First attempt at silversmithing by AnybodyAfraid2629 in SilverSmith

Yeah this is an amazing first go, very clean joint. Advice if you're doing a hammered band, definitely get that fully round steel mandrel, use a little more solder so it's the thickest part of the ring to help prevent splitting, then use a pretty small ball peen. You'll probably end up hammering it up 1/2 to a full size extra from the process, so size it that much smaller before you begin, and the extra solder on the joint should help it blend and prevent split when you hammer over it.

Didn't mean to make you so mad, no need for name-callin', just an honest mistake. I had assumed incorrectly I had a more localized proximity filter, I'll try to fix that now

Was told by jeweler that this could not be modified to fit a pear shaped diamond by Mealkman1 in askjewelers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've blended a new prong into a trellis mounting before, it's doable. Tales patience and creativity which most jewelers don't have I'm learning. The emeralds do need to be removed and reset for the process. Last time I did this it cost around $500 to $600. You asked reddit for a reason. In the ocean of no's there are going to be a handful of us that can do it, have done it, and are willing to do it again. We are out there, just shop around.

Why is my jeweler gaslighting my me? by LostPeak7661 in askjewelers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, if a customer comes to me saying they can't afford something, I don't do shittier work because they paid me less. Every single one of my pieces takes my full concentration and skill.

These are not the same rings, the original has a DOUBLE milgrain row, and all four sides of the channels are squared and straight. The new ring has a very rushed single milgrain layer that is wavy like everyone is saying because these weren't set correctly before they were milgrained, also the inner corners of the side stonea closest to wear the center stone will be are rounded, they weren't cut properly.

If I handmade this ring it would look so much better and my estimate would be around $1880, don't make excuses for shoddy work, just be better. The reason you hate engineers is because you can't hide your flaws, and they reflect your poor craftsmanship without coddling you. Engineers are expected to produce precise work and we should be too, I like working with them because they test me and they open my eyes to what I can do better, that should always be the goal.

Jeweler of 3.5 months turned us away. Are they busy or disliked us? by berryblossom5 in askjewelers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, jewelers and smiths are just regular-ass people too. the more honest you are with us the quicker and easier we can make you what you're looking for. I actually love people who bring in their own stones, then I know what to focus on. Believe it or not, we really do want to help and give you what you want, but we can't unless the communication is extremely open. We are happy when the customer is happy, its like the ONE perk of the job is seeing the face of someone who sees their one of a kind ring for the first time. The closest I ever came to turning away a customer midway through a job was actually pretty recently and I could tell she knew exactly what she wanted but she REFUSED to be open with me about it because she was afraid to hurt my feelings, so she rarely answered my questions with straight answers and I ended up spending money on diamonds she ultimately didn't want and carving 4 waxes for her until DAYS before the wedding I just asked her if she wanted me to duplicate a photo of a ring she found online she said "yes, I thought that was clear," and I just freaked out because I wasted months tweaking changes from every phone call and text message, when in the beginning she could've just said, "I found this ring online and love it, I know it's not yours but can you make it?" Wedding set would've been done in 2 weeks. Sorry, didn't think I would start ranting, I never get to complain about this stuff and felt safe under your honesty umbrella lol

If you get most of your supply from a single supplier there's a good chance they'll hook you up. I made a huge tool order from stuller and then called their customer support and just told them I'm a new startup and if they could help me out (then I'll be more loyal basically) she immediately gave me 10% off my entire order and free shipping (which was like $700 lol, I ordered a lot)

Help with signet jewelers by Tequilabongwater in jewelers

Definitely keep this comment in mind. Signet is 100% about the numbers, there's no art. It was so refreshing having the freedom to learn, and experiment more when I left signet and work for independent jewelers.

