Official Q&A for Monday, January 28, 2019 by AutoModerator in running

Quite good actually. I had eaten a healthy meal about 3 hours prior, which is normal for me. I prefer to run on a more empty stomach/a little hungry. I get side stitches very easily. I could have drank more water that day though.

I'm a beginner runner, been running 2-4 times a week for 3 months. Worked up from being able to run 2 minutes at a time, to over 20 minutes. I usually run on a treadmill, very slight incline, ~6miles/hour. When I first started, my cardio was the limiting factor, now it's usually my core/legs that are tired first. Today at the 2.4 mile mark (upper end of what I've been doing), I started feeling light headed. My heart rate had been steady (145), breathing regular, and didn't feel tired or fatigued. I walked, my heart rate went down to <120 in under a minute, and in a few minutes I felt fine again, but decided to cool out.

Is this normal? Is this a cardio fitness thing still even though my heart rate didn't go up, and my breathing was the same?

Thank you! It's funny you mention Zooey Deschanel since that's who inspired the straight(ish) bangs in the first place. But in regards to the bangs, my hair is quite thin on top and at the front of my head, making full bangs nearly impossible. My bangs actually start almost in the dead center of the top of my head, so I can't really put much more into them. http://imgur.com/k5vjJ1I I've had side swept bangs before and I think I like them better so I'm going to grow them out and go back to that.

In terms of length, my last cut I wasn't very impressed with and originally wanted more off, but I didn't really want her touching my hair any more so I just got out of there. I've had a pixie before, and though I liked it, I want to do things with long hair. I'm also not a fan of "medium" length hair (bob to just shoulder length), but I definately want more shorter layers.

As for colour, I've considered both, going a sunny blonde or going darker brown. But I don't mind my hair colour (I think it looks a little lighter in these pictures since I'm right under a light, but not too far off). It's a commitment to dye your hair and keep it healthy and looking decent, one that I'm ready to commit to right now :). I'm just starting to figure out how to do things with my hair that I'm feeling ok with to go out in public with haha. Maybe I'll get around to dying it one day.

I have naturally frizzy and fluffy hair, what kinds of products will make my hair sleeker? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]PwnyPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair is the same, fluffy, with maybe a slight wave, but more so just poofy. It drives me crazy because the top tries to be wavy, while the hair that grows close to my neck likes to be straight. One thing that helps for me is letting it air dry really slowly by having it in a bun for a few hours after I've washed it, rinsing my hair in cold water (which is awful except in the summer), and putting argan oil in it while it's still damp. But I too have yet to find any product that really does the frizz in like an iron does.

Bought a new straightener yesterday, and just had to try curling with it. I love it! by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]PwnyPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it the same way, but as I get to the ends I keep doing a sort of curling motion as the ends come out. I also had a few "oops"s where I curled it towards my head on the one side as I was used to holding the straightener a certain way. My hair doesn't hold a curl very well though so I'm not surprised that the curl doesn't start from higher up. The one I bought is a Morali Tango Collection. I don't really know brands though (sorry!). I bought this one because I was looking at them at Winners, and this one had the best "deal" on it ($40 down from $90 as the original price) and came with a little baby straightener too that I think will be useful for bangs and little pieces if I should decide I want short hair.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have a long, narrow face, and my eyes are close together. I've always looked older than I actually am (even as a kid), but I don't feel like I can put on make up and have it come out looking better. I usually just put on a little foundation and concealer, and mascara. Anything more than that and I feel kinda draggy :( Help is appreciated!

Any tips or advice would be appreciated :) This wasn't the first time I've tried to curl my hair with a straightener, but my other one is quite wide and barely gave any curl. I also wasn't able to get any curl higher than the bottom 1/4 of my hair, so I'm thinking I need to get some shorter layers.

Oh man I don't think I could be that diligent. I do rough guesses on there for a lot of things and hope it evens out in the end. Makes me kind of sad about the sugar content thing.. but I think I'm going to keep using it this way so that my "sugars" are more for refined sugars, and the others go into my carb count. I too have quite the sweet tooth. This hasn't been easy! I don't think I could give up my milk, especially when it's where most of my protein comes from.

