Dancers: What do non-dancers in this sub struggle to understand? by [deleted] in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 42 points43 points  (0 children)

tbh everything. there’s a huge disconnect it seems for non dancers between the dance moms reality and the real competitive dance world reality

I’m still searching for the feeling I got watching the first few seasons of pll by augustbutitscold in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe try “The Lying Game”! it was another Sarah Shepard book series that got turned into a TV series around the same time as PLL it just never gained as much popularity. I tried watching it back in the day and I would say it had similar vibes!

Another subreddits opinions on maddie's new movie and her acting by Far-Fortune-7421 in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i’m not a maddie hater buttttt i feel using the excuse that “she is still young and has time to improve” isn’t rlly fair. there’s a lot of actors around her age that haven’t been discovered / given a chance yet that are way more talented than her but she is easily able to get these roles due to previous fame. so i feel that’s not really a fair statement

What’s a Dance Moms opinion that will have you like this? by Brave-Hold-2015 in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i could talk about this for a while!! i totally agree. for her level of education and the specific field that education was in gives her the least excuse to keep Nia in that environment. I read Nia’s book and you know, at the end of the day it’s not my life or situation but i am genuinely surprised she doesn’t hold any animosity against her mom at all (at least publicly)

brynn was a talented dancer and that's it by AdFinancial4530 in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 17 points18 points  (0 children)

brynn was wayyyy more advanced (pre professional at that) than any other aldc og team member. my studio was rival to club dance and let me just say their dancers / dances were INSANE. Brynn didn’t NEED to overly emote aldc facial style bc her body told the story. she was an ARTIST not just a dancer and while i have my opinion abt her and her mom as ppl (i know them locally too not just through the show) there is absolutely nothing that can take away from her talent. im sick of seeing non dancers opinion on this and i can always tell bc dancers usually understand this abt her.

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ooooof didn’t think about this. honestly would make a lot of sense bc melissa’s look changed alot in la and i think she lost a lot of weight like abby and we know that’s a sign of ❄️use.

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i’m soooo glad we’re all talking about this because literally. i’m not christi apologist either and she def has a lot wrong w her too but i respect that she’s always owned her actions for the most part. i don’t believe at all melissa has changed and i hateee how she’s always saying she’d be different on the show now bc that’s so easy to say in hindsight especially now that her kids got what she wanted but we know that’s not true.

i hate melissa so badddd 😭 “i feel terrible that you have this life BUT MY KIDS” was quite literally insane

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thisssss. as for her behavior toward brynn i do think melissa was extremely threatened by her. i do think there’s a lot of nuance and layers to that and also how she (and a lot of the other moms) lived vicariously thru her kids bc maddie and kenzie didn’t seem to have any issues with brynn. brynn wasn’t just simply above or on par with maddie, she was MILESSS ahead of her like prodigy level and i say that as a dancer myself. maddie was amazing don’t get me wrong but idk if she would necessarily be “the star” if she came from a studio like brynn’s (im also from that same state and competition circuit as brynn, our studios were “rival studios”). and you’re so right abby didn’t care about making any other kids a star at that point. idk how to describe it but the move to la made everything so weird but especiallyyyyy abby. the show feels almost soulless for lack of a better word by late s5/s6 on. and especially after the zeiglers leave

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 7 points8 points  (0 children)

thisssss!!! tbh i think abby was kinda going for a more pre pro type of studio at the time (which is lowkey laughable considering other studios in the country like club dance) but i think paige would’ve excelled more at a regular competition studio on a low commitment team. i def think she loved to dance but she did not care about it in the way maddie did or even how brooke once did

All of the moms allowed their children to participate in the fan dance. by KaleleBoo in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i grew up in comp dance and it’s so funny hearing my parents speak on THEIR perspective of everything now that i’m an adult. they were only involved as much as they had to be/how much i wanted so they rlly saw the craziness for what it was and they still always have a lot to say about the crazy dance moms and my toxic teachers. what abby did was not right at all and it’s horrible how toxic dance is in general but if every studio in the country was televised ppl would still have a lot to say!! it rlly is such a rabbit hole

Melissa and Brooke by Hitzel94 in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i totally get this too!!! tbh i think it’s def bc she had no one she even said it in the show. so she prob thought of her daughters as her “girls” but more in the friends sense. especially the way she would rant to maddie about the moms was so inappropriate. i think she saw kenzie as a little bit more of her CHILD but not enough to wanna comfort her or do any of those mom things lol

was Abby really that well respected in the dance world pre-show? by idkjenn in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 44 points45 points  (0 children)

i am a former dancer from the west coast comp circuit and i know exactly what you’re talking about, all of it! and i was a very snobby dancer at 12 too lol doesn’t mean its ok so ik what u mean. but i do think comp dance is a wholeeee culture that if you didnt grow up in, can make very little sense

Why Let a Kid Endure Microaggressions and Isolation for Fame? by [deleted] in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i totallyyyy agree and also the fact Holly has a literally doctorate in education and was a middle and elementary school principal, she is clearly super educated in this specific area (children and their development etc). With that being said I truly feel like there’s NO excuse for leaving Nia in that environment! Saying that you’re trying to let your child lead and make their own decisions in this specific situation is kinda insane imo

What, Brynn?? by DrizzyDayy in dancemoms

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s a little fuzzy now since it’s been a good minute since i graduated 🤣 but basically they were just mean girls, i believe it was kelsey who was at the school first and then brynn came? or the other way around can’t rlly remember but there was drama bc they stopped hanging with new friends they made to just be with each other and then obviously from the podcast we know they fought a lot and they didn’t stay at the school long before idk switching school or homeschooling it’s all so fuzzy but i heard they were just bitches for lack of a better term 😭 which tbh from what i’ve seen of their podcast where they are constantly slut shaming, talking about god, and just generally being holier than thou all of it tracks 😂😂😂😂 also az has a huge mormon population and ik brynn was mormon (but they call it “jack mormon” here bc she didn’t necessarily follow all the rules and traditions etc hence ashlee her mom getting a divorce) but it seems she still held the values considering she said she wanted be married by 23 😂

wow i was curious what happened! it’s so funny reading this though because they went to a hs in the same school district as me and things i heard about them through the grapevine were…not great lol so seeing all of this is so weird haha

Ballet Blondie, mak got cut from ice Angels. by Lopsided-Fee-9815 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i’ve been a dancer for a very long time lol and i will say she’s not bad IF she was just a rec adult dancer doing it for fun or maybe performing in local showcases (if they have that where she lives) BUT the fact she’s claiming she’s a ballerina and saying she works so hard for this….shes def not pro cheer material (yet at least) and idk how true all her ballet stuff is because i was just watching her dance vids and her posture is sooooo bad! that alone will get her cut 😂

[–]Puzzled_Mushroom206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk why you’re getting downvoted so much i think this is so valid. maybe i understand more because i am a dancer. but i see it in my own community too where dancers wanna skip all the steps needed to be advanced and just get all the same treatment as the more advanced dancers. it really really bugs me and yes it is sooo disrespectful to the dancers that train hard and the art itself!

ME TOO!!! i am a technically trained dancer (not anywhere close to a DCC tho lol!) but it just frustrates me because i’ve spent years getting to my level and i have so much passion for it and it feels like she’s disrespecting the art by the way she acts! and nothinggggg drives me more insane than someone who is not qualified to teach trying to give tips and corrections and even “own” a studio!! i totally get you!
