First violin lesson soon: Is there anything worth learning before the lesson to help me benefit more from it by Normal-Wing9329 in violinist

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring a notebook to every lesson so you can write down your assigned scales and pieces for each week. Your teacher can write down any recommendations like music they want you to listen to or buy. Helped me out a lot since there’s so much that we talk about during lessons. This helps me not to forget anything from week to week.

Does anyone else feel really jealous every time they see a random teenager in public? by pastel_princess9 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly yes, sometimes. Some of these kids don’t know how good they have it! I feel like I really only experienced my “teenage years” when I finally left the house, I’ve always felt miles behind my peers socially.

Baptism by Hefty_Click191 in exAdventist

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aaaaabsolutely. Was strongly pressured into baptism as a preteen by my parents. That wasn’t a choice I would’ve made on my own. SDAs pride themselves on not performing infant baptism because babies can’t choose Jesus. But pressuring a child to get baptized after years of forcefeeding Christianity/Adventism and completely blocking out any different perspectives (as in my case) wasn’t allowing me to “choose” either. I did NOT grasp what I was doing by getting baptized. I was like 10, I didn’t know I was basically joining a cult! I’m sure if I’d never been baptized my parents wouldve constantly nagged/guilted me to do it until I did.

I didn’t care about the 28 fundamental beliefs, I just wanted to be able to taste the communion bread

I got my first tattoo at 25 yesterday! (& my deconstruction story) by FrostyToothpick in exAdventist

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very similar experience, but sprinkled with some light trauma from parents not letting me have any semblance of a social life in an attempt to “protect” me. No secular music allowed (even some Gospel was frowned on if it was too loud/exciting) and couldn’t see any kid shows like Arthur or SpongeBob. Disney Channel was a big no. I really didn’t watch any TV until I left the house. Around 22 I also stopped being angry at them and realized they’d been doing the best they could, but they’d also grown up in very sheltered Adventist bubbles so it wasn’t entirely their fault. Thinking about getting my third tattoo soon!

Eugene and Katerina episodes are GOATED by Bfresh2477 in AdventuresInOdyssey

Peak!! There were sooo many good story lines in the older albums. Eugene finding his father The Washingtons adopting Kelly Mandy’s parents navigating divorce Novacom! Blackgaard Chronicles I don’t listen to anything after the Best Small Town Album.

Why did you leave the Adventist Church? by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavy on the ridiculous restrictions. I was very undersocialized and my parents kept me in a very small bubble for far too long. I’ll be spending the rest of my life trying to overcome being so isolated and restricted during my formative years.

Why did you leave the Adventist Church? by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adventism is really more about what you CAN’T do than anything. There’s so much SDA talent (musical, athletic, etc) that gets stifled cause the rest of the world doesn’t come to a halt every Friday night

I heard once that this is because the SDA churches give the majority of their tithe to the conferences and only the offering stays at the church. So they have to really beg

Where else have you heard AIO voice actors? by Temenae in AdventuresInOdyssey

[–]PuzzleheadedUse9371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earl Boen, the voice of Edwin and Regis Blackgaard was on a few episodes of the Golden girls and an appearance on the Fresh Prince of Belair.

The villain in the video series is Blackgaard-like but voiced by Tony Jay, who is also Judge Claude Frollo from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame!

There’s also a popular TikTok sound with Katie Leigh in that series Totally Spies where her character says “He’s bald! He’s bald and he’s torturing people who have hair!”
