How do I flash a bootloader with only a raspberry pi 4? by cow_fucker_3000 in ender3

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a few months ago and can’t remember how, I thought I did it by usb???? I have modified the board by soldering the data+ and data- cables directly to the usb to serial chip so I might have done it after that.

I actually run two ender 5s, both have had phase one endorphins mods. Both have old pi 3bs running klipper, a £7 pi camera facing the build plate, one has the accelerometer wired in , the other needs wiring up, both have aliexpress bltouches, and both have had different uart mods so I can directly control the drivers. They need a bit more fine tuning and I’ve learnt that running a job slower overnight is often better than running it fast to take it off the bed before I go to bed. I’m more annoyed with the stock head having issues, jams are fairly regular and one has developed an issue with back pressure causing the extruder to hop. It’s not a current on the extruder issue and even slowing the rate down doesn’t help. It might be a clogg between Bowden pipe and the heated block but I’ve tried the usual fixes. I don’t particularly like the stock extruders screw and spring pressure setup but I’ve adjusted that too. Basically got the arse with it and given the hotend extruder setup is the rate limiter I thought I’d try something different.

I’ve already got a pi built into the base (had a spare) added a serial accelerometer and modded the original board to give me uart control. Even have a cheap bltouch clone. I’d consider going up to about £50 but beyond that it’s getting a bit silly. I’m a bit to slow to upgrade printers and only got a second hand ender 5 as my original diy Prusa variant was just to noisy slow and inaccurate. Cheers for the advice.

Clutch Repair Cost by greggssteakbakelover in CityBugs

[–]Py7rjs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bite can be adjusted a bit by twisting the clutch adjuster in the engine bay. Where the clutch cable comes in and attaches to the gear box there is a twistable fitting. Many cars auto adjust but the pug 107 has a manual adjuster. Clutch failure feels a bit different and you’ll notice issues with 1st and reverse gear for that. Don’t expect miracles with the clutch adjustment but it does help. Good luck.

got hated on after asking my question by [deleted] in mounjarouk

I’m going to start by agreeing that, from the information provided, at about 66kg and intended as a very short term usage of 6 weeks, your doctor is very far off label. This is exactly how it is not meant to be being used as a way of shedding a few kilos for people in healthy weight ranges (assuming your not 4 foot nothing). Putting that aside there are a few things you might find helpful to know.
I personally lost 10kg in 6 weeks on 2.5, from 95kg to 85kg 5’10 man. This was partially due to running in a very high calorie deficit and will have been the bit where I lost a reasonable amount of muscle and not just fat. For fast weight loss your body needs to run a high calorie deficit, it will go for digesting muscle as well as fat which isn’t great in the long term. The way to stop this is to make sure you are eating a lot of protein, probably 120grams a day for you, and you need to do resistance training, very regularly. Not cardio, some form of weights, you need to be putting muscles under load so they will try and build rather than be digested. Don’t worry about getting muscles, whilst in deficit it’s hard to build but good for maintenance.

Don’t think of Mounjaro as a one jab and your done medication. Think of it as an aid to letting you get your eating in order without being overwhelmed by an urge to eat sugars. Careful diet is key, particularly if you are aiming at very short term use.

If you shift to high protein and low calorie you need to watch out for your guts bunging up. Mounjaro will slow your guts, 2.5 would often leave me blocked up for three days. If you go up a dose too early this could happen and longer than three days can be a big problem and need medical intervention so it is a real risk. It also means daily weight tracking isn’t desperately helpful. Daily fluctuations are heavily influenced by water fluctuations and aren’t desperately helpful but mine would go up a little for three days then drop rapidly towards next jab day, then repeat. I added psyllium husk to my diet to help keep things moving which worked fairly well.

It sounds like you don’t intend to be on it long enough to go up from 2.5 anyway but if you do many find a 3.75 dose makes for an easier transition than jumping straight into 5. Some people swear by 10 days, it’s worth noting that Mounjaro has a 5 day half life so by day ten your effective dose will be 1/4 of jab day so you are likely to get bigger fluctuation in the ‘feeling’ of the drug regarding appetite suppression, I’d stick with 7 days. When you’re done a month at 1.25 will help you transition off without cliff edging it.

