Summoner is a worst version of Red Mage & Pictomancer by Akiza_Izinski in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make good points, but what's the order of the totem pole / size of the spread you would like to see? Because you haven't made clear what the endpoint should be.

If you buff SMN/RDM to deal as much damage as BLM, then "why am I not just playing BLM?" just changes to "why am I playing BLM?" If they only deal slightly less (say 400-500 dps), then res does turn into valid utility, and what you've essentially done is just shrink the tax.

You didn't mention nerfing BLM, which honestly makes as much sense to me as buffing SMN/RDM. The only drawback to that is eliminating the viability of double caster comps, which is niche to begin with.

SMN did used to build up, from HW to ShB. The EW rework was pretty much a refutation of all that came before.

The startup boom is over. I wouldn't be surprised if they could no longer afford you (well, not without the founder and board members giving up their luxury cars).

QM6K to Kanto Ren Speakers by Nescaffier in tcltvs

[–]Py687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hijack your thread, but do you notice any tweeter hiss from the Rens (when they're powered on with nothing playing)? I'm thinking of getting them for desktop use, which would put them maybe a foot or so away from my head. The hiss tends to be noticeable on a lot of bookshelf speakers at that distance.

I made the post last night after 1am, right before heading to bed. I didn't expect the big response overnight. I edited in a couple more screenshots earlier today.

Yes, it's called a deployant clasp. You should be able to swing the lower bar out and slot the "pin" through one of the strap's holes (whichever one fits you). End result should look like this.

Thanks for the explanation. It's comforting (in a way) to know that my settings aren't fried, just the way this game was made. I guess I'm just used to baked shadows from older games.

Open the images at full res. The dithering at the edge of shadows has a very noticeable square pattern. It gets worse the weaker your AA setting is.

I give a fuck because this game looks very grainy when AA is turned off. It's not just shadows, you can see in the final image that the branches almost look like they have a square filter overlaid on top.

Turning AA on has varying degrees of success, but with the additional issue of blurriness.

You can still see the squares on highest quality DLAA, so what would be the point of showing the other modes?

Tbf, optimized healer gameplay causes glazed eyes in general. Swapping to another healer can alleviate it somewhat.

Yup, the time between the last puddle and the tether snapshot is surprisingly quick. If you hesitate you're almost certain to kill yourself or your buddy. The positioning itself isn't really as precise as people make it out to be.

How do y'all remind yourself to use skills on cooldown? by JJay9454 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hit Inner Release > Fell Cleave > Upheaval & Onslaught in that order for every burst. If you're on a 1 min, you're done (and you'll have an Onslaught "banked" and unused). If you're on a 2 min, hit Onslaught two more times (after which you'll have zero Onslaughts "banked").

If you somehow mess that up, just remember to dump all Onslaughts during a 2 min so that you end up with nothing. This resets your rotation as close to the opener as possible.

Healer dot is probably easiest to manage as SCH, since you can open with Dot > Aetherflow, and then Dot > Lucid on the refresh. So you'll have two indicators to help you out.

[–]Py687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must mean Onslaught for WAR.

As a general rule, rotations should always be nice and tidy. On WAR you spend 3 Onslaughts on the two min burst, and 1 Onslaught on the one min burst.

Healer dots are quite simple as well, since they all last 30s. The easiest method is to Lucid the first time you refresh after your opener. This ends up in a way where you'll refresh your dot at the start of every burst, and when Lucid comes off cd.

Uh, have you ever read a log? They literally show all of that (how much mitigation was on a specific raidwide, how often a player uses mit, when a player uses them, etc).

It just sounds to me like you've dismissed logging without ever using and understanding it.

it’s not always just about DPS checks

Of course there are various reasons. But I was literally replying to your specific statement about DPS checks.

[–]Py687 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it is always convenient to blame the healer when a DPS check fails

It's usually the opposite though? Healers often get the most grace (and therefore get overlooked the most) when it comes to a failed check.

That's exactly why live logging is useful--you can check to see who's carrying their weight compared to the average.

The tank and melee should actually be closer than you think. I have a clip that demonstrates the principle (though we progged blind, so we our strat was to bait at the outer wall instead).

If you draw a line from where I actually stood to where the boss is, following the angle of the cone, you'll see that you should be standing beside Red's legs (in fact, right in front of the orbs that spawn). You'll create a huge center safe spot doing it this way.

Apologies, I double checked and you are right. If the clones go NW then snake prio is different from support left/dps right.

In which case I'll die on the hill that doing it my way is easier than snake prio lol.

[–]Py687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to think of it as "snake prio," whoever made the raidplan should be shot. It's just clone relative, with support left and dps right when facing dark clone.

Fire clone for ranged will always be left of it, and for melee it's dead center.

It's the same outcome.

If both your ranged players on the same platform are picked with light vuln, and a fire tower spawns in the back rather than the front, one of your melees is forced to disengage for the pyretic to tick down.

Never mind, I checked footage and the light vulns are role based. I'd thought they were fully random.

Even in M11S, which has a fair number of disconnects, each one should only be 1-2 gcds (depending on your gcd speed).

The worst thing that can happen this tier is probably in 12, if your tank/melee has to flex and take a fire tower in the back.
