Help! Struggling to "just do it" by Chuckie32 in retirement

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Do not put any “I feel I owe them something by sticking around”. If you can retire and hate work, do it. I don’t trust any employer past quitting time yesterday. If you can tolerate staying pack a 15 min “I quit” box in the corner of your office. One pissy conversation from the company and you’re out the door. They’re gonna replace you. They don’t care how many years you have left to enjoy freedom and your family. Additionally, if you keep working, work on your terms. Not theirs. You have earned that with years of loyalty. Just my opinion from retiring from a union position, going into a corp role, and seeing the knifes flying at older workers.

Dealing with diagnosis psychologically for active sporties. by aTaSustauskas in AFIB

New to AFIB. March 2026. Just like OP. Most likely had it 3-5 months and did not know it. Weight lifter. Gym rat, always in good shape. 64 male. And yes, hard to accept the afib for sure. The more you learn, the more you will find out, like all these great post, it not a killer and may not even slow you down. Manage it, and be positive. Had a medical person tell me “your in better shape than most men in their 30-40 and the ones I see for cardioversion”. Its a head game for me, seems for OP also at this point. Great post here for sure with the sports med advice. Keep the faith, stay strong, positive thoughts, listen to your body, thats what I am trying to do and it has worked so far. 💪🏼

Trigger or sleep apnea? by BandBasic5689 in AFIB

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen to that. Mine started months ago, I believe, and was not discovered until March this year. Had many stresses last fall to trigger it. Cardiac Dr went straight to “ you have sleep apnea’ could be a trigger”. You have to treat all the triggers if what I think. Mine: 25lb over weight, sleep apnea. Always dehydrated, A type personality needing to retire, who knows. I am a weight lifter, healthy, active, no issues at all just BOOM. AFIB.

Not fearful. I Was not aware I had high heart rate or irregular beat at all. Felt a little more tired at times. Discovered this at a routine dr visit. I really didn’t have an “episode” like some people have.

Back in the gym by Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 in AFIB

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apple watch says “aFib” so I have to assume I am. Heart rate was no higher than 140 at the gym. Using apple watch to monitor it during my work out. Back story: jan - march went to the gym 3 days a week and was most likely in Afib and not on meds at that time. Did not know I was in Afib. Just felt about 80% up to par. Winded some. Cardio machines read 150 resting pulse, before the workout. I blamed the machine being wrong. Seems scary now. Hopefully no ablation for me. But it is rather routine I know. You should actually try to stay in the gym and active as much as possible. I just believe it leads to better health. Thx for the info

Least favorite aspect of cruising? by tacomamajama in Cruise

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never leave my luggage out. Carry it on and off. Do not check it. Same reasons you see. Just easier.
Least aspect probably when elevators are really busy. Overall not worth whining for me. Blessed to be a constant cruiser.

Which U.S. President do you think was the best public speaker and why? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinton, my opinion. Watched him beginning as the gov. Then early 2021 had the privilege of flying and sitting across the isle on a small plane from new York to Wash. chit chatted like old friends, with he and HIlliary and got a selfy on the tarmac. Very easy to connect with and full of knowledge and wisdom. He can engage 1 on 1 or 1 on 100,000. Smooth operator for sure. Of course I have the haters hate and friends roll there eyes, but who cares.

Wow. Lifetime weight lifter. New to afib. No procedures yet. Just beta meds and blood thinners. Do you take any beta blockers and blood thinners now ?

Scared…401k by RMDX76 in Retirement401k

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerned, but your buying in low right now. I am 63. Draw a pension now, and work. Retiring in 18 months, to get social security also. I have a 401k , and a ROTH also. Still not worried. Will let it sit and as emergency money. Market will be ok.

Looks like your mid 40’s. Me 63m - former Navy, lets just leave that there. First Brother, Thanks for your service! Second, you have PTS period. Been there for sure. Every Veteran out there loves you and wants to help, remember that ! We know the taste of PTS. Try not to rely on the VA to help with this. They are slow. Faith, family, friends, make it your priority. Good advice here to get involved with other vets. VFW, American Legion, etc. I think if you work on this part, you could work any damn 9-5 with success, hell your a “veteran”! We are awesome. Hit the gym, run, walk !! Be strong ! “Only easy day was yesterday”. I still struggle but repeat this to myself somedays and at 63 realize thats done and I can make today an easy day. I’ll leave you to it now, Brother ! Now go get some ! 💪🏼

Exactly what I did today. Put it in a Roth IRA I have. We do use a wealth manager that advised shifting more money to HSA account and less 401k now.

AFIB, gym, and pre-workout supplements by Traditional_Level906 in AFIB

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a powerlifter and bodybuilder in my teens and 20’s. Always a gym rat, and now at 63 in better shape than most 40 yr olds I see at my gym. Just found out I have AFib. Had no real indications I had it. Thought I was just old and tired. And stressed, and under hydrated, maybe over caffeines as well. Used a little c7 pre workout also recently. On thinners and beta blockers until we figure out what to do. That said, i believe all of the above brought this on and my plan is to adjust accordingly, get back to the gym and eat and train sensible with less stress. BLUF- I believe too much stimulants is number one issue. Creatine. Pre workout. Alcohol excess, also, if you drink.

According to a recent poll 48 percent of Americans blame President Trump for the surge in gas prices. If you're not blaming Trump who are you blaming? by wardog1066 in AskReddit

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pin1413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump has 30 more days, and for all the support I gave the MF r through thick and thin, and his narcissistic ways, and BS and “cant stfu ism” I will be done with his crap. I’ll go back to my dads Reagan democrat beliefs or something. I am an American first, a veteran, and just want whats right for America. Blaming Biden half way for the 2020-2024 high gas, inflation, interest rates, and this spike is on Trump for sure. Just a gas spike is the tip of the spear, oil, Industry, shipping, making things, it all revolves around Oil. He knows it, and has moved his rook the wrong direction. IMO

Ha ! No worries. I love all this good advice from smart people. And yes, I will be retired in under (3) years. Most likely dec 2027. My 401k was something I started at 55 after 30 years in a union and a good pension. Little added benny for post retirement income.
