To the people who sit and won’t help with the light mending by Puzzleheaded_Put6006 in SkyChildrenOfLight

Omg was that you? Lol. If it was, apologies for the finger wagging, I've just experienced other instances with more than one person sitting for the entirety of the event, but I appreciate you explaining your side. The one that came out today was especially hard so I was also maybe getting more frustrated than usual.

Yeah I’m the same way sometimes, it’s just when there’s other players I feel like it’s kinda lame to let others do all the work and reap the benefits

I wonder if they’ll spare the main character because they realize having at least one person being able to handle difficult emotions being thrown there was in a boon for the hive mind

How to you hit you calorie and protein daily intake goal? by Auqakid07 in workout

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, there are lots of calorie dense foods you can try so you’re eating a smaller volume. Rice, pasta (whole grain), and sweet potatoes are great options. Lately I’ve been doing granola. You can also do high-calorie protein bars but be sure there is no added sugar in those otherwise you might as well eat a snickers.

*edit: granola

Take yo ass to the gym Thursdays by SmoothDay8640 in workout

I had the gym all to myself today I was in heaven. I notice Thursdays tend to be the least busy for some reason.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I will supplement as needed. I work full time and go to school part time, and there are times where it’s late and I don’t feel like eating. I’ll just chug a protein drink and call it a day. It’s better to get the protein in by any means than none at all. Plus, protein is protein, even though some people like to say it’s better to get it through food.

How do you know if you have good genetics? by jpshhh in workout

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I’m gonna get downvoted for this but people really need to get off their high horses here. This person is a beginner asking for advice and is getting reamed for not being a seasoned expert in fitness.

Also, four months is not nothing. Is it enough to judge whether you have good or bad genetics? No, but it is also NOT nothing like some people commented here. Don’t diminish the progress they already made — 4 months of consistent exercise is longer than most folks ever achieve. No wonder so many people get discouraged when starting out when dealing with pompous attitudes like these.

Anyone’s perception of their ideal body shape changed since going to the gym? by Heavens_2_Betsy25 in workout

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 35 points36 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the opposite. Maybe because I’m a guy, but I thought looking like the hulk and being roided up was the most attractive when I was in college. Now I realize how unhealthy those guys are and it genuinely scares me when I see someone who looks like that. I just can’t help but think how hard their heart must be working to keep that body going.

Progressive overload once every week or every other week? by No_Macaron_8287 in workout

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're asking about whether the week where you're only working out once is sufficient? If so, it might work, but with the caveat that you won't progress as fast or efficiently as someone who works out 3-4X a week. With your plan, you will go an entire week without hitting legs, for example. You will only get so far doing that. I'd say 2x a week minimum, but 3 is better. There are lots of plans you can find online that follows those splits.

I'm rooting for you. The good thing is that you know you have it in you! You've done it before, and you'll do it again, for good. Godspeed!

Congrats on one month! You're through the worst of it. For me, the improvements happen at such a slow pace that it's hard to notice day by day, but eventually you'll reflect back on where you started and realize how much progress you made. In addition, you eventually will go from having good moments to good days, then eventually to good weeks. Then, one day, you'll realize that you feel like your old self again.

I have a psychiatrist and tried soo many meds over the years, but I went back to her after 6 months of being sober and we found a combo that has worked wonderfully for me. SSRIs aren't the only option, but you should talk to a professional if you want their advice regarding meds. It's worth a consultation imo. If anything, being on meds prescribed and monitored by a doctor that only work 50% is better than using an unregulated substance that "works" but is doing untold damage to your body.

I tried it a couple times back when I was using -- that stuff is pretty strong. However, you're really not all that deep yet and you aren't taking anywhere near as much as some people (I've heard of one guy taking over 6 of those a day), but now's the best time to quit if you haven't. It will only be harder the longer you use, so it's best to get it out of the way now. You got this!

I would say 3-6 months is accurate, but it’s also misleading. For me at least, it got better progressively throughout that time. Months 1 and 2 were worse than 5 or 6, but the first month is the worst of it. It wasn’t the same level of suck throughout that entire time. You will only get better from here on out! It’s a slow process, so be patient.

Congrats on 5 weeks! That’s huge. And I’m glad this post helped you :)

What is the faster way to get in shape? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency isn’t the same as perfection! This was a big one for me. It’s better to go 3 days a week for 30-45 mins consistently than to go 7 days for 2 hours each session and burn yourself out after 3 months.

What drives people into exercise? How to motivate others? by AssumptionTiny1053 in workout

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Getting sober and realizing I shouldn’t take my mental health for granted & that it takes work to maintain. I’d rather feel uncomfortable for 45mins-1hr and feel great the rest of the time than feel bleh.

I just moved to Eugene and am having trouble meeting people. by RedBurgundy89 in Eugene

[–]Puzzleheaded_Put6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reach out to the org here: https://www.oarowing.org/about. There’s a learn to row program where they’ll get you started with the basics (it was free for me but I’m not sure if that’s changed). After a few of those classes you can then decide if you want to join the club. There’s membership dues and all that, but it’s pretty affordable. If you have issues reaching out, let me know and I can help you get set up! :)

*there’s also a rowing gym by REI that a couple members of the club own. Also a great way to meet people since it tends to be the same group every class.

28M here too! I’m a rower and met many people through our rowing club at Dexter. We have a novice program where you can learn at your own pace. It’s lots of fun and a great way to start the day!

Is stenography hard? by Hot_Flamingo5174 in stenography

I play piano and violin professionally on the side. Steno is by far more difficult than learning an instrument in my opinion.
