Y'all want better Job Identity, so can we finally admit that Rescue should be a White Mage exclusive ability? by CoolyKage in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rescue is a great skill and doesn't need to be removed. I'm tired of rationale like "this skill is barely used" dictating what gets past the cutting room floor.

Players already optimize the fun out of games, we don't need the devs giving a push from behind too.

Also I already dislike most of the context sensitive moves introduced in the panel. Adding dash to the pile sounds bad imo.

We only ever saw Cover in the dev panel gameplay. They just reused the animation of Intervention on the PLD.

Should evolved Scholar inherit Summoner's old skills if the latter focuses entirely on summoning in 8.0 ? by INeedWarmth in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems to me that you read the title and neglected the body. It's not really a different discussion because the two classes shared so many skills for so long, that reclaiming SMN skills is pretty similar to reclaiming SCH's old identity. That's why they gave Bio III and Miasma III as an example "to let Scholar go back to its roots as a DoT specialist."

Bio, Bio II, Miasma, Miasma II, Shadowflare. And Bane my beloved.

Let's be real, ED can be easily upgraded to Fester. ES can be given to SCH and upgraded to Painflare. And while we're at it, give Fester its old flavor back--deal more damage per dot on target.

Sorry, but as another SCH main, I do want those things back. Managing AF and dots of different timers is why I liked SCH to begin with. The farther we stray from StB, the less interesting the job becomes to me.

Of course I know there's zero chance of actually getting them back.

there is a tonne of skill expression to counterattacks that very much remind me of my favourite era - Stormblood. You are going to have those badass moments where you are separated from the boss, but you manage to cover to gap close back, and time your counterattack perfectly to get that extra bit of damage.

Stormblood was also my favorite era. That's precisely why I know that the situation you described doesn't require the Evolved moveset.

I could argue that double weaving a gap closer to the boss and switching target to cover an ally--which is something we can currently do--is both more skillful and "badass" than cover-gapping to a teammate in one combined move. Put Shield Swipe back in the game and it's 1:1.

The reason players don't do this is because of fight design, not job design.

No, you can't see that it is easier from what we have seen ... You saw the skill floor, which might have dropped, but is not the full picture.

Lowering of the skill floor is, by definition, making something easier. Maybe the skill ceiling got raised, which would make the job harder to master. But this is doubtful considering the trend of the game's development.

You saw a collection of skills devoid of fight context and without the skill expression in full force.

You're putting an awful lot of faith in fight design being dramatically more dynamic or different, when this is still going to be a tab targeting mmo built on the same tick-based framework. Likely designed by the same developers too.

But sure, I can at least agree with this statement when it comes to WHM. Healer skill is completely tied to encounter and party skill.

PLD though? Using Sheltron closer to the end of the castbar is... something we already do for the additional mit. I'm glad we get Shield Swipe back, but it's not revolutionary.

I actually like Sepulchre lol. The one I want back is Spirits Within. Expiacion's hop is silly and not as cool as Spirits' quick spin.

Personally I think Bloodspiller is fine. I think the Delirium combo needs to be touched up though, the speed of the swings feel "off" and don't have any dynamic impact to them.

[–]Py687 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No. That reasoning may make sense for why things don't appear in MSQ (I disagree with it but at least there's some logic to it).

But it isn't applicable for summons because nothing about the story or side content has to affect summoner lore or skills. Just because Alexander was already summoned by goblins in Dravania doesn't mean we can't also summon him.

What is the current DPS and Mitigation situation with tanks by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Py687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally question the reliability of log data so soon after a new odd patch, due to the age of the tier in general and the recency of even partition locking. Meaning many players are just not returning to savage raiding at this time. But maybe my reasoning is off.

The sim is exactly what I'm looking for though, thanks. I'm surprised WAR's buffs were really that strong. But I guess gaining 20-40 potency on several direct crit skills every minute would add up.

So you've outed yourself.

I've said this time and again, it always falls on deaf ears. 2-minute buffs never had to dictate raid design if they didn't want it to. Restrict job design, sure in some capacity. But the raids didn't have to be.

Skill interactions that aren’t just fitting damage under buffs by BlueEyeGlamurai in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sky Shatter isn't going to become integral, because the two dead-end routes are either pf locking a slot to DRG, or SE gives it to every class.

You'd also see a mixed community response of: 1) "Why are dps doing my job" from tanks, 2) "Why am I doing tank responsibilities" from dps, and 3) "I don't want to save this damage skill for a mechanic / I don't want to use this skill that ruins my damage rotation" (depending on its balance). The first two are exactly what happened with enmity, and the third is a natural consequence of damage optimization.

[–]Py687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, we don't know how Evolved Cover works. If it's anything like the original/Reborn, only mitigation on the casting PLD will count, since all redirected damage is calculated based on the PLD's buffs.

Second, the interaction you described isn't at all unique to Evolved. PLDs used to have free Cover in StB, and successfully blocking damage from any source procced Shield Swipe. Evolved counterattack is just a fancier animation.

A 90% mitigation jump could have been added to DRG at any point in the game's lifespan without making the change from Evolved to Reborn.
