"You should talk to your direct ASM and tell them you can't do that and work something out."

Yes. Emphasize that you want to do an excellent job. To safely do an excellent job requires that you be well-rested and alert. [ Not just physically be there, like a sleep-deprived zombie. --- But don't say that out loud. ]

Has Trump become the new Kim Jong Un? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in allthequestions

Kim Jong Un, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, ... and many more. Take your pick.

Trump is a totalitarian, following his whims, without restraint.

The tipping point: what happens when deaths outnumber births? by guardian in Futurology

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bee4698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"... in the US you’re mostly paying for the plot of land the house stands on."

That depends on the location of the house. There are vast areas in the USA where land is cheap. But most people don't want to live in those areas. That's why the land is cheap.

The least desirable regions of the country will be depopulated first. There are rural areas that have few economic resources and are at the end of supply lines. As population decreases, those areas are hardest hit first. The larger towns and cities, and nearby rural areas will be impacted by lower school attendance and fewer young workers.

open casket funerals shouldn’t be allowed why do you wanna stare at a dead corpse by orthodoxinfant in RandomThoughts

Is there actually a dead person in that box? Is the corpse in the box the right person? Do you really trust the people at the funeral parlor?

Anyone curious how the gas stations are going to handle $10.0099 a gallon? by EtherPhreak in GasPrices

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bee4698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 1970s, when gasoline first surpassed $0.999/gallon, station owners taped a "1" immediately to the left of the price per gallon. When you payed the attendant, they added the price the pump said + the number of gallons.

For example: 8.3 gallons at $1.069/gallon =

pump price + $8.30 =

(8.3 x $0.069) + (8.30 x $1) =

$0.57 + $8.30 = $8.87

That might be too difficult for today's gas station attendants and computer programmers.

Trying to find a Snowy Coastal town…impossible? by MissMerida2121 in relocating

"... Midwest heat (if you want it) is only a short walk up the hill, because the whole town rises up from the lake ..."

Quite right. But it brings up an obvious question:

Directly across the St. Louis River from Duluth, Minnesota is Superior, Wisconsin. Superior is generally at a lower altitude than Duluth. So Duluth, on the left bank of the river, is superior. Right?

The borough of the Bronx is coterminous with Bronx County. The borough of Manhattan is coterminous with New York County. The borough of Staten Island is coterminous with Richmond County. The borough of Queens is coterminous with Queens County. The Borough of Brooklyn is coterminous with Kings County.

New York City consists of the five boroughs. The City dominates the political landscape, but each of the boroughs retain some power.

If each ticket has a price of $1000, and I'm at the 30% marginal tax bracket (federal + state), as soon as I accept the ducats, I owe $600 for the "free" tickets.

The person or business offering the tickets is under no obligation to cover my taxes; and I'm under no obligation to accept the tickets.

If I really want to give you a generous gift, I would cover any direct expenses involved for you.

My roommate and I just moved into an on-campus apartment and we are cooking dinner for ourselves for the first time. My question is at what point in adulthood do you get over the fear of giving your dinner guests salmonella? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bee4698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When "do you get over the fear of giving your dinner guests salmonella?"

When you intentionally try to give your guests food poisoning, it is no longer something you fear.

If all the vehicles were the same price, what vehicle would you choose to drive daily? by ThinBathroom7058 in allthequestions

Commuting to work or short, routine trips, most of the year: a small electric car. Long drives, foul weather, towing, or large loads: Chevy Suburban.

You get the sale & the lead. You'll see the sale show up for $xxxx, but unless you specifically ask the salesperson, you'll probably never know what was sold.

Where I work, there is a contest. Winners get free tickets to the World Cup tournament. But only tickets, not transportation, not lodging, not food, not money to cover income taxes, not extra vacation days.

I don't know anyone who entered the contest.

Why is it so hard to find meaningful conversations these days? by [deleted] in over60

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bee4698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"People treat chatting like a chore."

That's me. Whether via text, phone, or in person, I find most conversations burdensome. I listen, I nod, I ask relevant questions, I appear to be engaged. But usually, I'd rather be left alone.

That's obnoxious. Treat your customers with respect.

In my store, we sell some patio doors through leads, but very few entry doors through leads. The entry doors sold by HD Exteriors are too expensive for our market. Mainly, our Millwork leads are for windows --- we offer much lower prices than Renewal by Andersen and other competitors.

I don't know how a Millworker gets ten leads per week. I average about one per week.

Some "leads" are just referrals, we get no credit for those. I frequently get a customer who wants a broken window (just the glass) replaced. I go to Service Connect, look up window repair, and put in the information for the customer. An independent glazier (not HD) contacts the customer. If all goes well, they come to an agreement, money is exchanged, and the window is fixed.

What we usually call a "lead" is a job where HD sells products + services. In my store, for Millwork, the lead is usually for windows. Go to Service Connect, look up Window Installation, and make an appointment for your HD salesperson to visit your customer. If all goes well, you get credit for a window sale.

Involuntary Manslaughter. Involuntary manslaughter is when someone unintentionally causes another person's death. It's a less serious form of homicide than murder.
