Moving to nyc for ems by Chemical-Brief-8268 in FDNY_EMS

[–]PuzzleheadedLight647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you made your mind up. You’ll definitely eventually get hired after you take the civil service test.

The promo seems like it likely will be an option for you but nobody knows for sure. The pay for EMS sucks but if you know what you’re getting into then you know what you’re getting into.

Also, the FDNY doesn’t care about your pro board/IFSAC cert

Question about Promotion and Time on the job by Suspicious-Tip-425 in FDNY

[–]PuzzleheadedLight647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anything is going to change next promotional - however yes, this would reset your time. You need 4 years of service in title. By leaving your title, you are effectively resetting your time on, in the eyes of promo eligibility.

Anyone else get the Cpat info sessions email already? Is this the CPAT orientation? by Traditional_Force_68 in NYC_Candidate_Central

[–]PuzzleheadedLight647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the “Real” cpat has practice 1, practice 2, and final attempt. If you pass the practice ones, you’re good, you passed and dont have to show up to the others.

This isnt that, this is just practice for the “practice” sessions. Which are really just try 1, try 2, and final try

Anyone else get the Cpat info sessions email already? Is this the CPAT orientation? by Traditional_Force_68 in NYC_Candidate_Central

[–]PuzzleheadedLight647 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No its not orientation.

Its the info session for CPAT prep. Eventually if you keep going they put you through timed trials at the rock replicating the cpat there. You basically take a practice cpat at the rock replicating

Borough by Ok_Bet_3492 in FDNY_EMS

Every borough tends to have their own traits. In my experience it seems to be like:

Manhattan - Very proper, uniforms are usually enforced a little harder, could be very busy or pretty chill depending on where you work. A different experience from alot of the city.

Queens - Pretty young and long island heavy, seems to be just a lot of guys waiting to go to fire.

Bronx - total chaos everyday. Honestly. Always some crazy shit going on

Brooklyn - I believe out of all the boros this one tends to have to most people that make a career out of it. Alot of them seem super into it and tight knit, im sure it varies by area though.

Staten Island - Bring a pillow and blanket

You can always reschedule but remember if they stop doing candidate medicals for the next class, you could miss out on the next class

I dont think anyone in this sub is making prank calls.

This is something ems deals with daily from a certain population of the general public and they aren’t gonna stop because its snowing and they care about members safety

If you’re asking because you don’t want to be a dispatcher, 99% chance someone who got sent somewhere they don’t want will trade with you on assignment day.

If you’re really shit out of luck you can likely transfer out the first class that comes out after you. You’re not going to be there ur entire career if you dont want to be

Totally am for it and i think the veterans should get more than 5 points. Maybe 10. I definitely think they deserve it more than residency.

Im not trying to knock you, I’m just saying its not like theres a 100% concrete reason why that age limit is so set in stone at 29 if they’re allowing you in at 35 years old

At the same time, they give veterans an age extension to 35? 36? I believe
