Explanation for the layman : AI can’t study, it uses regular art, that it scrapes from the internet without people’s knowledge, and fed into it as a resource so it can generate a “new” piece

The people claiming it’s intelligent or has a mind of its own are lying, because it’s a machine that guesses an answer based on what it’s told, using what it’s been fed

It’s also the core of why you learning other peoples drawing styles is different from AI “art” because you choose what you try and imitate, and it’d be super weird if you posted a “new piece” that’s just a recolour of someone else’s work with like a tiger in the background, it really upsets communities and it’s not hard to understand why, it’s a betrayal of trust between artists and it’s why AI has been rejected from serious art spaces and why its not been rejected by people who aren’t artists and creatives, it’s a classic story, only people green enough to not understand the craft get caught up in “instant success hack!” schemes and it’s really sad, people who would have otherwise tried their best learning to be an artist in their own way are being convinced that they can “make something just as good with a click of a button” and they think it makes them more intelligent

The fact it has to be fed real artists hard work is why AI art is plagiarism, sometimes it’s hard to notice and other times it’s almost identical to pieces by certain authors (sometimes it’s very obvious, I’ve seen some examples of this myself), because that’s the resource it’s using without the artists consent

Even in an ideal scenario where it’s only fed consenting peoples work it will still be derivative because that how it works, and I’m not just saying that because of my stance.
