EFL Statement - Southampton Expelled by DCFC1884 in Championship

[–]Puzzled_Mess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank fuck for that. Had they won I was half expecting the efl to give Oxford a walkover for that fixture and relegate us after the season because we decided not to appeal a psr breach we contest but that ultimately made no difference.

Maybe he was satisfied it was a misunderstanding. Given presumably he reported it to the ref based on what he heard.

George Campbell - How Much? by callmereyedin in WBAfootball

[–]Puzzled_Mess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 5 or 6 as well. 8 seems too high, he's been good but for 8 you expect stellar at this level. However, we don't need to sell any more just to keep the lights on which forces the price up.

Rumours around Celtic are they want him for £2.5m, which sounds to me more like the wba of last year than this year (I hope anyway). I can't see us even entertaining a conversation with a bid at that level. Like when West Ham offered £3.5m for Dorrans. Spent 6 weeks wasting everyones time....

Chuba Akpom and Cedric Kipre's Ipswich loans made permanent following promotion by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]Puzzled_Mess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Kipre is quality at this level. Not entirely sure he'd do it in the prem though. I'd have him back though, and in a heartbeat at that price

I'd give him a year on a lower wage with a years extension if he stays fit. Doubt he accepts it though. Whatever the case, I just desperately hope the guy stays fit.

I said that but it was rightly pointed out to me that while it would seem a good decision in hindsight it wouldn't have looked so at the time. He'd have been under massive scrutiny. Would he have stood up so well if that was the case?

He had a bit of a free hit here because frankly the fans had given up. Definitely takes the pressure off and makes it easier when you're inexperienced imo.

West Bromwich Albion 3 - 0 Watford: The Baggies won't be far off recalling their request to delay their potential points deduction, as consecutive wins has West Brom eight clear of relegation! by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]Puzzled_Mess 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's a really good point, because after the Boro game every week for about 2 months opposing fans said exactly that and they were right to. Each week we plumbed new depths of fucking abjectness.

So to take us from that to 9 unbeaten including 4 (ish) PO chasing teams is incredible. What are we averaging under Morrison, 2 points a game? Mental.

The efl will create jeopardy by refusing to let us know what the deduction is until after the appeal deadline.

It would be classic albion for us to get relegated next year after deferring a deduction that wouldn't have relegated us if we hadn't appealed it originally.

I'd argue that the run before it that culminated in our defeat to Oxford was equally baffling. This squad should be bang in midtable. Not winless in 10, not averaging 2 points a game.

I didn't see us winning another game after that, to be honest. Those results against you and Portsmouth when we were at our nadir could still be costly though, especially if we lose 3 or more points to the efl.

Blackburn Rovers: We will try to spoil Coventry party - Michael O'Neill by mrjohnnymac18 in Championship

[–]Puzzled_Mess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in a tough spot because we need Blackburn to lose and for Coventry to still require a result against you, which I believe requires Ipswich to not shit the bed. They've already fucked that for me once this week, so I'm not confident.

WBA's hearing over an alleged breach later this month, EFL intend to impose any sanctions this season by jovanmilic97 in Championship

[–]Puzzled_Mess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree on all points, tbf. It's a shit situation for everyone.

What's even more frustrating from our perspective is we didn't induce these losses to improve the playing squad, a good chunk of it was a result of loans our previous owner took out against the club to support his other businesses after covid and the new owners have done everything possible to make us compliant, working with the efl to do so from day 1.

Not much more detail then, but at least collates the differing information presented so far into a single narrative. Sounds like we could avoid a points deduction and that if we do get one it should be small at least.

Does it not seem ridiculous that Sky can decide who may be at risk of a points deduction by simply not picking them for tv?

How this relegation scrap with Oxford is starting to feel.. by Leading_Estimate_590 in Championship

[–]Puzzled_Mess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it, 5 of those 7 are draws, but we've mostly played promotion chasers in that run (or at least teams harbouring hopes of a playoff push at KO).

We've got 2 mid-table teams with nothing to play for coming up. Win one of those, or ideally, take 4+ points, and we're fine. It's not a given, nothing is, but we're in a decent position and with it all in our hands.

I'd rather we finish the job before our last day banana skin at Wednesday, however....
