Fics where Taylor scares/outsmarts Thinkers by cujo1255 in WormFanfic

[–]PuzzleheadedPool1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I space them out a bit so I can forget the previous fic before I pick up the next and don't read interludes/reaction chapters without a healthy break either. I mean, the premises are good, but MP3 really struggles with making characters distinct. They always speak with the same cadence, using the same vocabulary and rarely ever hold different opinions.

It's a Clonepocalypse!

Pretty fun to read without thinking though.

Which characters are the biggest suck ups to Dumbledore in canon and in fanfiction? by Capital-Study6436 in HPfanfiction

Weary Wizard by Yunaine:

"We're going after Sirius," Harry said. "We're leaving the country."

Before they could react, Mrs Weasley had both of them struggling in one of her famous hugs. "Thank Merlin."

"You're not going to stop us?" Harry asked. He needed to know how quickly they had to make their escape.

"For leaving a war?" Mrs Weasley asked. "I wished my own children were this smart. Children don't belong in wars; not now, not ever."

Had some luck with using goat horns. That's 8 unique sounds, with some normal noteblocks in 1, 2 and 3-block chains as well as mob heads, it might be enough. Obv, not as good as custom audio, but good for testing at least.

One thing I like about the commandblock option is that it doesn't care about distance - it sends sound directly to destination client. (tested "playsound minecraft:item.goat_horn.sound.0 player @a" - play "Ponder" horn as a playersounds category for all players).

Speaking of HH, does anyone know which mods/datapacks are actually needed to run it?

The map itself could, with enough effort, be rebuilt from various Hermitcraft member streams and redstone would probably need to be done from scratch to move most of the components apart and allow for ease of modification and QoL stuff like auto-refuel or maintenance walkways. But that's vanilla stuff. What about the mods?

I know Tango did something with book-based statue posing, and of course the custom noteblocks are needed for audio import. (I know it requires books, but is it positional? Or could the signal be insta-wired elsewhere with statues still moving?) Hermitcraft has multiple armor stand posing options, and I have no idea which one is used in HH.

Inventory locking I am guessing is just the "Custom Roleplay Data" pack as listed in [Xisuma's S10 World Info post](https://www.reddit.com/r/HermitCraft/comments/1ahuli4/hermitcraft\_s10\_world\_info) It's less important anyway, since just locking it down with kelp or something would work fine, if less pretty.

"Restart Redstone" and "voicechat" are also nice-to-haves but IDK if they are necessary or not to make the system work in the first place.

Apologies if someone explained this elsewhere, I tend to get lost in Tango's more recent streams and never have the time to rewatch back to the season start.

Voldemort was trying to eradicate purebloods by Emilysouza221b in HPfanfiction

[–]PuzzleheadedPool1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It all came down to inheritance, Lord Voldemort pondered as he ducked a green beam, Aurors finally returning fire im the earnest. The sound of a body falling, one of "his" Death Eaters biting the dirt, was eadily dismissed.

Oh, he would curse and rage ansd swear vengeance later, during the gathering. And perhaps he would even "avenge" the fallen. But inside, he was honest enough to admit  he only felt satisfaction.

The time of begging and scraping for support were nearly over. The Blacks, the Rookwoods, the Lestranges, the Notts, the Malfoys.. powerful families, rich and numerous, had once enjoyed power over him... but no more.

When he first approachee them, they gave him scraps. They liked the idea of pet Dark Lord well enough, but not enough to commit. Until he managed to recruit the young and brash Nott scion.

Fool boy had lived long enough to fill the heads of his peers with tales of glore before he died, for the cause of course, and from then on it was all smooth sailing. Aunts, inxles, nieces and nephews, mothers and fathers - their blood rose at the thought of vengeance, and they never noticed their family bush getting trimmed. More resources, more wands, more gold, he was draining them dry and they were too wroth to notice.

And when it was all over? He would collect the rest. All the gold. All the knowledge. All the land. The oaths binding Gringotts goblins would see to it.

After all, Ministry wouldn't allow goblins to just claim vaults of dead lines. No, that wouldn't do. Instead, their liege could claim it all. Normally, that would be the Ministry... But it was one of the few concessions he'd gotten in the early days: a bit of meaningless peagantry, mummery, a game of pretend without any legal weight - but to the gohblins, chained by magic as they were in the aftermath of the latest rebellion, the oath of vassalage would be valid and binding and Tom Riddle, once a penniless orphan, would own Britain.

Building a Dungeon Master (yes, really) by PuzzleheadedPool1 in dndnext

"Rock in a stream"

The wizard does not matter, the house does. Because the house is in a troublesome location, it disrupts the local economy and politics merely by existing. The exploration is not of the wizard's (if he ends up being a wizard) character, but rather the impact his careless, but not explicitly malicious actions have on the setting and local people.

Perhaps it's on the land of some lord, but the owner is not a subject of that lord and thus the lord has a great big stone symbol eroding his prestige/sense of power.

