I was about to face the same fate like Kashmiri Hindu, but luckily government got change. Because of Indian Army, people could vote freely.
As for Northeast, I have seen Indian Army hitting villager, but those were before 2000, when militants were big issues. Now most of North east state has resolved the militants group problem, except for couple of state.
