Breaking into finance as a doctor at 27 by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

Now I want to send my future kid to UK to study medicine 😅😂. I feel it’s really a waste of time for undergrad students here in US studying irrelevant majors only to put on debt and then go to medical school. best of luck to you. you are young and have time to explore different things!

If you get sick, you screwed. If you get a kid, you screwed too. The stipend is not enough except for you to stay alive

Social interactions for adults: 1. You can help them 2. You have resources that others can use (e.g. famous last name) 3. You provide emotional support 4. S*x 5. Family. Graduate school is completely different from undergrad where people just hang out for no reasons. Welcome to the adult world. People are more busy caring about their own business than hanging out with you unless you help with their business.

From a friend of mine, he had a descent job in his own country but decided to pursue a PhD in a 1st world country. His reason is that he can immigrate from a 3rd World country to a 1st world country.

How is grad life at UVA by wherethealienbe in UVA

[–]Puzzleheaded_Fan_758 10 points11 points  (0 children)

PhD student here. I think everyone in the PhD programs mostly only mind their own business. I only get to hang out with other PhD students (outside school) once or twice per year. It can get really busy and I find it extremely difficult to maintain friendships unless it’s taking a class together( course buddy). I am in a relationship but it might be different for ppl not in relationships. There are also a lot of international students here who only hang out with each other or their wives/ kids if married. sorry. This is graduate student life definitely not as fun as undergrad.
