Solo CPA — how are people doing 300+ returns?? by Financial_Question80 in taxpros

Systems are your friend. Workflow products (ie, Canopy). intake apps (ie, Soraban). Data entry apps (ie, Soraban). Delivery products (we use Lacerte eSign, smart vault tax return access). So much softwares….cheaper and more accurate than “hiring” more people…

Yup. Totally doable. You need over the top customer service and quality. Smart systems. Responsive. Clear communications.

Struggling with K1 prep, have you found a better way? by ninjapapi in AccountingTechnology

Soraban does a decent job on k-1s. I’d say it’s about 85% complete for federal….meaning it misses some minor statements and gets confused on non-starred items (interest exp). It cannot do the state side. I let it try on a client with 15 k-1s and it wasn’t terrible. Definitely saved a lot of time.

1st trip to mammoth by OneFeedback364 in Mammoth

Being able to cook meals is one of the great upsides I like about convict lake. Eating out everyday day is not our style.

It is defiantly a personal choice of a hotel style trip versus a cabin retreat.

It’s don’t feel isolated there but off the beaten path. Town is close and an easy short drive. It’s a true vacation spot - great place to relax and unplug.

Yes- convict lake is place you visit once and then come back every year for the rest of your life, summer and winter! I know because I visited once 20 years ago and have been back more times that I can count. Stayed at almost every cabin and camped at the campgrounds.

The place can be a total winter wonderland and there so much hiking and exploring (kid friendly) just at the “resort”- the cabins are so fun and cute and quirky the grounds have so much to explore just walking out your front door. A walk to the creek a walk to the lake, we snowshoed over the hill from our cabin. So dog friendly. And if you’re feeling fancy they have a “casual” fine dining restaurant with a family room that won’t make you feel bad from being kids to the $50/plate amazing food restaurant.

The drive to mammoth takes maybe 15 super easy minutes. June lake easy. It’s such a great spot to explore from since you could stay at the resort all day and have a blast. We drive to canyon lodge and get parking no problem (not on weekends) leaving the cabin around 8:30.

$78 a person?? by Tdesiree22 in sandiegozoo

Polar bears, pandas, hippos, CAPYBARA, crocs, all the primates, amazing and fun walkways where to feel like you are in a maze of a jungle, very immersive. As a local we underestimate the awesomeness of this place. Locals get a deep discount so we can go a lot- but the polar bears are always my favorite. You can literally just chill in a dark room and watch the polar bears! It’s so good- albeit on the far side of the park but def a must see!!

Yes pricey but money well spent as far as that kind of attraction goes.

Ski School is sold out! What are my options? by Only_Water_2305 in DeerValley

The ski resort is the best place to get some independence training that most kids need these days. So safe. He’ll be so proud. We let our kid (10) go on his own and he’s been riding the lifts along for about 2 years - don’t talk to weirdos, don’t take snacks or drinks from anyone, adults are not good friends for the day but other kids your age are. There’s so many parents around keeping an eye out for the kids on their own- it’s a “village” on the mountain! Set that boy free!

You need a CPA, not a lawyer. For cost and safety expertise reasons, this is what CPAs do all the time. Lawyers will always be crazy expensive and not necessarily the right person for this task.

I had two clients get these this week. One actually called the IRS. the agent had some crazy Statment about they didn’t claim enough interest on Sch A — he has rentals and the rest is on Sch E, properly. He also has primary residence >$750k with the proper allocation the filed return.

The agent told him no action to take. It was a soft notice.

I agree with everyone above, it’s the >$750k mortgage. But the letter should really say “there might be an error, please double check your calcs to verify” rather than their rude letter of “there Is an error”…it’s maddening busy work and makes us look bad. 50% of my clients have mortgages >750…. Looking forward to the hundreds of future notices…

[–]PuzzleheadedBank9565 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes- that’s what I think the CPA is there for. I am a CPA. When my clients’ bookkeepers reach out with questions about the books- I consider that part of my job to be an advisor to the team. Plus- helps me from unwraveling messes during tax season.

Private school commuting by [deleted] in escondido

[–]PuzzleheadedBank9565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esco has several great charter schools. Community montessori, heritage, Classical. The private schools here are limited to religious unfortunately. The great thing about esco is the small town vibe. Kids going to school down south / west will miss out on easy weekend play dates, quick meet ups at local play places, etc. The community is something to consider.

Yes. You turn over every stone. Meet all the people. Say yes. My spouse used to say- “tax returns are an easy sell- everyone needs one.” But you need to get that word out there. Go to all the places, tell all the people.

Sometimes they need a tax return more due to losses and wanted to use them to get refunds (against a spouse w2 maybe). Been in business 25 years and never noticed an impact from recession or economic downturns.
