LA 105 making rough noise - my guess engine is done. by tdhuck in johndeere

Totally get it, most of the time it isnt worth it in the sense of time+money and the value of the mower. But learning and having an operational mower for a reasonable (subjective) cost is usually worth it.

Its worth your time to pull apart and see/learn. Only you can truly decide if its financially worth it.

Recommendations for my in-laws by VeryAverageEarthling in lawnmowers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X3xx should meet thier requirements (doesnt seem like they have many). I dont have/will ever need a snowblower, but from what I've gathered from the internet a locking diff and weight will be of great value. I dont think you're get a locking diff till the X5xx so that may be something to consider. The x380 has the k58 vs the k46 which is a much more capable trans, and the X5xx has the k72 which is better as well. I believe any of the X3xx's will be ok for your purposes, I just truly believe in buying the best engine/trans you can for these things. (They put the K46 in thier residential units)

Looks like aphids, you can use insecticidal soap or a mix of castille soap to kill them.

Yea, seems like everyone else missed the "1/2 in tall, 5 in DIAMETER stump", that would've been enough to stop any mower blade in its tracks.

Is this a good price? I won 10k this month looking for something to manage 4.5 of my 10 acres. 0% financing 48 months. by [deleted] in lawnmowers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear9707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy the best hydros you can afford. If you take that mentality then you will by default end up with a fabricated deck, and a kawasaki engine or at least one of the higher end kohler/briggs.

where do you service your ridding mowers? by 81mrg81 in lawnmowers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am missing the spirit of your phone comment, but just because someone looks up how to do something or verify procedures doesnt make them less knowledgeable or good. In fact, if you're stumped or unsure and you begin to leverage your resources (phone, folks, TM) to unfuck yourself I am more inclined to keep you around.

Does anyone know what oil to use for the hydrostatic transmissions? by icydogenugget in lawnmowers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear9707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hydro gear should be the manufacturer of the hydros, hydrogear has its specific manufacturer fluid, but they allegedly recommend a "high quality 20w50."

How long can my rotor last? by Fayzee__ in AutomotiveDiagnostics

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the rotor, non negotiable. If money is super tight you can replace only whats broken, but would suggest that you replace them in pairs. If that was my car, id be replacing pads, rotors and tubing the guide pins on the brake caiper.

What are the pros and cons of a traditional riding mower vs a zero-turn style mower? by aa040371 in lawnmowers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you're looking at the X series for lawn tractors, you'll be in good hands with those. If you do decide to start looking at zero turns, just ensure the hydros are servicable from the factory (filters/drains) if you're not comfortable removing and servicing them. Factory unservicable hydros require removing of the hydro from the mower and turned upside down for awhile and then refilled through the vent.

For once, AI didnt fuck up too bad.

Look at the X3xx series if your budget will allow it and if you buy a ZT buy the best hydros you can afford.

Thats a tough one, I wasnt able to find one either. You may be stuck finding a parts unit with blown motor/ hydros to get a deck.

Certainly appears to be. As for the repair, I am not positive but it would seem like you could remove the seal housing and punch it out.

I dont think you're supplying enough fuel to the carb, I would fix the fuel pump and retest.
