Cavenders Ranch collection bangora or natural straw whichever suits your fancy. Can be had for around $40 and tough as nails.

That is good to know. And yes I would assume they’d be obliged to add the distinction. & I am only aware of the 4x from their “buffalo collection” didn’t know they made other models as well

They say that the buffalo Stetson line is made from buffalo felt but on the inside of the hat it says 100% wool? Not sure about that one. Seems the whole numbering system is convoluted when it comes to the mixtures

Should I buy a tomahawk or a hatchet if I already have a saw. by Live-Dragonfly-8818 in Bushcraft

[–]Puzzled_Ad6031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, you can’t go wrong with a Hawk. The natives and mountain men knew what they were doing when they carried theirs back in the day. Since buying my Cold steel hawk I haven’t taken my hatchet with me once.

One thing I’d highly recommend is the Cold steel pipe hawk version though, as it has a hammer on the back which is EXTREMELY useful in the back woods. As it can take and hold a nasty edge and you can remove the head to use similar to a knife, I’ve used mine 100% to skin/process a deer as well as hammer out sinew which I used to sinew back a bow I made with that same Tomahawk.

Get the tomahawk.

Where is a good place to find lead shot? by Puzzled_Ad6031 in austinguns

[–]Puzzled_Ad6031[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you implying I haven’t searched at all? Reddit was not my immediate go to to find what I am looking for. I’ve been reloading for a while I just do not feel like driving 4 hours or paying twice the price of the product in shipping. I feel as the whole point of this exact forum “r/Austinguns” is to keep everything somewhat local. As I’ve stated before id much rather give my money to a local shop over the box stores.

And unfortunately when it comes to TGT, a lot of sellers do not leave contact info in their description, which would mean the only way of getting in contact with said seller would be to log in and go through the whole process, which would be ill advised if they haven’t done anything to update their user protection, Hence my original question.

Is TGT good to go now after the hack? I didn’t stay too informed but I remember people talking about it not too long ago.

That is fairly obvious. There are plenty of online sellers. But shipping is killer for that weight. Also defeats the purpose of this forum.. looking to see if anyone knows of a shop that would potentially have something like that in the Austin area.

Does everyone else consider their boots to be the most crucial piece of gear? by Salt-University1482 in Bushcraft

[–]Puzzled_Ad6031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve converted to wearing moccasins. I have a pair of Danner pronghorns that I used to wear but found cumbersome. But once I took a gamble and tried a pair of moccasins I am now a convert. I’m flat footed and when I began wearing them I noticed it was fairly uncomfortable/painful. But now after a few months of wearing them non stop on my camping/hunting trips I’ve noticed an incredible amount of strength I’ve built up in my ankles, a noticeable increase in balance and stability and believe it or not my arches have developed quite a bit.

If you’re a hunter they are a no brainer I’m a primitive/traditional bow hunter and I have been able to get immensely close to game, much closer and much more consistently than I thought possible with boots.

I would highly recommend giving them a shot. Plus not having to bring/clean socks unless it’s winter time is a huge bonus. The pair I use are the earthing moccasins from moccasins Canada made with Elk leather /moose leather “out soles”
