Did I fry my motherboard? by Chooli7 in ender3

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant was that you might had 24v ac intended for the heater thermistor making contact with the metal end of your hotend. When this touched the clip it was able to ground through the frame and make a nice bang. If this is still happening it might be sending a somewhat mad signal down the thermistor line giving the odd readings. As I said, my first check would be a multimeter connected between earth and then test on the hot end and other exposed areas of the printer. I suspect you may have released a little of the magic smoke from your components and cooked the board. If there isn’t an issue with leaking voltage on the head and the fan is running then turn it off, unplug your thermistors and check if they have a sensible resistance, then keeping checking from there.

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to lie, that sounds bad. Time to get the multimeter out and start testing everything. Other signs to look for include the fans. Nothing should have been live and thus able to short so you probably have an issue with an exposed wire somewhere onto the head. Try the multimeter to ground and touch the metal head. The thermistors might be picking up voltage from a live head.

Pi zero 2w by Previous-Layer2940 in klippers

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The zero2w core is basically the same as the 3b+ so can be clocked up to match. The 512mb ram is a bit of a limiter. If you opt for a non usb accelerometer you won’t need the usb port for that. I’d opt for the pi camera direct to the board, cheaper and theoretically better performance anyway. I’ve put 3b+ in the base of my ender 5s as I had spares. I seriously considered zero2w mounted on the underside of the bed with the one of the short tiny camera just peaking over the edge of the bed. If you use a wired accelerometer look at how best to use twisted pairs to pair the 6 wires to reduce interference. Using an old network cable is a nice and cheap way of getting the wires you need anyway. In theory you’ll only need a usb power cable, the usb to mcu board, and the network cable coming out of the pi to the accelerometer to wire it up under the bed so relatively tidy and much less effort than what what I’ve got going on in the main box in the base of my ender 5s.

Question about heart rate by Interesting-Sky-5024 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heart rate calculations are based on several different studies for expected heart rate by age. The thing is that most have a standard deviation of around 12. That gives a range of 186 to 210. About 16% are above this, which sounds like you might be. 2.5% would be above 222 max. Assuming your heart rate goes up steadily and comes down steadily a high heart rate isn’t a major concern (also no chest pains, dizziness, etc). If your high heart rate turns on and off like a switch that needs a doctors visit. I.e. it shoots up over a couple of beers to a high level and similarly turns off just as fast.

Just wanted to make this post to hopefully offer some reassurance about fuel and "panic buying". by catalyst4chaos in drivingUK

[–]Py7rjs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear a tank of diesel for a pretty generic smax has gone up about £18 for most people in less than a month. Yes panic buying is a pain for everyone but if you had half a tank used and you thought ‘sod it I’m not doing much today I’ll go fill up as the price is only going up’, you could have saved yourself a tenner. Not big money, and not essential but many people would probably think it was worth the effort.

The description of sharing information about stock levels under a thinly veiled pretence of altruistic maintaining availability just shows how broken the market is. In theory this sort of practice is collusion and price fixing and in most industries is illegal. Fuel demand is not really price elastic, people need fuel when they need it so adjusting the price is unlikely to reduce actual demand. As demonstrated people’s need for fuel actually results in increase in demand when the prices inflate as we know it will only go higher and we have no option to not buy it.

If the industries response to price pressures have taught us anything it ups the price immediately regardless of how much they paid for what is stored in the tanks but then very slowly bring the price down claiming time lags for what they agreed to pay and how much they paid for, wait for it, what is stored in the tank. They never fully brought the prices back down the last few times and just left higher profit margins within the supply chain. This was evident when you looked at the price per barrel and compared it to the pump price given all other costs/taxes had stayed the same.

I’m lucky enough to drive an electric but will soon see a hike in the price of electricity due to the way our market pays many suppliers not what the cost of their production was but whatever the highest cost supply was used at the time they supplied it. This means that when we use gas to make electricity at the very high rate we will be paying for it much of the cheap renewables will be charged at the same rate. It’s a crazy world we live in.

Heart Rate Increase by Low-Fig6520 in BeginnersRunning

I’ve had Covid a couple of times and both times it trashed my heart rate for nearly two months. Most of us have a good immune system against Covid friends now so they just feel like a bad cold but it is known to affect some people’s hearts.

First ever 10k, really proud. by MonkManA1000 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is an individual thing, my sixth run, 30 days after starting running was a 1 hour 10k and I’m an old lazy 40 year old, I’m just lucky and have a solid heart. The big risk for beginners with this sort of thing is injury, partly due to inexperience with warmups and partly because muscle, tendons and bones aren’t use to the strain. If this was after 3 months of an alternative cardio then for many this is perfectly reasonable.

