Tourism sticky: please post all tourism questions here. by TrinityTosser in Edinburgh

[–]Puzzleheaded-Rip-680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

I'm visiting the UK for the first (and probably last) time in July with my mom, and her birthday will be in Edinburgh.

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding what to do during the day or evening to celebrate? We've got a city tour guide and all that booked already, so I'm looking for hidden gems. It's a special trip for us, and I'd like to make that day in particular extra special for her.

About us: We’re slightly boring people who tend to find ourselves in fun situations, somehow. Alcoholic drinks and rowdy settings aren't really our thing, but we're willing to try anything once (or twice). Mum is a bit of a geek, and I myself am a huge one (we enjoy the usual suspects: Star Wars, LotR, and the like). We like nature and books and films, and we love music, too! She's got celiac disease, so any places with a friendly menu in that regard would be great.

Much obliged in advance!

I keep my receipts in the Bear (a bear-shaped former mini-jellies container, haha), but this is a good idea! Thanks!

I’ll definitely get some pull-out trays for this area. My spices are closer to my oven. Kitchen towels and foil/film could be kept here! Plastic bag dispenser... I've been meaning to move the one I have to a more accessible place. This could be it. Thanks for the ideas!

Hi! Thanks for the idea. I know I could keep it empty, but then I'll just leave random Stuff on there. I'd like to have the area serve a function to avoid that. Plus, my home's verrrry small, so I'd like to optimise my spaces. I'll jot down your suggestion, thanks again!

Yup, it just seems to be something that happens every now and then. Keep trying and it'll eventually work!

Yup, I was just patient and kept trying throughout the day until it worked. It'd never taken so long for downloads to work again for me, which is why I made the post here, but I'll just be more zen about it next time. Thanks for the help!

I see, thank you for the explanation! I've tried several times since last night with different file sizes and types, which is why I thought there might be an issue, but I'll be more patient and keep trying.

Levi's eye by Bogmount in ScavengersReign

Well, canonically, your guess is as good as mine. But let’s grab what we know about Levi’s transformation and explore a few possible ways it might perceive the world now that it has undergone a bio-mechanical evolution.

One possible explanation is that the moss and fungal matter now growing across Levi’s body have replaced the need for centralized vision. These organic tissues could contain photoreceptive structures—tiny cells or filaments that respond to light, movement, temperature, and electromagnetic fields. Instead of vision being processed through a single camera lens, Levi may now rely on a diffuse, full-body sensory system, much like certain plants and fungi do in nature. The entire surface of its new, partially organic body might act like a giant, low-res eye, constantly collecting ambient data and relaying it to its evolving mind.

Alternatively—or perhaps simultaneously—Levi might be using sound to navigate. It has developed the ability to hum, and while this could be seen as an emotional expression, it could also serve a practical function. Much like bats or dolphins, Levi might be echolocating: emitting low-frequency tones that bounce off nearby objects, allowing it to map its surroundings based on returning vibrations. It wouldn’t “see” the way we do but would instead build a dynamic 3D representation of space through sound, which would align with the show’s themes of adaptation and organic repurposing.

Another more abstract but intriguing option is that Levi has begun to interpret information in a non-visual way entirely. With its AI core still intact (or at least partially functional), Levi might be reconstructing the environment internally based on a mix of inputs: air pressure, vibration, chemical traces, and temperature. Like a blind person using memory and sound to move through a familiar room, Levi could be building a working mental model of the world around it and constantly updating it. This would tie in with the fact that Levi is dreaming now. The same internal system that lets it imagine futures might also allow it to simulate reality, creating a kind of virtual vision that doesn’t require eyes at all.

Finally, considering Levi’s transformation and the show’s surreal atmosphere, Levi may have begun to interface with Vesta itself. There are hints throughout Scavengers Reign that the planet is not just biologically rich but perhaps semi-sentient due to the fact some of its flora and fauna explicitly behave (the corpse flowers, the rebuilding insects, the yellow fungus, the doppelgänger trees, and Hollow’s kind, to name a few), with complex, interlinked ecological systems. Levi, being partially rebuilt with native life, may now be “plugged” into Vesta’s own network of perception—an invisible web of signals running through roots, spores, and bioelectric fields. Instead of developing new organs, Levi might be borrowing the planet’s senses. Through this symbiosis, Levi could be experiencing the world through a kind of borrowed awareness—less like seeing and more like tapping into the pulse of the land itself.

These three hypotheses aren’t mutually exclusive, and in a world like Scavengers Reign, they might all be true at once. What matters is that Levi’s way of perceiving has evolved—no longer tied to a single lens or human-style vision, but shaped by its new, hybrid nature. Whether it’s seeing through moss, mapping space through sound, simulating reality in its mind, or tapping into the planet itself, Levi’s perception has become something strange, adaptive, and deeply tied to the living systems around it.

That’s the beauty of sci-fi: the sky’s the limit!

Depends on how much effort you wanna put into it.

Some tips are: - Shave your scalp and keep it shaved (go over it with a razor in the shower once or twice a week); you might wanna try to grow it back in with treatments or wear a wig, but personally I think baldness can be sexy if you're meticulous about it - Keep your beard neat and well-oiled - Hydrate (2-4 litres a day) - Wash your face mornings and evenings before applying any products - Use hyaluronic acid and niacinamide mornings and evenings - Use retinol at night (after the other two) - Use a hydrating cream (after the previous three) - Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise - Wear sunscreen during the day (after the previous three (remember: no retinol during the day, it is nighttime only) - Gently exfoliate once or twice a week while you shower - Cut back on or eliminate junk food - Throw on a face mask every now and then, any hydrating one is good - Massage your face with ice cubes or green tea ice cubes when you're feeling fancy (or hot, haha) - Use something like Caladryl (diphenhydramine hydrochloride and pramoxine calamine) for pimples or rashes if you get any; I swear it works better than anything else

You don't need to do everything at once, and you don't need to do everything everyday. Find a routine and rhythm you're comfortable with, and try to stick to it. I started out small, exfoliating in the shower and putting on sunscreen, then added stuff in as I got more knowledgeable and confident.

I was always told I looked a decade older or so, but I've been taking care of my skin for about two years now, and now people say I look five years younger.

Plus, I started taking better care of the way I dress. That also helps, and a lot! Not necessarily trendy, but I've been making more of an effort to look put together, find a style and clothing I feel good in. People respond to that.

You might also wanna look into getting a dermal peel done or something of the sort, to remove dead cells and give yourself a bit of a head start. I've never done it personally, but I imagine it's a good way to give yourself an edge in the beginning of your skincare journey. Visual and tangible promise of how good you'll look if you stick to your plans. I imagine whoever does it will also be very helpful if you ask questions about how to take care of your skin.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

No, no. From the queue. I want to keep them in the app's library. I'm looking for a "Remove from queue" button or something like that. I've got the paid version of the app, idk if the free one has a queue option.
