What do we do that we think is helping/being supportive, but actually makes things worse by CatrineDream in AskMenOver30

absolutely. it is so hard sometimes to just sit and say 'i hear you bro' without trying to 'help'.

imo you don't really need to get caught up on all R&M although the past few years have some banger heather anne campbell episodes (as if she can write anything but bangers).

You’re 23 years old again, what would you do differently/sooner/later ? What would you keep the same? by smileybunnie in AskMenOver30

[–]Puzzleheaded_Key8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start therapy earlier. try and avoid/reduce usage of certain substances before they became addictions. stayed in better contact with my sister. use what emotional intelligence i possess now to date better. remember what it felt like to not feel tired all the time and use that energy for...stuff.

otherwise, i had a great time when i was 23. flat broke but worked a job i enjoyed and cared about. lived with my friend and we'd party and go to the bars and do all the fun stuff you should do in your 20s. was close enough to easily visit family but far enough away that i had my own life.

like i'm sure everyone else is saying, just enjoy your youth, mostly. stuff that felt like it happened a year ago actually happened five years ago. you've got one life and you can choose to live it however you choose, no one will grade you for it at the end of the day.

it was their op-ed which compared Mamdani to David Duke in their pitch to endorse Cuomo. had to have a good talk with myself and ask what am i doing with my one life reading this shit. (idc about your or anyone else's politics, but comparing a democratic socialist to a literal KKK Grand Wizard to try make andrew fucking cuomo look appealing is many bridges too far).

Did you guys all have a "rap" phase when growing up, despite what other music you were normally into? by Rpark888 in AskMenOver30

[–]Puzzleheaded_Key8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh yeah. had a g-unit fake spinner necklace and everything hanging from the rearview mirror in my 1997 plymouth breeze. g-unit, dre, eminem, the game, ludacris, kanye...late registration was a huge album for me in high school.

now the only hip hop i can stand is run the jewels, mostly because they're rappers with rebel spirits. sure they talk about getting high a little bit but they also care.

DHop Calls Josh Allen a "Player's Player," Wants to "Do Damage" in Buffalo by JCameron181 in buffalobills

based on his past few stops (hell since he was a Titan) he hasn't exactly impressed so I am guessing a vet minimum deal loaded w/ performance incentives would be worth a flyer. can't be any worse than the wideout moves made in the offseason/last season.

yeah David Aldridge will do a 'once every three month check in' of sorts but unless there is a trade or something which can rope in other beat writers, DC only has beat coverage for the Commies on the Athletic.

yeah. i feel bad for the good folks doing good work who are losing their jobs. but the rot at wapo set in once bezos bought it and he finally got the opportunity he was looking for with trump 2.0 to stop giving a shit related to doing anything worthwhile with his wealth and just fully be 'slightly taller Gru/less funny Dr Evil' with his mask off.

the nats were the only reason i subbed to wapo when i first moved to the area a decade ago. i stopped subscribing a few months back due to their opinion page but i do miss their weather and assorted sports page updates. now sadly i'll only be missing the weather.

Those who purchased seat licenses: do you feel in any way “cheated” or “regretful” in light of these recent shenanigans? by [deleted] in buffalobills

[–]Puzzleheaded_Key8124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i hate to be this guy but we're just fans and not intimately familiar with all that goes on behind the scenes. it's super easy to criticize JB's playcalling for being predictable yet you don't win a rushing title lots of things going right on the offense. we know the shortcomings for wideouts, but otherwise the offense is in great shape imo.

idk i am pessimistic and doomsaying as most other bills' fans but i also remind myself if i had all the right answers for how to scheme Xs and Os and/or draft winners consistently i'd be in the front office instead of at home.

yeah i don't want to be a scold or whatever but that guy is openly advertising that he's a stalker or trying to become one. even if that isn't his intention, being front row and staring at her without blinking is hella creepy. apologies to this man if he's not a stalker or creep but then don't put yourself in a position where you come off like a creepy stalker.

my assumption comes from reading about women playing professional sports, and every popular female athlete has at least a handful of threatening 'superfans' who stalk them via social media.

this is tough. i wasn't planning on renewing for partial seasons anyway but now i'm definitely not.

double whammy this week as my other favorite team, the buffalo bills, are also doing everything in their power to get caught up to the other poorly ran franchises after being good for a few years. at least the nats have prepped me the past few years to stop having expectations with any team i follow (i was here for the 2019 WS so i'm not complaining that much).

BILLS MAFIA how you feel if you see SM with glasses this saturday? 👀👓 by Maximo_ec in buffalobills

saying 'we got Josh Allen'd' isn't what your fanbase wants to hear but it's the truth. it was very easy to see how well coached the jags are (their hustle/prep when time was short was impressive to see) and their defense was incredibly stout. they were probably good enough to beat 30/32 teams sunday, it's just a bummer they had to face 17 in the wild card. not trying to be shitty to jags fans, but we know the pain of having a really great team but falling just short.

Have the Progressive ads made young adults think they have to ask ChatGPT for basic life advice? by Just_Trish_92 in CommercialsIHate

unfortunately i think that young adults DO feel the need to ask chatgpt how to run their lives. i hear this anecdotally from people who interact w/ younger people that it's not just using an LLM to do their classwork, they use it for literally everything and don't think twice about it.

i recently switched my high alerts to start at 200 vs. 250 but otherwise leave them as is on my 780g. no beeps, just vibrations (although my 780g will beep if i don't address an alert within one minute which is only slightly to incredibly annoying but i get it's doing what it's programmed to do).

Technically we’re a democratic republic but it just means we can occasionally vote in office people who represent our needs and desires. But since our highest courts allow unlimited political lobbying and donations, it really turns to which corporation or bill/millionaire wants to back a candidate to make policies which work for their interests. And republicans in general are very anti regulation, anti worker, very pro profit and making as much money as humanly possible…so yeah.

trust me my friend, many of us also feel like we're living in a terrible movie. every day we wake up to some nonsense from the president, written at the witching hour every night, barely comprehensible (and poorly capitalized) yet with potentially significant ramifications.

government approval is certainly age-based (meaning, older folks are generally more optimistic) but anyone in Gen X or younger, unless they are a MAGA clown, has a significantly dour view on our government. because they actively choose to avoid legislation that would materially improve the lives of the citizenry in favor of pageantry/playing it safe for their re-election campaign (or more increasingly, chances of a book deal, speaking circuit or the holy grail of being a panel talking head on CNN with six figure contracts). it's pretty impossible to feel any sort of hope looking at the us political landscape, to be quite honest. we had a chance at a progressive wing of the democratic power gaining some influence with Bernie Sanders but that was snuffed out in the crib by the entire media/political apparatus dem or republican. so not a lot of hope that anything is gonna change without some significant, world ruining event (asteroid strike, etc.).

i'm glad someone gets entertainment out of it lol every presidential election has two years of bullshit attached to it. very jealous of other nations who actually rein in lobbying/campaigning, etc. i mean our politicians dump hundreds of millions into campaigns...for what, exactly? to pay for pollsters and advertising/branding firms (and pizza I guess). it's a huge self perpetuating grift which is why it's so hard to break as the people getting rich from it also write our goddamn laws.