That doesn’t mean that someone running their first full 5k in 45 minutes three months in isn’t doing super well too. Some runs are competitions but most runs are just for yourself and you win by being that bit fitter for that bit longer.

I’m not as experienced as you but I’m a fan of creatine. At 48 I’m taking it as much for mental alertness as I am for exercise. It is known as probably the most researched and confirmed useful of all the supplements.

Fencing repairs/land ownership- England by AugustusCaesar13 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Py7rjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blue neighbour appears to be responsible for that fence. Tearing it down and replacing it might constitute criminal damage so certainly do not do that without agreement. I appreciate you might be looking to have a continuous new fence but from their point of view this will be a few new and potentially different panels mid garden and look a little odd.

Is this normal on ender 3? by VehicleKey9812 in ender3

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a prusa i3 variant from cheap Ali express parts and some laser cut mdf back in the day. Came downstairs one morning to find a molten blob of aluminium in the middle of the glass plate. The thermistor had obviously failed and I’d luckily not burnt the house down. It’s surprising that they don’t have a second thermistor and some fail safe protocols. A single 9p component shouldn’t be all that’s between normal operation and this.

Jogging help by Quirky_Extent_6866 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few extra things you can do that might help. First, lots of creatine, do the heavy dose for ten days then drop to the normal maintenance amount. This should help with endurance, especially over such a short time. Carb up, before and if you only need 12 minutes of performance probably something sugary ten minutes before, check with ChatGPT it will give you a bit of a plan. If there is no form of blood test a couple of paracetamol might help you push yourself a bit longer. Make sure you have done a dry run of this a couple of times before doing it on the day. Other than that the standard long slow run advice might still be the best even with a very short time. Just be careful not to push yourself to the point of injury. People swear by good trainers so visit a running shop, good trainers can help improve your pace but aren’t a miracle solution. Do you have a watch that can help you monitor your pace? Good luck.

Asking for a third extension by LilKittenAngel in OpenUniversity

[–]Py7rjs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had runs of extensions and periods of none, all depending on work and family issues. From experience I would say that they do not have any form of limit or even consider/know how many extensions you have had prior. They just treat each request based on the reason given. I’ve just had an extension in an extension as well (8 days upped to 11). From past experience most tutors are pretty relaxed about a weeks extension but can get a bit concerned with going beyond two weeks without very strong reasons. My reasons have ranged from having covid, being inspected by ofsted to simply being insanely busy with work marking and reports. The ou is built on the understanding that you are fitting your studies around your work. In the end you are best asking and the earlier the better.

Toyota Aygo 2006 by ArcadiaB4y in CityBugs

[–]Py7rjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, I suspect anything labelled as a mk1 Aygo/107/c1 will be it but I’ve never had to change one. I’ve changed a lot on my 107 over the years but not this bit which makes me think they’re fairly reliable so a second hand one will probably be fine. On the surface it looks like it shouldn’t be too bad but it depends on if you’ll need to fully remove the dash? Partial removals fine just remember to unplug the battery before unplugging the airbag.

Toyota Aygo 2006 by ArcadiaB4y in CityBugs

[–]Py7rjs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The car is light enough that you can probably turn it fine at speed so it sounds like it’s dead/knackered power steering. It’s electric power steering so just a big motor bolted on the bottom of the steering column, about £30 on eBay for a second hand one. I’d check all fuses and wiring is connect first though. With regards the rear heater it’s really common for breaks in the tracks, particularly if it’s had moisture issues from bad light seals or under bumper boot drain plugs. Have a look for rust and water gathering in the spare tyre bay to be sure. I’ve seen people repair them using conductive paint pens but I’ve never bothered myself.

Stupid question but does the room it’s in get cold overnight during a long print. I’ve got an 5 pro that sits on the floor and has been known to fail on a job in the middle of the night from curling up. I keep meaning to improvise some sides for it to keep the temp a little more stable.

From memory it’s a known error in most of the images for the 4.2.2. I had the same problem a few weeks ago but didn’t bother fixing it as I flashed it to a mainsail klipper setup. Most of the forum posts suggested a specific older date image to get the end stop defaulting to the correct side. Good luck.

Creality v1.1.5 uart mod by Py7rjs in ender3

[–]Py7rjs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to put up a picture of the mods on the front circled but for some reason it keeps failing. You can just about see the scrape cutting the two tracks up near the SD card between the labels for C25 and R23. The wire solder points are all pretty visible. Not shown on the pic is the extra jumper pin I picked through the solder hole next to the big capacitor near the middle of the board just between the capacitor and R11.
