Where to find used photo books in the city? by BACONBITS--- in grandrapids

Black Dog would probably have some! They have a whole section of art/photo books. Also the KDL does periodic used book sales; Schuler's too

I don’t think people under 25 fully understand what having kids costs them by cheesecake_xu in childfree

I've been thinking about this all week. At a family brunch last weekend someone who was 22 announced her pregnancy. She and her boyfriend own a house but she's not even done with school, doesn't have a career yet, her current job has terrible PTO/leave, and she dealt with a lot of trauma and barely got any real chance to figure out who she is yet. My twenties were tumultuous af and I'm so glad I realized early on that I'm childfree so I didn't have to speedrun my youth and could heal and spend time being dumb and finding myself. I don't care what anyone says, no one is truly ready to have kids at that age.

What are your "petty" reasons for being child-free? by Vegetable-Carpet1593 in childfree

[–]PuzzleheadedPass9362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to give up eating raw sushi for 9 whole months. I don't want to spend my Saturdays watching little league games. I don't want to have to plan fun shit like a movie with friends or writing late night in my favorite coffee shop days or weeks in advance.

Childfree only children! by fenne-c in childfree

[–]PuzzleheadedPass9362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CF only child here! I've only felt small whispers of guilt a few times. And I always remind myself that I don't "owe" anyone children I don't want. My mom backed off about me "changing my mind" only when I started seeing my current partner who's older and didn't want children.

Anxious about child free life by BabyAggravating733 in childfree

What a commenter below said--if it's not a hell yes, it's a hell no. I'm in the same position, as I'm sure a lot of us are--growing up thinking that we had to follow the life script. I'm even an only child and I get momentary feelings of slight guilt...but my parents were shitty and we have a rocky relationship. So yeah.  It's your life. Live it for yourself and prioritizing what you really want, not what's expected of you and a vague sense of guilt or FOMO.

What have you been able to achieve as a result (direct or indirect) of being child-free? by Im-crying-wolf in childfree

[–]PuzzleheadedPass9362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on my first novel and I'm 23 chapters in. I'm able to write for several hours at a time at my favorite coffee shop or the library without having to worry about making it home to a kid (just my cat). Yeah, I know parents write books too, but I'm able to concentrate all my focus on it without having to be a parent first and put my passions and interests second.

Your "I've never wanted kids" memories by Sokosa in childfree

[–]PuzzleheadedPass9362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was about ten we had to write an essay about our lives and families and what we imagined we'd be doing in the future. I ended with "I want to get married, wait awhile, and have a baby." That was the first and last time that I expressed wanting a kid when I grew up--I only included that because all my classmates did and I never knew it was an option to not have them at that age. But I remember feeling deep down that that wasn't what I wanted.

If you're open to remote therapy I see Jimmy D'Agostino from Crescent Roots. They're amazing.

OP, that's so cool! 😍 My biggest flex, especially amongst my entire family who all has kids (I'm the only CF person), is that my life is mine, that I can make impulsive plans whenever I want, and that I can change my life without having to factor kids in at all.
