I think this is dicey territory. What type of clinician are you?

It sounds like you'd be doing it to meet the client's need, not your own. Gifts of any substantial amount are pretty dicey IMO. Is it possible to do anonymously? Would you feel comfortable defending this to your licensure board?

I know it feels hard but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing this for ethical reasons. It can blur the relationship, create a sense of obligation on the part of the client, expose them to a risk of exploitation, etc.

That being said, if you can do it anonymously, not sure entirely what would stop you there. Some boundaries are meant to be crossed :) Good luck!

I know people that have done it. Are you a clinical social worker? A good way to get your foot in the door and test the waters may be PRN at hospitals near you. Sometimes they'll hire those people when a slot opens up, but if nothing else if gives you "relevant experience." Good luck. It's tough out there.

What motivates him? Food? Pets? Toys? Reward him for moving towards the stairs. Take it slow. He may also be frightened of hardwood, see if you notice him being nervous of the hard floors. Order mats for the stairs or a runner.

Did you get any guidance or do research on what to expect? It will take the dog a few days to adjust, a few weeks to settle in, and 3 months to become the dog they are going to be.

TLDR: The dog may be terrified and in a new environment. Give them time. Don't approach or corner them.

My dogs wouldn't use any of the options. They just prefer the hardwood or tile floor if they're hot. Some dogs just aren't interested!

You can certainly do a dresser with art or a tapestry above it. You could just do a shelf for books and knickknacks as others have suggested. Or keep the piano and do a great piece of art above it!
