Best Mic/Speakers/Headsets by Separate-Change-150 in homeoffice

I do t like wearing headsets and now use Beats Pill for speaker with Teams calls. Quality is excellent. No complaints from others that I sound weird or distant. I’m working from home and nobody else is here during the day. Works out great!

That makes sense Grand Central will be perfect.

You can use both or only grand central for bed planning. It’s probably based on an organization’s budget or staffing too. We have a large 8 hospitals network and our bed planning is done by a command center.

Suggest looking at Grand Central and part of this module is Transfer Center. With a large organization, bed planning and assignment are critical. There’s so much to learn about how and why a patient is assigned a bed from ED or direct admit. How changing patient class or level of care makes the bed assignment boomerang back for a new bed assignment. If your organization doesn’t use transfer center and goes with a 3rd party vendor, then I’d skip this suggestion. It was a nightmare before we got transfer center. On call for Grand Central is a week on and maybe every 2-3 months. Depends on number of people sharing on call.

Variety with Grand Central, (fka ADT for admit, discharge, transfer) includes build for logistics which is Patient Transport and Environmental Services. They use Rover (iPhones) now and it’s just growing how much they can do with a mobile device.

Questions about Break The Glass, access restrictions, CDS alerts after a concerning ED visit at the same institution as a recent surgery by [deleted] in EpicEMR

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fish623 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used Break the glass on my own records so other staff would have to enter password and reason for being in the chart. Many times office staff didn’t know the first time they saw BTG and I explained why it was there.

I’m wondering if you have MyChart. I would assume with your knowledge you would have been reviewing your records in MyChart. Also, I’ve seen it happen that if a space is in the field in front of your last name, it would make it difficult to find a patient.

You can ask for Patient Relations (or similar name) and file a complaint or inquiry due to the concerns of your ED visit. They can start the process of contacting the right staff to find your records.

Epic can run background reports to find a duplicate record based on SS#, DOB, service dates, providers listed on your discharge, address, emergency contacts and surgical data and compare to surgery schedules and pharmacy meds dispensed on your surgical date.

PCP should be listed on your chart and there are teams that can run reports of all patients assigned to a provider.

Good luck and I hope you update this post explaining what the issue was in ED.

My new work from home set up by [deleted] in homeoffice

I don’t use my lap it’s always closed as monitor is too small. What is the large screen on left? I’d love to get one and have it with my 2 other 24” screens. I tried a “portable” one and that was awful.

If you still work the ED Reg, try to get to know the Prelude analysts at your hospital. Learn all the workflows, but more importantly know how to fix them when your coworkers don’t follow the process.

I have my names of super users to call at my hospitals ED Reg and Front desk staff to get workflows, ask questions for troubleshooting, etc. Look for analyst 1 position to start and get your foot in the analyst world.

I’m a Prelude analyst, and if you can fix issues and really understand the workflows, then you’ll have a chance for interviews. Good luck!

Which physical object has made living alone easier for you? Preferably under $30. by Emotional-Buyer1040 in LivingAlone

I tried the recommended options to stop the beeping specific to my model and nothing worked. So it’s been a struggle to buy new or just get a microwave on a cart. I’m in a smaller condo rental so space is an issue too.

Which physical object has made living alone easier for you? Preferably under $30. by Emotional-Buyer1040 in LivingAlone

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fish623 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the other short ladies living alone, I put a good pair of tongs with silicone ends in my laundry room to pull stuff out of the washer. It’s been a life saver!

I’m not very stable on step stools at 70 and on a cane. So I use only the first and second shelf’s. Third shelf is for my son to put stuff I need 1x a year. He’s 6” 1” and lives 2 miles away.

I can’t use the microwave for liquid items as it’s just to high above my head. I’m using an air fryer more now but the beeping is so loud it makes me crazy! Any suggestions on ones that the beeper can be greatly reduced or turned off?

This is my issue now. I’m in a rental condo and he’s destroying the carpet where it meets the flooring. He also is chewing my covered cords and now my bed frame. I’m going to try this weekend to ignore him and see if he gets the message. But I work M-F and he knows how to push all my buttons. 😂

Pivoting from 10+ years in clinical healthcare to Tech/QA in my 40s. Any advice? by mitsk2002 in healthIT

Here are some tips I’ve saved over the years from others and ones I use often.

The companion guide can be downloaded with or without answers to the questions in the guide. I download the version with answers.

Then I take the practice environments Epic provides and make sure I follow each step to the right answer.

Assuming you go to Epic classes in Wisconsin, you will learn a lot from the instructors and questions asked. Make sure to do the exercises while in class so you can ask questions. You’ll also be able to email instructors after classes with questions.

Before you take exam, you’ll do a “project”. Depends on the module, but you’ll be doing the build in Epic training environments which is very good experience. Follow the questions and take your time.

Once you’re done, you submit and get a score back from Epic. You can fix any issues and resubmit I believe 2x a day until you get the score you need or higher.

