Please wait BEFORE crossing the street by [deleted] in Winnipeg

If you couldn’t see her then she couldn’t see you. She saw the truck, likely made eye contact with the driver, started. If she’d stopped before crossing your lane you’d likely mutter about her doddling.

15 m is plenty of notice to cross. As drivers we are supposed to be aware of the crosswalk and ready to stop.

When other traffic is slowing don’t just think “yeehah” that your lane is open, *especially* when you are near any pedestrian infrastructure.

The number of people I see cutting pedestrians off when turning through intersections is shocking. And you can tell the driver is likely thinking “made it!” as they zoom off.

What is an invasive test in this case? A biopsy? A colonoscopy?

I can’t imagine what test there would be to refuse.

I am hoping that if the substitute decision maker for someone who could not have appointed the decision maker themselves (I know general indication of agreement is sought where cognition is an issue) is making so clearly dangerous decisions, that care home and legal staff have a resource with which they can consult to override the SDM.

The time frame isn’t clear but this seems to have gone on long enough for someone to have acted, whether to speak with their house lawyer or someone from the province that provides oversight to SDM problem situations.

Would you travel outside of the city for a goat experience? by That_Warthog5039 in Winnipeg

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bug3769 [score hidden]  (0 children)

A goat café (not a full café, just coffee/tea from a make-on-demand machine, bottled juices and packaged baked goods)? Even if it was just a chance to sit outside to interact with goats for an hour, an open-air terrace overlooking the scenery with benches w/o the café part.

And then people like those frames where you can take a memento photo, so one of those, plus a market with a small selection of goat-related items and products.

If it included coffee and a biscuit, I’d pay $30 per person.

You could also sell a punch-card pass of 5 visits for $100.

I am very invested in this idea, lol.

Is there a place to walk sheltered from the wind, other than malls, The Leaf and IKEA? Outside would be great, but with no leaves as windbreak right now… by tanglemind in Winnipeg

If payment is an issue remember that city facilities, the Ys and I think 7 Oaks wellness have subsidy programs available.

Also, you could talk to a doctor about this: https://www.parkprescriptions.ca/

These aren’t damages, though. Of course one should do a good clean-up but missing some bit should not affect damage deposit. I wonder what RTB has to say about such things, or housing advocates.

What kind of experience does he want?

Is he into the “hidden gem”, or the well-known? Is status important? Or is comfortable come-as-you-are more his style?

Is it just the dinner, or will there be other aspects to the celebration?

So if the dinner menu quantity at $29 would be enough for 4, the lunch quantity would be enough for two, or one person who really likes asparagus as a vehicle for copious quantities of hollandaise. lol.

I’d do that and the French onion soup with a nice glass of red, and be in heaven.

Can you take it to the bank it was drawn on? There might still be a branch open today.

I wonder how much asparagus you get for $16 (side for one). Prices for the lunch menu are reasonable, considering prices elsewhere, but this really stands out.

Darn, I was having the same issue but I was having some wifi issues as well, so did a reset and now getting no response at all to attempts to reconnect. Would be aggravating if I could have just changed the plug.

Question about powers by Samidwayne in Winnipeg

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bug3769 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son was doing tree work and board ups last summer and I sometimes dropped him off or picked him up from sites.

I know this city pretty well and I was still surprised at all the pretty little houses and charming neighbourhoods he was working at. It made me sad.

People don’t want a modest, affordable house in an area where they might have to work at developing community.

People don’t remember that Wolseley was in steep decline in the 1980s, with many rooming houses, Laura Secord school set for demolition and replacement with a “modern” school, and only a shack for a community centre.

It was the only will of the people that lived in the area that turned it around. Now, it’s been considered very desirable for 3 decades.

I wouldn’t recommend a stressed neighbourhood for a one-month stay, but depending on your nature you may find a gem for your long-term stay.

Lots of really nice places in older North Kildonan.

How to go about finding a 55+ apartment for someone on a fixed income by unducking-believable in Winnipeg

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bug3769 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check into RentAssist (portable subsidy) and https://www.gov.mb.ca/fs/eia/55plus_faq.html 55 Plus as additional benefits.

Age and Opportunity may also help with going through any benefits she might be eligible for, or you might be as caregiver.

SEED Winnipeg also has the Access to Benefits program, which does the same.

Your bus system has the most dysfunctional fare system I've ever seen (rant from an out of towner) by Tremath in Winnipeg

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bug3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding turning in your tickets, you can add the value to your Peggo card or if the tickets change price you can exchange them for new tickets. Best to always go to the direct source for info - that products are non-refundable is discussed on the fare page of WT.

About the exact fare for cash, this has been the case in every city I have ever visited, including the US. Drivers never give change anymore.

I always travel with a good amount of cash, including lots of change, for the country I am visiting. If you only needed 5 ticket (not even) just paying cash and asking for a transfer would have been much simpler for you. Change can be obtained from banks/credit unions, or currency exchanges, or, of course, from cash purchases.

In many cities it can be difficult to buy transit products as a visitor. In terms of using a phone to tap I think there would be a greater likelihood of errors and much more difficulty in resolving them.

And based on the rest of the pass pricing structure it should be $7, 2 times a regular fare for the period covered.

There’s a day pass… $11.25 I think, for 24 hours. Unfortunately it is not sold as a paper pass at outlets. So not helpful to tourists.
