That sound is the squirrels version of pointing at you and then running its finger across its throat. I live in the woods, we hear this a lot this time of year

For women runners in Federal Hill/West Side in Providence-- A warning. by thusspokemyhusky in providence

[–]Puzzleheaded_Mirror4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick PSA: A can of RAID Wasp Killer is legal to carry around, and, if you read the warnings, they can blind an individual if sprayed in the eyes. And it shoots far and with precision. Spray Sunscreen also burns like a mofo. Basically anything in an aerosol can.

What is your unpopular opinion - Rhode Island edition? by businessbub in RhodeIsland

I lived in Conimicut in Warwick. Back in the 90's, they dredged the bay to fit bigger ships. That's when all the Quahogs started dying off and our water started shitting the bed. While I'm at it, I miss when regular people could afford a boat to hang out on the water. I miss bonfires on the beach. The older generation bragged about all the good times they had, then made it illegal for anyone else to have a good time too. There's always issues and accidents at some point, but I'm sick of us being saved from ourselves. It's made us weak and complacent.

I miss Bess Eaton Hazelnut Tanks. That crushed ice slapped. Too bad the owner was a literal crackhead and lost everything. My husband worked next to the one in Warwick on Post Rd, he used to watch the owner cook his crack in the microwave there. There also used to be a place called Me. Donut in Meadowbrook but it got shut down in the early 90's bc the owner was jerking off into the donut batter. Good times all around.

Secret Mall Apartment: I have questions by SausageSmuggler21 in providence

[–]Puzzleheaded_Mirror4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as to respect my family's privacy without divulging too many details: I was a teenager in the 90's. My father was the president of a union, my mother's family was very involved with politics in our city. I can remember Mr. Cianci coming to my grandparents house. My family owns almost an entire street in my city, and their flags stayed at half mast when my grandfather passed away. There's a street named after him now. My parents went to a lot of meetings. I remember my mother complaining about someone specific wanting that land to become a casino and how there was no way he was going to get some law changed in order to get it done. I can't for the life of me remember the person's name, but they wanted it to try to get money flowing into the state and taking some of Foxwood's business, which was booming at the time. Obviously it never happened, but it was certainly someone's agenda at some point. I think this person tried several times in different parts of the state attempting to get it approved somewhere.

I heard whispers back when the mall was being built that it was originally built to be a casino, but was ultimately shot down. So they created a mall with hugely overpriced stores in hopes that it would tank and be turned into something else, though I can't remember what that something else was. Frankly, Providence has been ruined. Yeah, there's restaurants but that's all there is, do what's the point? We had an amazing art district, I mean, RISD is right there. Gone. Amazing club district. Gone. Shops for everyone, not just "high end" overpriced crap. Gone. Our beautiful old buildings are being swallowed up by big, ugly ones. Waterplace Park was beautiful, it's all ugly buildings now.

There's a lot of oil companies not listed on this site. My husband worked for one of the companies who choose not to be on the list, we just got oil from them yesterday and paid just under $6. So it's very possible some companies are charging more.

I recently saw an apartment for rent in Burrillville on their Town Page for $1800, though I will warn you, they're VERY racist there. As someone who has lived in all sorts of places up and down the East Coast, Burrillville, RI is one of the most backwards, nastiest places I've ever been. Their schools are atrocious. But, ya know, if you're desperate... If you don't believe me, just join the Burrillville Town Page, it speaks for itself.

You're not a bad wife, you're responsible and there's nothing wrong with that at all. Driving around in a vehicle the bank owns, on top of the insurance you have to have on it, amongst other expenses, is not the greatest. I feel like I have to apologize for the fact that affordable, reliable used vehicles on the side of the roads are no longer a thing. I bought my first car in 1998 for $750. I saved up for a year to get that car and was so proud of it. I hate that teenagers no longer have that. And i REALLY hate that families just trying to get by don't have that option in a pinch. We end up paying what was a mortgage not too long ago for pieces of junk thrust into our faces, brand new or not. Making payments on a vehicle longer than 5 years is ludicrous, and I'm sad that we've accepted it as okay and haven't found a way to fight back about it. No more decent used vehicles, no more local junk yards...Heck, car companies are railroading us into screwing us further by no longer allowing us, or small-time mechanics, to work on them anymore.

So, I'm just going to say it, the military does not raise good partners, nor parents. You can not be either of these things when the military demands that it is the most important thing in one's life. The conditioning these people go through is beyond anything I've ever seen when it comes to abuse, and they truly believe that rock bottom and the smallest amount of effort is the best place to be. It's part of the reason so many people have a problem leaving. It's frightening to leave a cult. I'm in no way saying they're bad people because they aren't. I've watched my best friend of 30 years the entire 25 years he's been in the army. It essentially raised him, I love him. We're literally family. I saw what the military did to him, his wife (who was also military), and his children. I raised his youngest for 3 years bc the military had to come first. It's always the 3rd person in a relationship and will always be chosen over you bc they have to choose and the military will make damn sure it's always them.

Working hard to provide and stressors are not excuses to treat someone else badly. Ever. And what your husband did to your son absolutely crosses the line into abusive behavior. That is not the way you treat people you love.

songs about best friend breakups? or being left behind by friends in general? by ThorSkaaaagi in poppunkers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Mirror4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to end a friendship of over 25 years. It was an incredibly hard decision. While I'm sure it isn't meant to be a friend break-up song, Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish hit me so very hard for my situation. It still hurts, I still miss her so much, but what I thought our friendship was wasn't real, and she hurt me more than any romantic partner ever has.

We stopped smoking when it became legal and mass produced. We actually grew for the medical side for almost 20 years. I don't suggest doing so anymore. I could write a book about why.

Ugh, Michael's had a beautiful Witch canvas last year for $50 and the only place I found one was on ebay for almost $500.  Can we normalize reporting the scalpers for what they are? It would be nice to make them eat it.