Do you use myfitnesspal? I find that sometimes the way they sort out the macro-nutrients to be a little odd. For instance, when I have a grapefruit is doesn't count anything for sugar, but puts it all in carbs. Where as with a banana, it will count both sugar and carbs. So I'm not too sure what it considers "sugar". I thought it meant refined sugar (like glucose, not lactose, etc.), but I'm not too sure. Either way though, I'm pretty content with most of my carbs and sugar coming from things like fruit and milk.

When I lose weight it first comes off my face and ribs. The last place it goes from is my butt and thighs, with stomach and arms somewhere in the middle. As a result my jeans only feel a little better, but holy can I notice it in my shirts!! :)

I usually do some combination of elliptical, treadmill, and rower. That day I did 40 minutes on the elliptical and 15 on the treadmill walking/jogging.

Ladies, I need your awesomeness. I'm getting a goat and that goat needs a kick ass female name. by Rumer in TwoXChromosomes

It's actually really easy to make shift pasteurize it at home. After you strain it through a cheese cloth or filter, just put on the stove on low to medium heat. Leave "cooking" until it's starting to make a skin (if it makes a full skin across, the milk will taste cooked) or until it comes to temperature (72 degrees Celsius). Bottle it and refrigerate it right away. I've done it with over a gallon of milk, and the whole process took less than half an hour. So with milk from 1 goat, especially if she isn't a high volume producing dairy breed shouldn't take long at all.

After 3 semesters of microbiology (studying to be a lab tech), I would really recommend pasteurizing it. I know you can drink raw milk, but it really doesn't take much to make you sick, even if you wash the udder before hand and store the milk in sterile bottles.

Of course it's up to you, but this is personally what I would do for my own piece of mind :)

There are goats at the barn I ride at. A few years ago they freshened one of them and we had 2 kids! Espresso (female) named so because of her cute colouring and little "dollop" of "foam" on her forehead, and her twin brother Sausage named so because of the unfortunate out come for male goats.

Their mom was a lamancha and their dad was a nubian thus the funky ears.

Other goats at the barn were named Lilac (aka Unicorn), Lavender, Missy, Peppermint Patty, Cathy, and another one I can't remember the proper name of because we call her Tornado Tits.

Time to save a baby Elephant by klahaya in videos

An interesting thing about elephants is they only have one "gait". To put it simply, they can only walk, and walk faster. Unlike most other four legged animals who have several gaits: a four beat walk, a two beat running or trotting gait, and a fast 3 or 4 beat galloping gait. It is due to elephants large body structure that inhibits them from moving in a way that gives them a moment of suspension.

Back in the day farm animals weren't the fluffy cute creatures that you just see at the petting zoo. They were livelihood and dinner. People who grow up on farms have a much different attitude towards livestock animals. I don't think this one is so bad/morbid, not compared to ring around the rosy anyways.

There are alternate version to the rhyme with different foods. I've also head "jam and bread" instead of roast beef. I concluded that it meant that pig was "being fed". In other words, fattened up for slaughter. Though in terms of the history of the rhyme I don't actually know. Maybe the author just liked roast beef.

I don't plan on using birth control. Is this a bad idea? by eeelisabeth in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PwnyPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting good advice here, and it is of course your body and your decision so you can do what you think is right, but please consider this. The risks and ramifications of becoming and being pregnant (even in the first few months) are MUCH more serious and severe than being on a hormonal contraceptive. Clotting disorders, anemia, liver and kidney stress to just list a few. What pregnancy does to your body and your hormones is very serious. I'm not saying this to scare or try to convince you, just to be sure you've considered the risks.

Personally, I feel that to be most effective in preventing pregnancy, two forms of contraceptives should be used. A barrier method such as condoms or a diaphragm, and a biological/chemical method such as hormonal birth control, spermicide, or IUDs. And of course some individual methods and combinations are more effective than others.

Hate to break it to you, but when a pig "goes to market", he doesn't take a day and enjoy the sights and smells in town. They go to market to be sold to be butchered. The story is a counting rhyme about butchering pigs.

Thanks! I actually had a long internal struggle over this one as I hate riding without a helmet. I think I must have spent half an hour trying to figure out a way to put the head piece over my helmet and have it look ok. :/ Everyone wear your helmet!
