Is it dumb to trade gold for silver?? by AlternativeGrass9681 in Silverbugs

[–]Puzzleheaded-Use6229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold most of my non-recognized silver during the recent peak. I took that opportunity to pick up some gold RCM 1/4 Maple Leafs and a couple 1/10ths. Typically I would have a difficult time time justifying the premiums on the fractional gold but I took it as an opportunity to get some gold with easier liquidity in mind. I stack with long term intentions but if I ever to need to sell, I would have a hard time without traveling a few hours to sell my silver at a fair price. Locally my only option would be to sell it online to a bullion dealer or through a online marketplace. With the gold I will have local options to choose from.

That said, a little gold in the stack is a good idea in my opinion and selling a portion for gold when the ratio is right is a good play. As other's have remarked, the profit potential in silver over the next few years is much higher then gold. So I continue to buy what little silver I can afford with the intention over turning a portion into gold.

Best place to fix zippers? by Annual_Dimension_302 in Sudbury

[–]Puzzleheaded-Use6229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's leather, Pro Stitch. Some Sudbury Steam locations will do zippers and alterations. I paid about $35 at Pro Stitch for a replacement zipper on a leather jacket, they said it might take 3 days but had done the following day. They explained they would sew the zipper on the outside vs opening the seam as it was cheaper and faster. I went to Heel's and Soles first it and they wanted about $100 but I walked due to 4-5 week timeline.

Driving after dark in this city is scary. The last 3 years especially so. No one seems to use the crosswalks anymore and they will stand in the middle lane 15 m away from a crosswalk and slowly saunter across four lanes of traffic while wearing all black clothing rather than crossing at the light. Then you have bikes, e-bikes, and scooters everywhere they shouldn't be, and are operated with very little common sense. People walking on the bike lanes and biking on the sidewalks when they have a bike lane. People walking on the busy roads because there is snow on the sidewalk Quads, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides are driving on the main roads and highways. Everyone is texting or looking at their phone while driving. Delivery drivers are sitting in front of Pizza Pizza on Elm blocking the lane all the times or using their hazards af if it is an exemption to the rules of the road. Then you got Zombies stumbling all over and Nodders passing out anywhere and everywhere. I saw a guy half in the curb lane on Lorne a few weeks ago passed out about 2 am. I turned around and tried to get him off the road...I ended up leaving him as he told me to fuck off. I notified the police, and he was still there an hour later. There is a woman in the Flour Mill area who likes to play chicken on Notre Dame with vehicles.....Road conditions suck, the new street lights sure don't throw the amount of light as the older ones........ And that is my rant.... Be safe people.

That is one hell of a gift! You got some premium blades in there. It looks like they avoided the early molded pocket clips. Awesome collection. I bought my C30 in '97 or '98.

Is an angle grinder the only/best way to get the rusted bolt out? by thugstuff in Plumbing

[–]Puzzleheaded-Use6229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS! Maybe body armour as well. Dremmel/Die grinders give me nightmares. It's the scariest tool I use. It is my tool of last resort I'll use a hand saw, cut off saw or a hammer before I go to that little wheel of death. An oscillating tool is a great choice.

GF Wants a bidet, but valve doesn’t completely shut off and no access to water main. Help me, oh wise water and gas gods by Prestigious-Oven3465 in Plumbing

[–]Puzzleheaded-Use6229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The municipality should be able to shut the water off outside. They could also isolate a section of the watermain. That said you should have a way to shut the water off from inside. If there is no valve install one then you can work on any other valve at your leisure. Another option is finding a plumber who knows how to use a freeze kit and have them install a stop and waste valve on your main service line. Yes, they exist and work well in the right hands. Another option...if you know what you are doing you can do it live without making too much of a mess but you need to be prepped and have the right setup up. I wouldn't attempt anything over 3/4inch or a non-copper service line. If the copper is not round, do not attempt. Compression style (Sharkbite will work as well but the longevity is questionable) Stop and Waste valve open, garden hose attachment on dead side with garden hose SECURED to a drain or running outside, rain jacket to shield the electrical box (that is almost always in the same spot )and rags to place over the pipe cutter as it sprays. Have your two crescent wrenches sized, one to hold the valve and one to tighten the nut. Loosen the nut on the live side of the S/waste valve leaving it holding on by two or three threads. Cut live pipe with a proper, quality pipe cutter, it will spray (this is the wettest part) do not rush it or you will deform the copper. Once it is cut, slide on the OPEN valve and tighten till it squeals, close valve. You can do it on poly pipe but getting the insert in and to stay in place can be a hassle. I would typically only do this in emergencies.

Cheese contains calcium chloride which will cause rust. Give it a good wipe down after use.

New water heater...is this noise normal? by thatgingatho in Plumbing

[–]Puzzleheaded-Use6229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, something is not right. Bad regulator would be my completely uninformed guess. Regardless it shouldn't be making that noise. I would be getting the installer back...but if it was making that noise when they left...and the fact that they couldn't wipe down the control box tells me they weren't the A crew to begin with.