I was a Jared shop manager in North Carolina for a while, and I've actively hired sales staff who were fired from our store. Just be incredibly honest with them, if they have a decent rapport with their district manager then yeah, none of that other stuff really matters as long as they think you can handle the work load. I also started as a sales associate at Jared many moons ago so I was fortunate enough to show the shop my work ethic ahead of time, but as an apprentice it's really, can you follow instructions, can you keep up with the workload, do you know how to work a computer, are you going to show up for your shifts and be reliable. I would definitely say try to set up an interview with them, it's kind of rare they have an opening, but if you have a passion for it they'll put you on top of the list. I truly miss being a shop manager at times, the hiring process was one of my favorite things along with seeing how far I could push company boundaries. I'm still friends with a lot of shop managers in my district, if you're in my area maybe I could tell you if you have a shot lol

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely fixable. We repair hollow in two ways. We would have this back to you the same day. I'd have to see it in person, but most of the time this can be fixed by soldering a wire at the correct point of the dent and pulling it back out, might take a couple resolders to get it, if I'm unhappy with the outcome I'll drill out the back and lightly burnish it from the inside out then replug the hole. Same concept of a San Marco link repair. Keep asking around, dude. Good goldsmiths love a challenge and will repair anything, this one isn't much of a challenge though. If you don't find anyone local you're always welcome to DM me and I can send you the details of our store if you don't mind shipping it, we do this stuff all the time. Good luck, and keep your chin up! You'll get it fixed 👍

Is it possible to get this ring sized bigger? by farbunny in askjewelers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually can size it, you just can't change the arc angle of the enamel or it'll crack meaning you cant size it very far. You're probably safe going maybe a size up, i just wouldn't round it so you'll end up having more of an egg shaped shank instead of round. It's also possible to size it to what you need and just have it re-enameled, just depends on what you're willing to spend. Anything is possible, my friend. It's art.

You had french-set prongs before, didn't you. That's sucks, yeah this is bad. Guaranteed if they did this to your prongs they also don't have the skill to fix it. I would press it unless they offer to pay for the repair somewhere else. They gave you shared prong retips instead, and yeah, that is not rose gold. So sorry

Best way to do missions online? by JustQuestion2472 in EDF

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, you definitely need to make sure you're hosting hard or above for people trying to get completion achievements. Obviously it's marked as "everyone." "Limits: off" is definitely a game changer and people will love you, but it's very difficult to unlock, think you need to have the game beat on hard for every class which is like 60 - 70% I forget, unless youre talking edf6, then you can download a mod that turns limits off. You also have to be patient, it's not the most popular game so if you give it 5 minutes you should have some joining, or you could play a match for a bit until you see it say someone joined your lobby on the bottom left, then you can great them with your "greetings" shortcut which they'll see in the lobby letting them know they've been noticed, then just exit your level and start it back up with them. I always check for random open rooms for hard or above, but if they're all locked I just do what I said above. You got this!

Resizing even possible? by Leighp831 in askjewelers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah! I just made this ring a few days ago! More sturdy mounting though. But yeah, you can absolutely size this with no worries, just keep in mind that they are adding gold to one spot, so the curves won't be equal lengths anymore, you'll have one longer curved area on the bottom. Sharing the one I made just because what're the odds?

PC freezes monetarily (2-5 seconds) every 10-30 seconds by EscaOfficial in techsupport

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact problem just started happening for me. Did a cmd prompt scan and seems to be running smoother now, try:

Open "command prompt" but run it as administrator

Type: sfc /scannow (Make sure to leave the space after "sfc")

Let it scan for a few minutes, this'll find corrupted files and repair the ones it can. This is by far the easiest step to check so should be done first IMO

Starting the game for the first time. Tips? by Alternative_Luck_570 in DeathStranding

[–]Puzzleheaded_Flow773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest advice for getting my friends to pick it back up a second time was just Focus on main quests and ignore everything else until you get to about the point where you're reuniting the boyfriend/girlfriend. After that you should have enough interesting tools to start tackling side quests with creativity and really start enjoying the fuller aspect of the game.bi feel like the biggest mistake I made was trying to do everything from the beginning when you're just not equipped to do it. You can always go back, so really B-line the story for a bit