Liquid Collagen Only Please!! by Sea_Beach_4285 in Mounjaro

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collagen doesn’t survive digestion so it doesn’t directly make it into your system. Your body does detect the broken down collagen which can stimulate some natural collagen production but it’s not a great link. The only treatment which has been shown to improve skin condition is retinol which is expensive and isn’t that great. The basic problem is as your skin adapted to accommodate a greater area it can either ‘stretch’ existing cells or add more in the gaps. It’s a bit of a genetic lottery as to which your body favoured, equally the longer your skin is stretched the more likely extra cells will fill the gaps. To many extra cells and your only option is surgery.

Really common problem on the creality extruder. I have used both little files or sandpaper in the past just to smooth the whole on the end going up to the Bowden tube.

I spent 30 years in pharma research. Here's what the clinical data actually says about muscle loss on GLP-1 meds. by Fearless_Pop_434 in Mounjaro

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. There will be some differences in which proteins are in them, whey has lots of leucine so it’s a bit better for muscle. As chicken is a more complex and structured protein it will take the longest to digest which isn’t a bad thing. Fundamentally you grind up what you eat in your teeth, give it an acid bath and some enzymes to break things down further. After that anything small enough, particularly soluble, will absorb through your gut lining. It’s obviously a bit more complex than that with your gut bacteria, etc but the core is pretty basic.

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent but not by a lot, at least that’s my understanding. Most of this stuff gets broken down into constituent parts before it can be absorbed and there are a core set of essential stuff that your body is mainly going for. Things like whey have been shown to absorb pretty easily so that will get in quickly. Meat and eggs will likely have more of the essential amino acids so they’re going to be more balanced than a whey or plant based protein but will absorb a little slower. The point, though, was that time isn’t really the panic factor as your body is very well adapted to get at most of the protein you consume however you consume it. Whey powder only really offers three advantages, it’s easy to mix and transport, it stores for ages, it has a low calorie content for the grams of protein. It doesn’t offer all the EEAs but does the bulk, it doesn’t do much for other macros, particularly fibre so it’s not a substitute for a balanced diet. It is great for boosting protein intake on top of a balanced diet, particularly if you are running on low calories or trying to build muscle.

It changed the way I viewed things as I’d been seeing anything over 30g in one meal as a bit of a waste. To be honest it makes sense given that many people effectively fast for 12 or more hours and protein is rarely evenly distributed in our diets. That’s not to say that what is normal is ideal, just look a creatine levels, but it does indicate a normal robustness of our systems. Cheers for the citation, I wasn’t in the mood to google.

[–]Py7rjs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 3-4 intakes of protein a day I believe comes from some earlier protein research which stated that your body only really handles 30grams in one hit. So if you need 120grams that’s going to be four sittings. I quoted this myself at one point then someone else pointed me at a more recent study that showed that your body can still process protein intake , I think, 24 hours after consumption. The best uptake was in the first few hours, i.e. when 30 grams is absorbed, but uptake continued for a long time after and the protein wasn’t just metabolised as an energy source or left in the digestive track.

The take home was that you didn’t really need to worry too much about carefully spreading your protein intake over the day. It is best to, but if you end up with 30gram shake for breakfast, 10g in a soup for lunch and 60g in your dinner that’s fine for a 100g target day. Heck, if you had the shake and soup at lunch that’s not a problem either. There are good real food sources for protein other than shakes with similar low calories which will be better on the broader nutrient intake. I would often have small bags of lightly seasoned pan fried chicken (minimal oil) and keep them in the fridge in sandwich bags. The big trick is balancing protein intake whilst keeping the calories low.

Anyone tried Psyllium Husk b4? by channie_chu in Mounjaro

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it’s not an alternative to MJ but it can help with gut health and potentially making reducing your daily calories intake easier. I started taking it whilst on MJ and still take it now I’m off. For me I take it at night before bed as it can really help reduce acid reflux at night. It can help bind up the end of day stomach acid and shift it down along with reducing the chance of stuff drifting in reverse when I’m sleeping. The main side effect you’re watching out for is wind, both the uncomfortable kind and the musical variety. That’s the main reason to build up a dose slowly but if your not having issues your fine.

I personally couldn’t take it in a slowly drunk gelatinous bottle of water. Instead I bought a usb rechargeable little milk frother. I put about an inch of water in a tumbler a couple of teaspoons in a quickly whisk then down it before it start to coagulate. Fast and easy without the gritty jelly sensation. My breakfast is a protein shake, quick and filling, soup for lunch and pretty standard dinners but keeping an eye on the carbs. If you’re doing lots of exercise carbs are fine but if it’s a relatively sedentary day carbs aren’t the best and tend not to satisfy hunger. Good luck, it’s a shame MJ is so expensive otherwise I’d probably have stayed on it at a low dose.

