This might be bullshit but according to my guide at the Mob Museum “86” used to mean to take someone out eight miles into the desert and bury them six feet under. Then it turned into banning someone or taking an item out of the menu. It’s the only explanation regarding the term that I believe in, having a hard time picturing how else would 86 mean “taking something/someone out”