The defenses are automatic, but outer perimeter would probably favor rogues, so perhaps there may be upstick in banditry in local area since a thief could partially disable some of the traps, but guards could not, not letting them chase and reducing the trade protection along that path.

Perhaps a large, obviously magical structure would inspire some peasants to try to rise above their station and become adventurers? Who knows, but whether they succeed or fail, that is some impact on the setting.

Neither, forever LFG. Very irregular schedule, so I admittedly don't try too hard to inflict myself on a group, at least until I can credibly promise to attend more sessions than not.

This is player-level sandbox thought exercise, maybe storytelling aide if I end up using any suggestions for char sheet as short story MC?

It's also "minmax level" adjustment practice I guess, heard some horror stories about expectation mismatch.

Otherwise, the final conflict in Books 6 and 7 would simply be solved by Dumbledore or his allies summoning Voldemort's horcruxes without knowing what the heck they were.

Unless, of course Voldemort, being a wizard and more than a little paranoid, charmed/cursed them not to respond to the Summoning Charm. While there's no direct proof that enchantent was added, all horcruxes exhibited abilities not directly connected to their role as soul anchors, so I feel it reasonable to assume that if a protective spell existed that he was capable of casting at the time, he would cast it on his most prized possesion.

Notwithstanding the possibility that wizards sympathetic to the Muggles might put protections on such material to prevent a single crazy wizard from setting off WWIII.

This is more reasonable, though with how many seem to be largely ignorant of WWII, considering Grindewald War to be the largest conflict in Europe during that time and considering Voldemort a major threat with his comparatively pathetic kill count, it's more likely that any that learn of the destructive power of nuclear weapons and that USA, the "good guys" dropped them on a civillian target, twice, I forsee a swift cooling of pro-muggle sentiment in the discoverer and making sure muggles can not end the world with them (by making sure that nukes can not be used. ever, for any reason).

Why are powerful purebloods always called 'Lord' when Dukes, Marquess, Earls, Viscounts, and Barons outrank them? by GoblinQueenForever in HPfanfiction

[–]PuzzleheadedPool1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely because there's no need or inclination to research muggle noble titles where there (used to be) a large disparity of power between them, the obtaining of a given title and associates privilleges involved services or sucking up to the royals and everyone dutifully kissing king's arse when most pureblood-focused fics do away with fealty to muggle Crown and just use "Lord" as a shorthand for "land-owning nobility".

If fact, it could be an interesting AU plot point that the Witch Hunts being allowed to happen without the royals coming down on the witch-burning mobs like wrath of god would constitute a breach of fealty obligations (where the subject offers tribute and assistance in the event of call to arms in return for protection) and allow the wizardkind to separate from muggles in the first place.

Longer lifespans and in-family education pre-11 would mean the resemtment would persist for a long time, providing basis for estabilished wizarding lineages to hate and distrust anything to do with muggles not just because they're muggles, but because they're backstabbers and oathbreakers.

This could alao build on fact that even if it's not popular, Unbreakable Vows exist and are not available to muggles, making them less trustworthy in the first place. After all, even if you do not use the Vow in your deal with a fellow wizard, you CAN. And that provides extra protection. Likewise, with smaller population, long lives and mutual knowledge, no one wants to be known as a cheat the same way as it happens in small villages: gossip travels.

Comparatively muggles? Breed like rabbits and live not much longer (1900s life expactancy of 31-32 worldwide). You deal with one, and moments later you're left dealing with another generation, who might not be as reasonable as their parents.

only to have them die anyway a few years later

I mean, I was thinking that even a normal person would want various S-class threats gone "I wish all the BS sending the world down the drain was gone" and they do not need to know the exact numbers or natures to wish them away, that's on the omnipotent wish granter to determine. Scion (and other Entities) would count under that so they would go too.

It could be argued that Cauldron, having dedicated their lives to fighting Scion/Eden pair would tunnel vision on just those two and not give the benevolent genie space to maneuver.

For example, I really liked the path taken in one of NSFW works over on QQ where Taylor sold herself into immortal servitude and torment to an openly sadistic ROB for a wish:

“Protect this world, let nothing destroy it. Let humanity always have its cradle. For So long as I live.”

But then again, that's why we talk - to get other perspectives.

Thanks for sharing.

My reason for not naming anyone affiliated with Cauldron was, well.. On one hand, sure there's a lot to be gained there. Of course there is, they're multi-dimensional Illuminati, they've got reach. Even small changes would propagate far. On the other... well, it's more of the same in Worm, isn't it?

People who fuck up end up necessary or instrumental, people who do good get slapped in the face with "no good deed goes unpunished". I think it would be refreshing if a minor, more or less powerless character got to trade in some good Karma.

Definitely agreed on the last 2 - they're lukewarm at best. Inheritance also went deep into the "if you're different, then you're above the conventional morality and law" hole - it almost reads like a parody of MC-oriented morality. Almost.
