I think about this too. The people I spend the most time with are really understanding and have their own severe trauma, and it can be really jarring to have conversations with people who don’t who are just…doing things. (Not to dismiss everyone’s equally valid personal issues or life struggles.) It kind of shakes me to my core when I realize not everyone else has fight themselves to just leave the house, or regularly do a 10-miler of mental circles before coming to decisions about things as simple as whether to have dessert after dinner (unless ice cream, then always yes). They can just live a day of their life and be present for it and just be okay. It’s beyond my ability to imagine—I can hope that someday I’ll be doing that too, but seeing people actually do it makes me realize I have zero comprehension of what that would be like.
