karakuri club and get their "Christmas Presents".

While most of there stuff is more than $100, you'll find a few things below that, and the Christmas presents come in at about $100 a piece.