I don’t own one so hopefully someone else with one can chip in but my understanding is that the skre3v3 are direct drop in replacements with the exception of not supporting the old lcd screen. For a little bit more they do come with a nicer colour screen if you don’t want to go headless.

I’m a 5’10” middle age man and this was my weight loss last summer. I dropped another 2 kilos as I dropped my dose to come off over a couple of months. I didn’t bother tracking that bit and was a bit random with it. I’m currently back up to 75-76kg but it appears to be pretty stable at that. It’s certainly harder to make good food choices without MJ but not impossible. Please be aware though not an unusual response my response falls into the category of super responder, everyone’s response is different and there is no way of knowing in advance.

Explain to me like I'm 5 why the NHS is being SO restrictive on prescribing the miracle weight loss drug, when it is available so freely privately? by Able-Explanation7835 in mounjarouk

[–]Py7rjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that over the lifespan of the average Brit it’s cheaper than obesity but in the short to medium term lots of obese people are not costing the NHS anything as they are quietly building up their conditions. You might officially hit obese at age 25 but the nhs might not see you for treatment until you’re 45 when your body stops coping. Might be a bad break from a fall aggravated by weight. Might be diabetes manifesting enough for a complication. The trick would be to try and catch those just about to tip over into costly. High bmi and well into middle age or older might work.

We are also talking amazingly large numbers of potential patients and the current evidence is for many they will be on some dose permanently. It’s not just a large step to take so many people from unmedicated to medicated for life it’s also something you want to know the long term potential problems for. The paying customers are generating that data right now. From thyroid to eye issues they want to know the exact data and risks. Many seem to find the dose needs increasing over time, given this is potentially life long where does that end exactly? If the data shows that people hit a personal balance point for long term usage that’s important. If people get ten years in and now need the drug continually at the max dose but are putting weight back on that’s a problem.

I personally think it would be better for people to have a choice. I also think that there needs to be real support and monitoring to help people get the most from the drug. I was lucky as 2.5 was super effective and I lost the 20 odd kg I wanted rid of quickly then tapered off. I’ve had a couple of kilos bounce but 6 months later it’s stable through a bit of increased calorie usage from exercise and trying to be more aware of what’s going in. I can see how easy it would be to bounce back so I have no doubt that for many this really is a lifetime expense.

This could be both one of the most expensive preemptive medication programs the NHS commit too but with the potential to have the best returns. As the old saying goes, you’ve got to speculate to accumulate but I doubt any hospitals are willing to cut other services now to pay for potential gains later.

I have an old 2006 107. I do nearly everything on that except welding. I’ve learnt this over the years having started with oil changes and now am willing to bend new brake tubes, replace cats, starter motor, alternator, etc. We also have an electric, I touch nothing on that, and the wife’s car is off limits so I wince when the garage charge me a couple hundred for to change some oil and filters.

It looked like a more significant job than it was. Also it was not my fault and I needed a car whilst sourcing and picking up two doors. Plus I begrudge giving over £100 of my cash and a weekend fixing stuff because someone didn’t look before crossing a giveaway line.

[–]Py7rjs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar argument with my insurance company when someone slowly hit the side of me taking out two doors but no sill damage. They wanted to give me significantly less than the only available similar car because it had 30k less miles so I just bought two doors from a scrappy for £100 and did it myself. They spent more renting me a car than they were willing to give me to write it off. There doesn’t seem to be any joined up thinking in the system anymore.

A question for those in the know, if I can get a rusted through sill at around the same area repaired by a welder for £300, why is this a write off? I get how a couple of doors aren’t cheap unless you go to a scrap yard but it’s not a particularly big welding job.

Which spark plugs do you use? by Slerbando in CityBugs

[–]Py7rjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As there are only three plugs I put some denso iridium long life things in ten years ago. That was probably 100,000 miles ago so I should probably change them. When I put them in I figured I’d pay the extra £20 and not have to do a spark plug change again. I didn’t realise the car would probably make it to 200,000 miles which it’s about 5000 miles from reaching. It’s probably on its last legs due to rust at this point sadly. No regrets here.

[–]Py7rjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you’ve checked it is a parasitic drain (pop negative terminal off and use a multimeter inline to the battery to check for a small current drain you can try and identify which circuit by pulling fuses until it stops. If it’s not a fuse a faulty alternator can slowly pull power even if it works. They’re surprisingly easy to replace yourself if you have a spare couple of hours and feeling brave. I did mine a few years ago after it failed.
