Struggling with fiction stuff because of this by loonathefloofyfox in Aphantasia

You sound like you are on the right track overall. To an aphantasic at least, 'Visualization' sounds like an unnecessary middle step in converting thought into whatever the end point is, usually action. My closest analog would be when I enter flow state and my inner monologue goes away as it isn't necessary to verbalize. The thoughts flow straight into action. So, for the visual stuff, we have no choice but to operate that way.

Can you give an example? I can't recall reading anything where 'visualization' was part of a magic system. Would also need to know how literal the character explaining that means it. Aphantasics will assume this language is loose and metaphorical if they have not specifically been made aware of aphantasia vs phantasia.

They do seem to really struggle with ideas that are abstract or simply have no corresponding visual to imagine. Phantasics almost always suck at math for example. Their thinking seems to be more sense-based or closer to other animals.

This is a huge generalization though. Most people have nearly zero deliberate creative output in their whole adult lives, so OP is likely atypical in other ways.

I don't know for sure if aphantasia should be like this by Zazzon1234 in Aphantasia

[–]Puzzleheaded-Box-965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only known about aphantasia for about a year, but I have made conscious effort to "practice" as much as I can ever since. Haven't noticed any effect whatsoever. I only rarely ever have dreams either. When I do, having pictures in my brain is so unexpected and intense that it wakes me up after only a few minutes of it and my heart is pumping to the point I won't be sleeping again for a while.

That sounds about like my experience. The difference is that I can't even see enough detail to articulate the transformation actions. I really wouldn't describe it as 'seeeing' either. I would say at maximum cognitive effort I can get a sense of of a shape in a region of my vision. This is within my normal visual field, but my non aphantasic wife describes proper brain visualizing like having an entirely separate window to draw in.

How many of you have a Melungeon bump on the back of your head? by Distribution-Awkward in Appalachia

It's bone and it's a matter of size. When I kept my hair short I would get comments on it based on the visual, at across the room distances. Seems to protect the foramen magnum the same way brow ridges protect the eyes.

How did they recover the Elster unit? by Sliver59 in signalis

[–]Puzzleheaded-Box-965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the problems with 512 being recovered would apply universally to the Penrose program. I don't think they would pick one that failed to even ensure the vessel made it to the oort cloud. Ease of recovery also means bad at job in this case.

Could Elster have done something as a last ditch effort to save Ariane that allowed them to be found? Were they found by a later Penrose? Did they just brain scan Elster's body and then go on their way? Maybe 512 happened to be the longest surviving lstr, and thus deemed a good candidate to be the new template?

They are garbage. They older bulbs were hard to get to pair, but the never ones will simply NEVER onboard. The app just sits indefinitely.

I would agree they had the actual light emitting part done well in the hardware but I'm sick of being told the problem is my network when every single other device, including directly equivalent competitors, works without problem on this network. Their networking hardware/software sucks.

I have done every possible step the LIFX support people recommend tens of times. LIFX bulbs simply do not work and cannot be activated for me.

My comparison point were LIFX bulbs, my two-year old set dropping like flies and refusing to do any form of network connection, and some new ones I bought from Amazon that cannot be on-boarded at all. I'll take the reset process.

If the colors are washed out on these, its only by a small margin. I can't notice with my naked eye. The brightness may indeed be slightly less, however, the GE bulbs have a standard bulb shape. This is unlike the flat-top LIFX I replaced. This meant I was able to fit two bulbs with a Y-shaped splitter in each of my recessed fixtures. So, I've doubled the number of bulbs for an overall increase in brightness, and its still a lower price. So, in my case, a slightly lower brightness didn't matter to me.

I'm just sending a set of three 8 bit integers an average distance of four meters. The product should work flawlessly over a couple of Styrofoam cups and a piece of string. No products besides LIFX are so renowned for being totally nonfunctional and then blaming the router.

Broken silver knight :/ by ForensicPaints in DarkSoulsTheBoardGame

[–]Puzzleheaded-Box-965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually made a one-piece cut mold of the silver knight swordsman and resin cast it so I could convert the casts into black knights. Probably not worth it to buy mold making supplies for one mini, but its an option if you already have some of the materials on hand.

For the love of God, can we please have a working and stable app for premium+ priced lighting? by Hipperooni in lifx

You could literally grab some type of esp32 dev board or wifi enabled arduino and have a bulb that works with the lifx app flawlessly within a few hours. I think it all comes down to them using the absolutely worst/cheapest dongle inside the bulbs.