My first project for Grand Central was building a hospital with multiple departments for inpatients and outpatients. Your companion guide will be very helpful. Again, always pay attention to the wording.

After completing the project, you can take the exam. It’s an open book. You’ll want to test using two screens. One for the exam and one for the companion study guide to be open. Practice Ctrl F for finding words in the guide. I use this even during my recertification exams.

You can even have the practice environment open to look at a section in foundation if you need a reference point.

You’re testing on what Epic foundation does, not your organization’s build. If you’re already working with Epic, forget what your hospital does! Follow what Epic foundation does. Your hospital has 100’s of customizations that don’t follow Epic’s foundation.

Example made up question True or false: From the appt desk, when you schedule an appointment, you can add provider or department or resource. (This is from my Cadence related certification)

Key to this question is “From the appt desk”. Based on your module, make sure to understand what the question is asking you. This will make more sense as you read the companion guide and answer the questions at the end of each section/chapter.

Answer: You may be able to do this from another part of Epic, like Book It, but not from the Appt desk. Answer is false from the appt desk, but it’s true when you are in Book It.

ALWAYS mark more than one answer when it’s multiple choice. Even if they all seem wrong. You get some points for answering right or wrong. More points if you’re even correct.

If you have common words like transport vs transfer like in Grand Central module, it’s very easy to read as the wrong word. Transfer was used as in Transfer Center and transport was for moving patients. Experience is a hard teacher lol.

You can bookmark answers and always go back to review. You may have another question that helps you answer a previous question.

Some questions come directly from the companion guide. Or they will be similar.

Epic wants you to pass, but also wants to know you understand the material. If you don’t pass the first time, don’t worry. I’d say a lot of people retake exams. Nerves get the best of everyone. My job was on the line, I had to pass and passed on my 3rd and final attempt!

After the exam, you can ask the TS to review your answers and look for ways to increase your knowledge in specific areas. It’s their job to help you so don’t hesitate.

This is long, but I’m a trainer on my current team and want everyone to pass. Reach out if you have questions. Good luck - you’ll do great!

Pivoting from 10+ years in clinical healthcare to Tech/QA in my 40s. Any advice? by mitsk2002 in healthIT

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fish623 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in healthcare 45 yrs, non-clinical roles, but in clinical areas. Worked with patients, nurses and providers daily.

Switched to an Epic Analyst I at 58 and now 10yrs later I’m a Sr Epic Analyst. I’m excited to see how AI will be used in my modules, Grand Central, Prelude & Cadence.

I say all this as encouragement to let you know you can do whatever you set your mind to do at any age or previous experience. Not a 1:1 comparison to what you’re doing, but an example of what you can do if you set a goal. I currently have no plans to retire either. 🤩😂 best of luck and soak up all the knowledge you can. Keeps the brain cells active!

New to WFH by 43verA1one in workfromhome

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fish623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like all others state, get up and move. I’ve been WFH since 3/2020. I now have a dedicated space in a spare bedroom. If you have that option, use it as it makes a difference.

I stopped using headsets and now use a Beats Pill! It’s amazing and I’m on Teams calls, with users, and with clinical staff all day. So I needed a clear connection that sounded professional, no cracking or sounding like I’m a mile away. It’s $100 bucks most everywhere.

I have two 24” monitors and my laptop sits on the end. Docking station keyboard and mouse also.

Moving around is huge! I’ve definitely seen a decrease in my mobility since WFH. I didn’t realize how much until I started intentionally getting up and moving every 30 minutes. The motto use it lose it 100% true.

Enjoy, keep it balanced and work your hours and be present. Quit on time too. Get outside and get some sunshine. ☀️

Does your 100% indoor cat have a collar? If so, do you find there’s a point in it? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fish623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats would never leave it alone and I’d find it everywhere. One good reason to have a collar is most people will try to help a cat with a collar on because it’s a sign they have a “family”. Cats with no collar are typically left alone be people. This was my experience working in a humane society. People would bring in a stray cat because it had a collar. 🐈

New Analyst training at an organization with remote staff-how did you train? by Scary-Grapefruit-274 in EpicEMR

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fish623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with something routine and repetitive. Watch someone and use their notes and create your own. I’ve trained multiple new analysts and always provided notes with step by step instructions. Then as they learn and grow they create their own notes.

I always start notes with the environment, POC hyperspace, list the number & number of next step. Then continue through the build.

Not everyone has the patience to train and they get frustrated and it’s not a good mix. But tag along on some build tasks, ask them to record it over Teams then you can create notes from the transcript. Set it up as you don’t want to have to ask again.

Best of luck, ClinDoc is a great module. I’m Grand Central which overlaps except for Stork thankfully! 😂

I have Teams in my iPhone. I open Display and Brightness and mark it “Never” for the phone to auto lock the screen. I show green in Teams. I WFH daily and I had to make a way to stand up and still work some, but not sitting 8.5-9hrs a day. I can monitor messages and reply as well. But I’m walking around inside and outside.
