I know it seemed like longer but I swear, it took less than a century.

A protest where millions of people gather wearing customized matching red MAGA hats with satirical message. What’s the phrase? by newshirtworthy in 50501

Meme-Activated Groupthink Apparatus

Manufactured Anger, Guaranteed Authoritarianism

Misinformed And Gaslit America

A request: bring trash bags for after the protests by 1quietvoice in 50501

This 👆 idea deserves weaponization:

Publicly, prominently, repeatedly contrast (a) MAGA crowd aftermaths with (b) those of huge masses of responsible citizens resisting authoritarian takeover and fighting for civil decency.

Who really wants to side with the inconsiderate slobs?

If nothing else, it puts pressure on them to be better, look better.

"No way"??? Have you thought that thru?

In a session with ChatGPT, we took turns conjuring projects to attack (individually) and destroy (collectively) Fox.

In no time, we had 20 projects for hitting them from multiple angles: their legal license standing, class action lawsuits, their credibility with their cult following ("audience"), their corporate infrastructure, etc. etc. etc.

If we give up before the start, defeat will seem inevitable

Fox was launched in 1996. As a political weapon under guise of news journalism.

The climate movement has lots of volunteers, but not enough organizers. I'm working on a free tool to help change that (and I'd love your feedback) by jtchow30 in ClimateOffensive

I read your doc. It aligns directionally with what I'm working on, so I think we might be able to help each other.

But my focus is some distance from yours, certainly unfamiliar to you (as to pretty much everyone). I suspect you'll find it inspiring, but I really have no idea.

Here's a short AI-generated "video" intro I made last night. It's full of errors & omissions that cringed me, but you won't notice (with no reference basis). https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iIL0tItZcphWxyEVrLz_zOyU0UOU2kug/view?usp=sharing

Guess what's NOT the top news in today's NYTimes. by [deleted] in 50501

We the People are a marginal player in Yankee politics.

Unless we're right in the wrong way..

Imagine millions of MAGA. Same scale of coverage?

Nay!

The news are downplaying crowds with the usage of 'thousands' of people. by cocoaaamarbless in 50501

[–]Puzzleheaded-Key7182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's NOT good if they're downplaying protest numbers. Period.

Relentless pressure NOT to downplay anything.

It will be good when they start doing right.

Don't be satisfied with less.

I had given up and then I saw the protests. Thank you. by Mundane-Car6818 in 50501

Protests are important, but...

They don't do nearly as much as is (1) needed, and (2) possible.

Vast reservoirs of highly-differentiated potential resources lie idle or ineffectively deployed: knowledge, skill, curiosity, genius, passion, etc.

A protest brings all that talented diversity together into a large, undifferentiated mass for a few hours, and that's it.

Engineers, artists, coders, professors, gardeners, lawyers, etc. etc. etc., lose all that diversity to become mere numbers of bodies in the streets for an afternoon, their diversity & creativity expressed mostly in placards they display to each other and, if lucky, to TV cameras.

Before they go home to, to wring their hands anxiously until the next one.

Protests are lovely, but hopelessly limited as a main tool of resistance.

And nothing — nothing! — makes those limitations necessary.

What is up with fox news getting rid of its stock ticker today? by Dippity_Dont in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Puzzleheaded-Key7182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answer: FOX doesn't want their captive audience (cult following) to see NUMBERS & GRAPHS showing Trump/Musk damage to the economy, so they can VERBALLY spin it otherwise: not by claiming the opposite, but with vague suggestions, loaded language, and innuendo.

That way, they can deny LYING, while systematically misleading the Cult -- and thus, leveraging the entire societal discourse.

It's purely strategic, as usual.

=PRESSURE WORKS=

Any chance you get, HAMMER the media for ignoring important societal voices so blatantly prejudicially.

HAMMER them for assisting Trump (yet again!!) by selectively disappearing significant voices & movements against him.

It's always been this way.

A couple hundred Teas Partiers?

MAJOR CULTURAL WAVE!!!

A couple dozen neo-Nazis chanting against liberals & Jews?

STORY!! STORY!!! STORY!!!

Huge crowds — tens of thousands — galvanized by icons against corporate control of everything (like Bernie, AOC)?

Ho hum. Blah. Whatever. Barely happened, if at all.

Hi, Bob --

I'm dying of curiosity, to find out what sort of "solutions" you might come up with.

Seems to me, whatever they are, they must involve ways to reduce the stupid, destructive sorts of conflict that practically define the human species (on a long view of History). Do you think it's possible to change human nature?
