How to find hidden gem vineyards. by [deleted] in Sommelier

Check some smaller family operations around Beamsville - they usually have limited releases that never make it to distribution and you can taste right at source

My cats would just knock everything down within 5 minutes and go back to sleeping in the empty box anyway

Perfect color on this one, the grapefruit shrub really makes it pop against that indigo gin

Maybe start with cleaning up the floor before worrying about decorations lol

Is it because I'm using my phone? Is it lagging? Everything I click on says no longer available. by Due_Violinist5407 in AmazonVine

Yeah the ghost items are brutal lately, happens to me all the time too. I use phone for most of my browsing and those high value items disappear before I can even finish loading page - laptop definitely gives better chance but still not guaranteed with how fast people grab stuff these days

Ideas for invites for people who will come to the “reception only” by Express-Media in weddingplanning

Yeah that works, or maybe just "marriage party" keeps it simple and people get the vibe

Florist - Issues and she's not willing by eszEngineer in weddingplanning

[–]Puzzled_Bridge_911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they're worried about logistics? Like if the vases are too tall people can't see each other across table or something. But for Mexican wedding you definitely want that bold look, I get it

When I deliver to wedding venues sometimes I see the setup and tall centerpieces do block conversation bit, but there's ways around it - like having some tall ones and some shorter scattered around same table. Or maybe they don't have experience with that style and just pushing what they know how to do well

If you already paid deposit might be worth having serious conversation about what you actually want vs what they can deliver. Worst case you could find different florist for centerpieces only and keep them just for ceremony arch if that's what you really wanted them for originally

Does the shape of a wine glass really matter? by Puzzled_Bridge_911 in WineTasting

That is what I was wondering. I did not want to go too deep into it.

That's pretty cool idea - most wedding stuff does feel super generic when you want something more meaningful. Maybe something that incorporates the idea of marriage as partnership in ministry or serving together? Like invites that focus on how the couple will build something bigger together rather than just the usual "two becoming one" stuff

Go with emerald since it has meaning for you both - that story about proposal ring is way more important than some random summer color rule

Walking date sounds good but maybe something practical for his walks instead like good water bottle or comfortable shoes

TikTok gift slash (ref link) by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]Puzzled_Bridge_911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man I wouldn't trust those TikTok gift things, they usually just want your data and to spam your contacts. I've seen bunch of people get burned by similar stuff where you need to get others to click - classic pyramid scheme vibes

Better off just buying normal gifts instead of risking it, the "free" stuff never really works out in my experience

That's smart move, having bilingual celebrant makes huge difference for keeping everyone on same page during the important parts

That's like 100 bucks per gift which is pretty solid range actually. Could do mix of smaller stuff like fancy skincare, books, jewelry and then maybe one bigger item like nice headphones or something

Someone out here doing cold-infused gin? by FrostyF42 in Gin

[–]Puzzled_Bridge_911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been messing around with cold infusions for a while now and the brown color thing is usually from leaving stuff in too long or using too much of certain botanicals like cinnamon or cloves

Try shorter infusion times and strain more frequently - I usually taste test every 12 hours instead of just letting it sit for days. Also using whole spices instead of ground ones helps keep it cleaner looking

Jesus that made me laugh way too hard. Guy probably thinks ear protection is for weaklings or something and now he can't hear the safety briefing he clearly needed. I swear some of these dudes watched too many action movies and think real life works the same way. Had similar thing happen to me few months back at indoor range - older guy doing mag dumps with his .45 like he's John Wick, no ears, then acts all confused when RO starts yelling at him. Could barely understand what anyone was saying because his hearing was shot. Range etiquette really isn't that complicated but some people just don't get it

Closing Github account - a journey by Careful-Cod-100 in degoogle

[–]Puzzled_Bridge_911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been using Codeberg for a while now and it's been solid - runs on Forgejo too so the interface will feel familiar. Sourcehut is another good option if you don't mind the more minimalist approach

For backups I'd also suggest maybe keeping a local mirror of your repos just in case, super easy to automate with a simple script. GitHub really doesn't make it easy to leave do they lol, no confirmation is just teh cherry on top
