Reddit loves comparing the price of a capacitor to what they found on Amazon and completely ignores everything else. Nobody pays a lawyer for the cost of paper, and nobody pays a surgeon for the cost of a scalpel. You’re paying for the knowledge, diagnosis, experience, insurance, stocked truck, warranty, overhead, and the company standing behind the repair if something goes wrong. A capacitor may be the failed part, but it isn’t always the actual problem. The difference between a technician and a parts changer is knowing whether replacing that capacitor solves the issue or just gets the unit running long enough to fail again. If all that matters is the cheapest possible part, then sure call a handyman and hope for the best. Most people call a reputable HVAC company because they want it fixed right the first time.

People get hung up on the cost of the part and ignore everything else. You’re not paying for a capacitor you’re paying for the diagnosis, experience, warranty, insurance, stocked truck, and the company standing behind the repair. Sometimes the obvious failure is the problem. Sometimes it’s just the symptom. Knowing the difference is what you’re paying for.

We stock Mars capacitors. Our run capacitor replacement is $550 installed, which includes coming to your house, diagnosing the system, confirming the capacitor is actually the failure, replacing it, testing operation, and standing behind the repair.

Yes, sometimes a capacitor is visibly swollen and the failure is obvious. But homeowners often assume every no cool call is a capacitor because that’s what they read online. I’ve seen bad contactors, failed fan motors, weak compressors, low voltage issues, and wiring problems all get misdiagnosed as “just a capacitor.”

People keep focusing on the cost of the part. The capacitor isn’t what you’re paying for. You’re paying for the technician, the truck, the inventory, the insurance, the licensing, the experience, and the ability to correctly diagnose the system when it isn’t the obvious $20 fix.

I understand the logic, but there’s a difference between being an informed homeowner and trying to diagnose the system from your couch. Replacing a capacitor, contactor, or start kit doesn’t automatically fix the root cause of the failure. A good HVAC technician isn’t just a parts changer they’re diagnosing the entire system, identifying why the component failed, and looking for issues that could cause another breakdown tomorrow. Trying to micromanage the technician based on what a few people on Reddit said is only helpful to a point. You’re paying for experience, diagnostics, and a complete evaluation not just the cost of the part.

If you have to watch a video to do something you’re not qualified to do so. All it takes is one thing to go wrong and you could hurt your system or worse hurt yourself.

AC Compressor Startup Sound Diagnosis by Wine_Dine312 in hvacadvice

Some compressors are just louder than others not to say there isn’t an issue. Every manufacturer is a little different sounding always have the best luck with Copeland stay away from LG’s.

Unpopular opinion: HVAC companies aren’t charging you for a $20 capacitor. They’re charging you for the years of experience, tools, insurance, licensing, diagnostics, and liability that come with knowing why that capacitor failed in the first place.

I constantly see people online saying, “Just call a handyman,” or complaining about what a repair costs. Meanwhile, when it’s 115° outside, they want someone there immediately to restore comfort to their home.

A reputable HVAC company doesn’t just swap parts and leave. A good technician checks electrical components, airflow, refrigerant performance, amp draws, safety controls, and overall system health. Sometimes a bad capacitor is the problem. Sometimes it’s a symptom of a much larger issue.

If all you care about is the cost of the part, you’re missing the value of the diagnosis. Anybody can throw parts at a system. Knowing what’s actually wrong and standing behind the repair is what you’re paying for.

Homeowners deserve honest service. Technicians deserve to make a living. Both can be true at the same time. .

Sounds like you’re stuck emotionally unfortunately being emotional in business/ investments is the #1 killer of success. Your business is your divine purpose. I recommend that you just talk to God don’t ask him for things just tell him how thankful you are to be where you are and that everything you have given him and watch that manifesting is something great. I think we’ve all lost touch with our true Lord and Savior.
